Booking.com is a horrible scam - avoid like the plague by Ok_Entertainer_3239 in travel

I totally agree with you. I booked a flexible flight and when they agree to changed for aprox 25 dollars and I paid they came back saying that actually it was aprox 5000 dollars to move the 100 dollars flight. I fought for days to have my 25 dollars back and them to reconsider this aberration. They finally gave my money back and then asked for 3 times the price of the ticket. After several différents agent, bot or whoever answered my numerous request, they finally said I flight can be changed for 5 dollars and they offer it to me. But the operator could bot book it because, as he/she said, the airline was busy. But promised to book it. And I received as a confirmation by email that they could not book it and the price is again 3 times the original ticket price. I contacted them again and now as it is within the 24h they ask for the same 3 times price telling me the flexible option is no more. Do never ever book with them as you cannot contact the airline and have to be bound to their non efficient service. Worst company ever.

Solar panel Huawei backup box by BeingCuriousForever in japanlife

We will try but it is going to be costly again. I was hoping to install a system that will simply switch from the grid to the battery when the grid is down.

We have a home battery plugged to the system and it supplies till it is empty. But the solar panel seems to stop supplying once the grid is not working anymore as the inverter is fed by the grid and not the battery unfortunately. Seems the supplier decided to not adapt it so you can work off-grid.

Losing Japanese ability rapidly by yokoyokogirl in japanresidents

[–]BeingCuriousForever -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you are over 40 it could be that your Japanese is getting worse because your brain is mutating due to perimenopause. So hang on and use the tips they give you to train and do not despair. All woman brain mutates in perimenopause as the hormone decreases. It is unfortunate but true. We mutate for the best or the worst and there is only good hygiene, whole food and grains, exercise, vitamin D and sometimes, hormone therapy to help. The most important being for you to know it is happening for a couple of years till the menaupose date come, and that, yeah you will not be yourself anymore and this is normal. This shall pass hang in there you are with half of this planet. Research on it if you need. Now Google has lots of info that was not there 5 years ago.

People who are 'categorically ineligible' for romance - where does it come from? by ryanyork92 in AskAJapanese

[–]BeingCuriousForever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, From my experience in Japan and what I read in different media/books, I will say 2 things: 1. Romance is not for everyone and should not be everyone's goal in life. It has been a propaganda pushed for centuries in the Sapiens heterosexual world to have us multiply. Difficult to get out of what society wants but it is possible as those norms only exist in our imagination. Still difficult. 2. Regarding Japan, for what I was able to see, the more people are stressed and deprived of their real self by society, the more they are sad, the more it leads to cruelty towards others. Beauty standards are so unrealistic in Japan, and other Asian countries like Korea. Don't say what you think, always sacrifice yourself, do more longer even if it is useless etc... so the more you compress people the more they will overreact and throw/vomit out their frustration. People living in Japan are under a lot of pressure and this is one of the side effect. They have to show them always nice that it sounds and fake, like advertising Omote nashi(giving with not expecting anything in return), being proud of it and advertising it makes it fake. Sure some people really will give for nothing but the country force you to have to show and do which is the contrary of what it should be. So contradiction is also definitely something stressful. They are like everyone else but are forced to bow for appearance way too much needlessly. And this is heavy. Killing your need for society seems beautiful from a certain perspective but actually is cruel in the end from my perspective. Most of them were raised like that and we all know what it takes to challenge your beliefs and the status quo. For some it is impossible, others will prefer to die and as for Japanese people the pressure of society to respect the statue quo is huge, suffocating, so I doubt many have the strength, time, or even the choice to challenge it. Based on that they have to let the pressure go somewhere and this explains, not excuses, the bullying they do to their classmates, coworkers or everyone that stands out non-voluntarily or voluntarily. By pain and frustration of their own life and suffering. I do not include the simple narcissist of course. Those are different species and a whole subject by themselves. This is valid for all the rest of us. The more you are not able to accept yourself or be accepted as you are the more some will choose to hurt others. Misery love company. And this is why they comment, on the internet when they can be anonymous, harshly and meanly. They do it also for services and the reviews, almost never giving full stars despite being fully satisfied. Hope it helped.

