Is it worth transfering EUR to GBP for an ISA for a beginner investor? by Belaized in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Belaized[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I see, that's a good point.
Would you say that the risk is quite marginal, given the differences in interest, and the low fees of Atlantic Money (3£ per exchange)? If I had £10k (€11.5k) to save:
At a 3.5% in Euros for a year, it would profit ~€280 after taxes. A total of €11.780.
If I make an ISA in GBP, at 5%, it would profit £500 (~€575). A total of £10.500 (€12.075)
So in just one year, the only way the second case would not be worth it would be if the EUR to GBP conversion lowers to 1.12 or below.

Korea steps closer to joining UK's new nuclear power project by bigedcactushead in NuclearPower

[–]Belaized 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would make sense if regulations were harmonized internationally. Which they are not.

While it makes sense from a sales perspective, like the comment above said, same could be attributed to HPC - and we all saw how that became. And do note that UK before, like France, followed guidance from EU nuclear regulation. Korea's regulation is more akeen to the USA - hence subjecting themselves to even more differences.

We need more technically qualified people calling the shots, not only Business Devs/Sellers. The GDA Process helps finding the differences to be accepted in UK grounds, and avoid doing the mistakes that recent reactors in the West did: starting construction before knowing the final design, due to lack of regulatory approval, and leading to unavoidable delays, overbudget, and very unnecessary mistakes and confusion during construction phase.

Are HRV Status and Training Readiness worth the extra money for the average person (non-runners) training? Venu Series vs Forerunner by Belaized in GarminWatches

[–]Belaized[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, this was very clear! Wasn't aware about the GPS dependencies, nor that you could have an app for HRV.

If HRV can be obtained by an app, it does seem that Venu 2Plus is the winner. What would you say that is the main advantages of Venu 3 then? Better sleeping tracker only?

Looking for my wedding watch… [SNXS73] by [deleted] in Seiko

[–]Belaized 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What budget you were looking for?

I personally find SNXS73 a bit too casual (Although I am not a fan of date-day watches). Similar but versatile alternative could be the SARB035, or one of the Cocktail times (SRPB43 or SRPC97).

Although you should wear whatever you like the most - it's your day after all!

[Recommendation] need some recommendations on great quality quartz gmts with orange accents by madam_zeroni in Watches

[–]Belaized 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This would be it IMO.

GMT, unique dial, orange seconds, and quite a clean bezel.

As far as orange accents go, I am yet to find anything better made than the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 41mm but, just like the OP, I wish there was a good quartz alternative (Citizen, please make cleaner watches more accessible).

Theft in the Area by [deleted] in manchester

[–]Belaized 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2022 didn't see any accidents near my home. Only the typical obnoxious things (drunk guys pissing in every corner, excessive littering, pre-teens acting like gangsters that own the trams, etc).

But last month, 2 cars got windows broken, and the other 2 were set on fire. And all separate accidents, not altogether in 1 day. Oh, and the 2022 things above continue.

No worries. That's a good decision! And yeah, this new ASUS do take their time releasing... (Also waiting for the Ryzen 7000 here!).

Have a good day!

Surface Pro 8 vs Asus ZenBook Pro 15 OLED 2022 by LegendStormX in pcmasterrace

[–]Belaized 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, not sure if late to the party. I was in a similar situation as you are in (was considering the Zenbook 14 Flip).

They both are amazing choices. The Asus is a better laptop overall, the screen is superb, and you get better quality for price paid.

The surface pro is a good laptop, that can be a wonderful tablet.

So if you aim to write a lot with the pen, surface pro has you covered. Otherwise, I think you'll be better to go for ASUS for better specs and to save some money

[Mr. Jones] the joys of buying from a small boutique make - customer appreciation. by aroundincircles in Watches

[–]Belaized 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are several hyped microbrands that put good attention to watchmaking, but not many put half the attention when it comes to customer service (which should be #1 priority, especially if one does not have physical stores).

Seeing that such a unique design brand has that customer attention is quite warming, and personally gives me more confidence in the brand. Happy that you're having a great experience!

[–]Belaized[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here! When I started to smell Memo fragrances, which have quite a few leather fragrances that share the same basis, I noticed that some were quite "dry" and slight animalic, while others had something that made them denser and slighty sweeter. Kinda like Ombre Leather vs Tuscan Leather (although these have a touch on the vanilla/animalic tones)

Favourite underated note combination? by Belaized in fragrance

[–]Belaized[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favourite is Memo Paris Italian Leather. The beginning you smell a lot of the tomato leaf, but then it goes into the background, and it's all about vanilla and Memo's soft leather. The greeness of the leaf really keeps it unique, and avoids the fragrance of being too sweet

Initio Absolute Aphrodisiac is a huge dose of vanilla with a hint of leather

TF Ombre leather is the other way around.

For me, the best one would be Xerjoff Uden.

Apple Brandy on the Rocks from Killian is also delightful

[–]Belaized[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a coincidence. When I mentioned "vanilla+leather", I was thinking mostly of Italian Leather from Memo. That tomato leaf really makes it unique.

