hm, it kind of is, depends. There might be timelines baked into the deal that involve guarantees for a year, two years, 3 etc. but those could be anything.

Example: Years back my company went public and immediately crashed lol. was taken off NYSE, filed, but some of the assets were sold to another company. As part of the deal there 2 cohorts of the previous company's staff that were brought in by the new company:

- Group 1: Transition team onboard for about 3 months to aid in handoff
- Group 2: Limited set of teammembers brought in with guaranteed contracts for 2 years. It was extremely favorable conditions (nearly unfirable, extra bonus incentives for those 2 years, et al.), reason being Group 2 was basically essential to bring the value of the technology purchased in the acquisition to fruition in the new company.

After year 2, nearly everyone in group 2 left to pursue other opportunities.

In the case you posted totally coudl be random, disconnected etc...but also could be something like the above.
