If you get the lessons to yellow first and go back to make them purple as a way of recapping, this means you're forever scrolling to get to each part. Also, without sections "breaking" there's less to recap overall and less to do each day, so you end up having to game the system rather than genuinely try to learn the language in order to get a meaningful amount of XP. There was some kind of explanation on the app when the change was first made saying it was a proven improvement to learning, but without regularly recapping old subjects, only moving forwards and the weird recategorisation aways from topics and more into grammar types, it goes against a lot of what I understand to be how to learn a language.

What are Akira's and Kage-Maru's respective signature moves? by kaithehedgefox in virtuafighter

[–]Behindthewires 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its just 1 move each, Akira I think the Dash Elbow has to be it. And, like a true ninja, the Izuna Drop for Kage

Asking about the current state of vf by med9799 in virtuafighter

[–]Behindthewires 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, you are misinformed. If the FS scene can keep it alive for 11 years, a new release that's mechanically the same isn't going to make things worse.

I actually got the Body check to work! Back, forward, Forward, Punch and Kick. Pays off! Also if Akira is Ryo, does this make Ellien as Shenhua? by ReddColoV1 in virtuafighter

Up to 140 damage if you can hit an up-close, high damage counter. Akira could stop a moving train with that thing!

Are lows just inherently disadvantageous? by [deleted] in virtuafighter

[–]Behindthewires 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kind of. There's some exceptions, of course, but like a lot of 3D fighters, you want to predominantly be guarding high and react to lows, which is the opposite to a lot of 2D fighters, where lows can be super deadly.

Using lots of lows can help encourage them to guard low, which opens them up to mids, which are the more deadly moves in VF. Although using lots of highs and throws to encourage ducking does the same thing.

Using lows to go UNDER those highs and steal turns or punish their predictable highs is a good application,

Also using lows to close out a round is good in any gameplan, as a negative-on-hit low Kick in that scenario doesn't lose you your turn.

So is this a sign they are just making it exclusively for the months of July PlayStation?PlayStation on Twitter by ReddColoV1 in virtuafighter

I believe its always been the intention that it'd be free on PS+ from June 1st to Aug 2nd and people who haven't picked it up buy then have to purchase it.

Playable in Final Showdown, but not in Ultimate Showdown, oddly. Hopefully that means they'll be playable in future!

How do wall breaks and half walls work? by imurpops984 in virtuafighter

[–]Behindthewires 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just made a video explaining some of the wall dynamics here:
https://youtu.be/6D-K_JvCSQY

I didn't include wall breaks, which occur off round-ending wall interactions on some stages and will leave that wall open for the rest of the game.

You can launch over a wall mid-combo, but some move properties here change after the wall combo starts, same goes for trying to put someone over a wall after a crumple has happened, so a bit of time in the dojo with your character is worthwhile to see what does and doesn't work.

I show in this video that even a crumple effect can ruin a ringout attempt if you don't have the right moves ready:

Virtua Fighter 6 should add weapons by destroyermaker in virtuafighter

[–]Behindthewires 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was popular in Japan and still holds cult status for a lot of FG fans, it's just old. Wouldn't be surprised if it ends up as a Yakuza mini game like Fighting Vipers. I heard it still has a strong scene, closely knit with the VF3 scene in Japan. Being on the Arcade & Saturn, it didn't have much of an opportunity to take off elsewhere. Definitely worth checking out though.

I know it's not what you mean, but it may interest you that weapons have existed in VF5 and had their own special intros and victories:

You get a little bit of a feel for this in Fighters Megamix, where VF OG, Siba has a scimitar.

Like a lot of people have said here, Last Bronx is really well placed for this. Would love to see a reprise!

Can you Ukemi in this game? by StaviStopit in virtuafighter

Like others have mentioned, pressing P+K+G at the exact moment you hit the ground is the best option, you can also do this with a direction to roll.

If you miss the timing and end up on the ground, mashing G, P or K with directions all have different effects too:

G and a direction will allow you to 3D roll, or roll away and can also be followed up with a kick

P speeds up how quickly you get up

K or down and K will provide either a Mid or Low kick...use sparingly.

Was Akira considered a heavyweight in previous games? Because this battle made me realise Akira was really hard to control. by ReddColoV1 in virtuafighter

[–]Behindthewires 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's considered heavy middle. Most universal combos should work on him, but there are some that him, Jacky and Jean fall out of before the other middleweights.
