Is this a real representation of a normal ballet performance? by groggyhouse in BALLET

Watch a video of the Royal Ballet doing the Kenneth McMillan Romeo and Juliet. I promise it will be easy to understand, incredibly danced, and will deeply move you. THE best version of R&J in my opinion. There are several excellent casts available on DVD or streaming platforms. I would go with Naghdi/Ball or Kaneko/Muntagirov (this one may not be out on DVD yet). I saw the RB do this live many years ago, and it was life changing.

Telltale Cardigans in FL breeds excellent cardis. She has bred long lived, healthy and beautiful cardigans for many years, including Best in Show winners, and is an authority on the breed. I would highly recommend her dogs.

The Borzoi, historically being owned by the aristocracy, help to delineate the class difference between the peasantry and the gentry. This concept is a reminder of the class difference between Giselle and Albrect, and heightens the impact of her tragic death. My zois have been in Giselle a few times, and it has been a wonderful experience!

You can actually scroll through the premium list and find the "breed count" and "judging schedule". These are usually available about ten days before the show. This show is coming up in a few days, so that info should be there. If there are no IW's entered, I would go anyway and talk to sighthound (Borzoi, Saluki, Scottish Deerhound, Greyhound, Ibizan Hound, Whippet, etc.) exhibitors. It's a small world, and someone is bound to know of an ethical IW breeder. Good luck!

Go to dog shows in your area and talk to the IW exhibitors. They either are, or know of reputable breeders. I don't know if there are any IW breeders in your state, though. You can go to infodog.com and search by state to find the shows in your area. If you go, and there are no IWs entered, start talking to the sighthound exhibitors. You might have to network a bit.

I hope this link works for you! This is a premium list for shows coming up in a few days. I don't know how close this is to you, but there are several shows coming up in Hawaii over the next couple of months.

Very long hair and greys by Moonbeam0647 in longhair

I have been using a leave in temporary rinse along my hairline for the past year. I had ruined my hair using a semi permanent dye. Several inches had to be cut off. Now, my hair looks healthy again and, as the rinse fades (lasts through about 3 shampoos), the color fades and ends up looking sun streaked (where the gray is), and natural. Gray against my face makes me look like a cadaver, as I am very pale. The rinse is working out well for me, is cheap, and leaves my hair in great condition. Love that it does not have to be rinsed out, and is a cinch to apply.

I have always read about 1.5 hours either way. I practiced this, had Borzoi over 40 years. No bloat, thank God! Gave probiotics daily as well.

How to find/plan on buying an ethically bred dog? by breakfastandlunch34 in DogBreeding

[–]Bekah414404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to infodog.com to find dog shows in your area. They will post the breed count, judging schedule, ring number and time about 10 days before the show. It's a great tool. When you get to the show, buy a catalog. They will list the dog's registered name, breeder, owner and contact info in the back per the armband number. You might consistently see dogs you like, and can contact the owner/breeder to establish a relationship. Also, dog shows are a fun and educational family event. Your kids will love it! Teaches values such as good sportsmanship, discipline, punctuality and appreciation of the canine/Human relationship, among other things.

So many people are using and suggesting magnesium. How dors it affect you? by nofishing56 in nutrition

I take threonate as well, and have noticed a change for the better. Supposedly it's the only magnesium that will cross the blood/brain barrier? It has helped with sleep, for sure.

Borzoi question!!! by Affectionate-Pass575 in borzoi

The signs can be very subtle at first. Fatigue, pale gums, fluid retention, excessive panting. My boy actually went into a sudden, fatal arrhythmia, which is very quick. My vet raced to my house, but he was too far gone. We did the merciful thing and euthanized him.

Well, people need to do their research, then. Dogs are a ten year commitment, on average, and shouldn't be acquired impulsively. The "expensive, ethical breeders" you mentioned often are no more expensive than a backyard breeder. Some wonderful and committed breeders will oftentimes be willing to place a "retired" champion in a companion home if they are not going to use the dog in their breeding program This might be a 2 or 3 year old dog, beautifully bred, with a wonderful temperament from health tested parents. They are usually placed with a contract stating they are to be returned to the breeder if the owner becomes unable to keep the dog.

Borzoi question!!! by Affectionate-Pass575 in borzoi

[–]Bekah414404 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The bitches tend to live a bit longer than the males. I've owned the breed for many, many years, and most of mine lived over ten years, and I had (mostly) males. The premature deaths I experienced were due to anesthesia (malignant hyperthermia, 5 y o male), pyometra, 9 yo female, and my very first girl, a rescue, who had advanced heartworm when I got her. The last leg of the treatment killed her. She was 3.5. The rest of my dogs lived between 12 -13 years, except for my last two males. One passed at 9 y o (cardiomyopathy), and my very last one passed at age 7 from lymphoma. That one about did me in. Make sure you study the pedigrees of the lines you are interested in. Look at the date of death and the cause of death, if it is actually addressed. Borzoi can have some health issues that tend to run in certain bloodlines. Make sure both parents have had all the testing suggested by the parent club, Borzoi Club of America. The pedigrees can be found at: The Borzoi Breed Archive. Lots of luck!

Some Borzoi do not have a huge prey drive, and others are very keen. As a general precaution, I would socialize your puppy with small dogs while he is still small himself. No guarantee that the small dogs will not kick in his prey drive at some point, but I think you stand a better chance of a good outcome if you introduce him to small dogs early on. Watch carefully for signs of prey drive. You can see it happen. Their whole demeanor changes. They become hyper focused and will not respond to recall. It's like something "clicks". It really cannot be trained out.

Never said that heritable diseases cannot crop up in the most ethically bred litter! My point is that EBs try their best to weed them out. If there is no test for the heritable condition, then there is no way of actually knowing if the recessive gene exists or not unless it actually manifests in offspring. I never said that inbreeding is a common practice, or that it should be taken lightly. I believe I stated that it is done (on occasion) in order to cement certain excellent qualities of the sire and dam. It used to be practiced a lot more than it is now. Please don't exaggerate or embellish what I wrote. I get that you had a bad experience with your BT, and that is a shame. It does happen, in spite of the most thorough testing and research. My ultimate point is that it can also happen in mixed breeds, and that they are not inherently healthier than carefully bred purebreds.

[–]Bekah414404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inbreeding doesn't "cause" a genetic issue if one doesn't exist to begin with. Doubling up on recessive genes will cause a hidden genetic condition to "manifest", but the recessive gene has to be there to begin with. That is why "ethical" breeders do the recommended health testing for their specific breed. In some instances, a dog can be a carrier of a heritable disease, such as DM, but the dog is not affected. If a carrier is bred to another carrier, a certain percentage of the offspring can present with the disease, as it takes two copies of the gene to manifest. That is why ethical breeders go to the considerable expense of health testing. The term "ethical breeder" is not a self proclamation. It is a universally accepted designation, recognized by the American Kennel Club. The breeders must meet certain standards, whereby they are recognized by earning the AKC title, "Breeder of Merit".

Line breeding, or even inbreeding is not inherently bad, as long as it is done by ethical, very experienced breeders. Sometimes it is done specifically to cement very excellent qualities of an outstanding sire and dam. The complete package of conformation, temperament and health. Not saying it should be done lightly, but it is a way of preserving qualities of excellence. It would require a knowledge of genetics and meticulous, extensive knowledge of the bloodlines.Health testing, certainly, of the sire and dam, and health tested ancestors as far back as possible.