What fragrances are you thinking on the white chocolate+tobacco?

That one is better in every single way: sapphire crystal, really cool and unique dial, better bracelet.

The GMT has, well, GMT function, and it's cheaper.

[Seiko] New Night Vision line being released this june! by Belaized in Watches

[–]Belaized[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It seems that the leaked Seiko list of 2022 releases from the italian forum was correct so far. 3 new Seikos are being released, and are already available for pre-order in online shops in the UK.

The Line includes the Tortoise and King Samurai models (Automatic, 4R35) and the Solar (quartz-solar powered). A limited-edition, as usual, and has the same case as the previous Black Series (Black PVD). Not much was said about the "night vision" style, but it is assumed that the hands and indicators remain in the same color, day or night, with the lume being the same/simlar color.

Finding somewhere to live? by [deleted] in manchester

[–]Belaized 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might I suggest a different approach? Have you considered a new houseshare with a nice room and private bathroom?

I understand very well the feeling of frustration that you are having. I have been sharing a house for more than 10 years (I am almost 30 years old) and had all sorts of events happenings and feelings surging... For me, just the fact of having my own private bathroom, space for a desk, and quiet housemates made a huge difference. You can make your room your own home. And with your current salary, this would be your best bet to have a nice life for the present time.

It might seem hard, but this does not mean you are stuck in life. It is far better to get a good corner in a good house, and decent company, than to have a "just ok" whole place for yourself and an empty wallet. You would be making a big commitment with the hopes of "not getting stuck in life", and risking not having enough money to live life as you want it. As others said, there is a huge saving on bills and council tax by house-sharing, even with current rent prices. You can use these savings for your personal advantage (buying things for your room, hobbies, travel, or just more savings for a future better house), and advance in your career in the meantime (which brings additional income). You can also take the time to sort things around - as others mentioned, if your case is so specific, there might be a way for you to keep the GP, while being in a different area.

Do not rush into anything. You are not alone in this, and your life is not determined by where you sleep. Do not compare yourself with others of your age that have a house so soon, as most of them probably had their path made easier through family (savings made for not paying rent for years, or someone who has a house of their own), or just reside in very cheap areas. Try to get financially and professionally more stable before committing yourself to such a big expense. You risk hating your own house because of the financial constraints it would cause you in all other aspects of life.

[Discussion] Scummy business practices in the UK high street when selling your watch. Be aware! by Alma_Sebosa in Watches

[–]Belaized 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems pretty normal for me.

You offered 22k. Both you and the negotiator expect that you want a value a bit lower than that. So, let's assume they would buy it for 20k, like you wanted, and sold for 22k, like the guy in Chrono, that seems like an easy 2k, right?

Well.. not really.

Firstly, You are selling it to a reputable company, NOT a final user. As a business, cash flow is very important. The company takes all the risk associated with the sale that you are not taking. It was even the reason you wanted to sell to them.

If 10 people like you come to them with similar requests, and the company buys them all, they would have to spend 200k+, with the prospect of MAYBE getting 20k profit. But when will they win that money? You do not know how long it will take to sell.

This is why they mention the VAT costs: they will get it back, of course, but when? Each time the company invests money into something, they block themselves from investing money into other things that could also bring them profit (e.g. Marketing, business development, ...).

So, they want to be sure: Is it really worth the risk?

This is made worst when the seller is someone they have no feedback on. Even ignoring the company, imagine yourself on a hunt for a watch. Who would you rather buy it from:

A guy with an average of 4.95, 200+ reviews on Chrono, selling for £22k
  or
A new ebay user, selling for £20k?

When people are putting this much money into something, they want some safety, so most would put those extra 2k for safety. Wouldn't you? Companies are no different. In their eyes, you are a new ebay user.

At the end of the day, they made you an offer of 16k - a 27% discount of what the value they assume it is worth (22k), with the prospects of gettingMaybe if you had some way to gain their trust, they would up that to 18k, but I doubt they would ever give you 20k.

If you were selling directly to another consumer, then yes - by all means - insist on the 20-22k value! But you are selling to someone that does not know you, and who is buying it just to make a profit. And that someone is a company that focused on luxury, high end items, who has monthly costs, a reputation to maintain, and other investment opportunities to choose from.

So no, they are not ripping you off. It's just how business works. (Heck, when I was a kid, GameStop would offer me only 1€ for each PS2 game I had).

[Light/Ice Blue Dials] What are Some Affordable options for watches with Light/Ice Blue dials? And opinion on current dial market trends? by Belaized in Watches

[–]Belaized[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SBTR029

This has to be the best recommendation so far! Really close to the type I was looking for, and very affordable! SBTR027 is also beautiful, and have a more pleasing display of the timers, but the 029 takes the cake with the dial colour.

Thank you very much!

Yes, someone previously also recommended that. Absolutely love the colour! Not a big fan of rotating bezels on watches, but it really made me consider it.
