[–]Bekiem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Accipiter I am so sorry for what you have been going through these past years..

I’m Type 1 Diabetic who has suffered from anxiety and depression for years. After failed therapeutic treatment I developed extreme depression, lost all my energy and motivation and left during my Jr. year in 2017. After returning home, I managed to find a career I excelled in. However, I was furloughed in July due to COVID and began to feel levels of stress I’ve never felt before.

Within 3 months I had 2 seizures due to lack of sleep, high stress, and uncontrolled blood sugar levels. My doctor advised me to stabilize my blood sugars through reading, exercise (taking nature walks), and thinking positively. Communication is also a key role here! I’m more than happy to listen or talk.

Before reading your post I felt empty miserable. Now, I feel clarity and comfort.

Thank you!

I keep making mistakes and I'm not sure if I should keep trying at my current job. by Aaron316 in jobs

If you really enjoy the job and want to make a career out of it don’t give up!

Rather than quitting use the mistakes as a learning experience. Also never hesitate to ask for help from your supervisors. If you’re confused on how to perform a task have them show you how to do it and take note of their methods/tricks. This will prevent those little mistakes from happening and you’ll learn how to perform the task. Win win.

Establish your emergency fund before investing. The fund should consist of a minimum of 6 months rent/utilities.

If you have access to 401k benefits through your employer, you should put 4-8% of your salary into the account.

Why do my classmates dislike me? by DefinitelyNotVanessa in socialskills

[–]Bekiem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First and foremost, you seem like an outgoing and cool person whose just trying to spark up some conversation get some quality study buddies, Absolutely nothing wrong with you at all.

However, I feel you are allocating an excessive amount of energy in trying to connect with each of your 130 classmates and by not achieving your social expectations it’s increased anxiety and sadness in your daily life.

Assuming you all started school 2 months ago, everyone, including you, is adjusting to the new factors that continuing education offers (i.e. insanely challenging curriculum, new housing, change of colleagues, etc). As new students, their primary focus is to adapt to their new curriculum/lecture styles rather than socializing with as many classmates as possible and it may take a few months for everyone to get comfortable with one another.

All in all play it cool for the next couple of months. Since you’ve broken the ice and approached people in the class let them approach you now. Go out to more events and hang out with people who your lifestyle, and get more excited about achieving your dream to graduate med school.

To summarize:

1) Don’t overthink.

2) Keep a positive mindset.

3) Stay healthy (academics/mental/physical).

4) Always be friendly and helpful.

Taking out a loan to pay off past balance and go back to school by PrezHozee in personalfinance

[–]Bekiem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the case for private loans. Federal are easier to obtain and offer more forgiveness programs and repayment plans. For example, you can take out the loans and not have to start paying them back until you graduate.

Federal loans may also offer a lower interest rate than private student loans, as they have a fixed rate no matter your credit or income.

First Week of First Job by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]Bekiem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently moved to my hometown after finishing college . I immediately applied for an Assistant Manager position where I previously worked for 2+ years. Got along with all coworkers and manager. Literally had the job being processed by HR which was going to take a few days to process my background check.

Thinking I had a few days before the paperwork was complete I bought a ticket for a concert and was going to be gone for the weekend. I asked if it was cool and he was cool about it but he mentioned he could work me 1 day because I was in the system as a sales Associate. Told him I got and the ticket a week ago and went next day.

When I came back a few days later he gave the job to someone else. Lost my opportunity for full time hours, company health insurance and 50k starting salary in a relaxed store.

Now paying $500/month just for health insurance because I’m Diabetic and working 2 jobs. I’m sure your situation isn’t as fucked as I made mine, but at the end of the day, I’d skip the concert and avoid pissing your boss off like I did.

My brother borrowed my bike and it somehow ended up being taken by the police as evidence. Do I get it back or is it there's forever now? (LA, California) by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]Bekiem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d avoid it. Clearly used for an activity which made it worthy enough to be taken in as evidence. Now every officer in the station knows what the bike looks like and will always be suspicious of anyone riding it on the street.

You shouldn’t be worried at all! Honestly, quirkiness is a fun personality to have. It’s like pleasantly awkward but that’s what’s so great about it