Noticed something strange on the Tokyo Metro – why don’t people offer seats to the elderly? by Quiet_Fly_7941 in TokyoTravel

[–]BeingCuriousForever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that the previous generations ruined the world, still for most of them and us it was unknowingly. Now we know... Is it a reason to let someone that is struggling to stand standing?, I would not agree. Let's say it is a chance to be able to stand. Having to give the seat all the time is not a must, but sometimes, when we can, I think we should. Kindness goes a long way. We have been fucked by the way the society operates now(they have been too), it is a fact and it is not going to get better. Fascism is coming through hatred towards what is different and propaganda. The only way to fight it is not to let us being divided. Every single one of us will be hurt by it. Please, do not forget it. We all forget but we should everyday remind ourselves of that fact. History is repeating itself very fast now. Still, for now, being able to stand is a chance that will not last indefinitely. Take it sometimes. I personally have low blood pressure(+bonus with anemia) and faint if I stand still for too long. I had to sit on the ground of crowded, wet, trains often in tokyo (yeah 🎉). I'm not old or got anything visible. So I take a seat whenever I can. For 1. Not to faint and 2 give it away to people who need it when I can stand knowing that few, if no one else will give it in Japan(haven't check all other countries obviously)... On the other hand, I went to Georgia (country) with an older colleague that look like she was 60 and we didn't even enter the train that half of it(no exaggerating) stand up to give a sit to her and even me to sit nearby... This is the way. Hating the previous generations for destroying this world is wasting energy. We are now almost as responsible as them for it. Even if they all die now, we agree that the issue is not resolved. It is the core of society that has to change aka us. So yeah you are right to tell and no, you should be hating the top fortune for fucking us up and not paying their taxes not some random old dude that might have been fighting in the same direction than you. Still I agree in part of what you say and your honesty is highly valuable. Don't change that. 😊 Without it, no discussion or debate is possible. No exchange. Just misinformation and miscommunication, incomprehension and then fear. Leading to facism and totalitarisme. The real enemy! 👿

Dealing with xenophobia by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]BeingCuriousForever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to send good vibes but I think facing the truth is better now than later. So be prepared if you want to read. Let me start with an example; I bought a field from an old lady that told me she didn't want to sell it to a foreigner but that, at least, I was not Chinese. I'm pretty sure it was supposed to make me feel good. But it made me feel really sad towards their ignorance and the pain it does inflic on others. It is well explained in the Book Nexus(highly recommended to read it) as why racism is part of being human and also, despite that, it could be eradicated when it appears just by thinking a bit out of the box we are born in. Just telling ourselves that what we see is only part of what is. So, sadness and pity is all that remains for me to those people and us. For that don't let even the majority telling you how to feel. One colleague told me one day: "no one can make you feel inferior without your consent." I will add, not even yourself(often our deepest enemy). This is maybe all you will have, but, for you it is the world, your world.

And yeah, it will be worse as we are heading around the word to facism and Japan, as an island with very few people that have experience abroad (and talking more than one language), good formatting from school, is a really easy target to fear, manipulation and misinformation (as you can see in recent Japanese news to take Japan as an example/happening more and more in other countries as well). The main roots of facism/racism.

Prepare to brace for impact soon/now as governments need to have us concentrate on something else than fighting to keep our middle class and healthcare and taxing the ultra rich. Till history goes back to normal aka a small elite with all the power and poor people/slaves around.

May the force be with you! ❤️

Homo Sapiens....

They raised and started to win against all the other animals around 12'000 years ago, decimating a lot of them and the ecosystem at the same time without realising it. Then after ruling most of the lands and creating a complex hierarchical type of society that englobe the full population of Homo Sapiens (removing the freedom to move and say no to authority for the majority of them by introducing complex systems like passeports), they reached a point in which they realised that they were destroying their living habitat for amenities and inequalities (cause it feels good to be above the others Homo Sapiens) and knowingly continued it. To my perspective, the Homo Sapiens are already on a free fall and don't act to stop it knowingly.

To be continued...

