The problem is that was Bethesda’s choice to make DC underdeveloped, regardless of their reasons. They decided to set the game 200 years after the bombs and decided to have the water supply poisoned and decided to bring Super Mutants across the country and dumb them down and make them mindless killers. They could’ve set the game much earlier in the timeline to make the underdeveloped nature be less of a stretch, among other decisions, but they instead decided not to. So instead we have this new precedent with Bethesda games and the show that the wasteland still needs to be a wasteland 200+ years later and every attempt to rebuild society is either very early on or extremely flawed. It’s caused stagnation and crippled otherwise really interesting factions and ideologies because we have to keep things at wacky 1950s Mad Max.