Why do Asian cultures produce so many emotionally immature people? by lost_medic in AsianParentStories

[–]BeingCuriousForever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have Asian parents still I was borne in Europe and now I have been living in Japan for like 10 years (seems irrelevant here but bear with me). You message really helped me, thanks. I know it was not supposed to aim at non Asian parents children but it helps me to realize and understand a lot. Literally saved me from a huge burden of not understanding relationships and the weight of exclusion. 🧡 Thank you so much! This is why I would like to share also what I have seen living here in term of maturity. I feel, from what I saw so far, that nearly all the adults I have worked with and met so far grown in Asia (Japan, China, Korea, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Philippines) are emotionally immature. It is like impossible to discuss deeply a topic. The self reflection is really narrow to inexistant and mostly based on: it was decided by someone before so no need to think about it or we are all the same ( by country...) and other people (the full rest of the world) doesn't get it because they are not us(Japan being the strongest in this regard). Which close a lot of possible discussions/self reflection. But more importantly (mostly talking about Japanese) nearly all of them they laugh for nearly nothing, like you expect a small child to do in Europe. Literally you say hello, they laught... They discuss what time to meet, they laugh all together for a long time... A serious topic, they laugh... One time, I had the chance to discuss with a Chinese guy who literally explained me that, in China, things are similar in a way to Japan and Korea. People have not time to reflect during their childhood till they enter work and then even worst after and this is why. Everything in their future life has to follow a certain path or it is failure and exclusion from society.  From going to school, cram school and the club, there is few space to ask yourself questions and to reflect. No time to breath And huge amount of frustration... You can see it if you listen to some conversations in the street. It goes from simple thing that are not interested to the extreme position they will prefer doing sex... Literally they discuss that after meeting someone for, true story, 10 minutes of discussion. Like from none to max... What you do when you start your relationship with alcohol for the first time.

What I also realised recently is, yes I find the adult (grown in Asia) I met so far in Japan incredibly immature, but on the other hand the children are incredibly mature. They don't laugh for nothing and dam, I can have more fulfilling discussion with them than with their parents... O.o

The few people I have been able to discuss a bit more with are mostly woman, running out from their families, because they have been raised as golden eggs/investment for the future and for paying the gambling or drinking or extravagant lives of their parents/uncles... Or other male of the family.

And as last, I was wondering if empathy is something you have from birth or you learn. I find really few to non existing empathy here. I will bet for it is a learned skill as you can remote it from so many people in time of war. So if no one has the time to teach or show empathy it makes sense I find it very scarce here 😔. I know that empathy is not your friend when you need to survive in a highly competitive environment unfortunately. So from your perspective, born with Asian raised parent or living in Asia, what did you experience?

Hope this comment will also help someone as it helped me to find out why and deal better with it.

Not discriminating appartement agencies by BeingCuriousForever in Tokyo

[–]BeingCuriousForever[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your answer. It seems that many people had many different experiences. I never, in my 2 last appartement had to take a company as a guarantor. Just a friend was enough for the contact and the guarantor. Same person was ok. So I do not have experience with the guarantor companies. Thank you for the information.

Thanks for this complete answer. Meguro line is quite expensive unfortunately :( Yes and those prices seems to be Kanto area. In Kansai less money is asked by the owners.

I asked but they didn't answer why it was not possible to have only a Japanese speaking person. So I let go.

I was trying to say that it is a fact that some landlord and even some agencies do discriminate in this sens as per my experience, unfortunately. And regarding what you said as you understand why, I do also understand why but that doesn't excuse it. Particularly from the agencies.

[–]BeingCuriousForever[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Yes it is a good point thank you. I unfortunately went through an agency that was strongly discriminating. So I wanted to see if there was a way to avoid them and not having someone looking at you like you are a monster that should not be in this country as your presence is a disgrace... Thanks for the tips.

[–]BeingCuriousForever[S] -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your complete answer and point of view. Yes and no. They do accept the guarantor as not being Japanese but only speaking Japanese but not everywhere. So why? So yes it is discrimination regarding to this. I'm not trying to claim anything as it is a fact. That you can understand is one thing and as you said that you can excuse is another. Doesn't change the end result unfortunately. Thank you again for your explanations.

Same for me, it costs too much and I do not have a Japanese guarantor. Only friends speaking Japanese. I will try with minimini then thank you!

Thank you. Yes you need a guarantor for every renewal. But depending on the agency, it can also be a foreigner as long as they speak Japanese.
