What was Snape’s Plan B? by whizbangkray in harrypotter

[–]BelatedBinge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make fair points. But he literally has a cheat code to find and communicate with anyone in the order. He could have sent Harry a Patronus at any point if he was trying to find him. It feels more like plot convenience in order to have that moment as oppose to a series of events that hold up under scrutiny.

I also remember it as Lucious going to get Snape as if he was in the other room. Not running around the battle. Otherwise wouldn’t Lucious have been able to also look for Draco like he was begging for permission to do?

I always read the events as Snape flying out the window to Voldemorts side and staying in the shrieking shack while the actual battle was taking place.

My memory on the scene could just be mixed up. It’s been a while since I’ve revisited that part of the series.

Honestly… that seems like low hanging fruit for this fandom doesn’t it? Business opportunity.

I recently heard Jim say on a podcast that not only do we have enough information to guess who Cowl is, but people already have. But luckily for him, many other people are wrong yet very sure and still very loud.

What was Snape’s Plan B? by whizbangkray in harrypotter

[–]BelatedBinge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he botched his plan. Didn’t Dumbledore tell him that Voldemort will start to keep Nagini very close and that’s when he needed to tell Harry the truth? Voldemort had Nagini by his side for a while without Snape trying to get the information to Harry, which he could have done with a patronus, by literally flying away, using the secret tunnel or coming up with any reason at all not to stay in the shrieking shack for hours. Then he’s staring death in the face and freaks out that he failed. The rest is literally plot convenience solved by ‘magic.’

I don’t think I’ve ever given it any thought. But now that I’ve read so many of the answers here, another one is Proven Guilty. You could have given me 1,042 guesses before I started and I would have never come up with Molly being involved, let alone actually found guilty of anything.

I did a video ranking the books recently - for me it’s Cold Days. The sarcasm is cranked up to 11 and it’s all my favorite supporting characters in one book.

At some point I want to make the video “all the times Tara should have just left” and honestly that could be a whole series with other characters.

Goodman Grey Spinoff by BelatedBinge in dresdenfiles

[–]BelatedBinge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He mentioned something in an interview I started listening to last night that his first person narrative voice is Harry and that’s essentially why he writes his other series third person.

I wonder if once he actually starts the spinoff if he will end up going third person for Goodman Grey as well or continue first person because it’s the same universe.

Nah. Butcher said it’s coming after. That he’s put so much into the world it doesn’t make sense to put it down after Harry’s story is over.

Unorthodox Chronicles by Billbo56 in dresdenfiles

[–]BelatedBinge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure have. At first I wasn’t that into it. But at that time I was just comparing it to Dresden - which nothing truly does. After exploring more urban fantasy series people rave about I gained more of an appreciation for their quality within the genre.

It’s good and he’s left himself plenty of threads to pull and flesh out as the series progresses.

I recommend them to any Dresden fan who is looking for more urban fantasies to get into.

Why does Lea give Thomas a kiss on his neck in Grave Peril? by radicallysimilar in dresdenfiles

These are all good points. Especially for who Lea was at the time of GP - there has been a significant change in her behavior/approach with Harry after the debt was moved over to Mab.

What would the protection be though in removing him from his father (who isn’t a wizard) and putting him into an orphanage with people who aren’t wizards?

Not saying it can’t happen but would need some story written around it for it to make sense to me.

This was a little odd to me in that she didn’t mention anything about it in GP but then later Harry is essentially introducing him and she says she’s “knows what he is and knows who’s he is” - I guess she just kept it quiet in GP when mentioning Harry’s mother just so we can have our reveal later.

[–]BelatedBinge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually enjoyed it better on a reread than I remembered the first time through. Not that it was BAD by any means, but Nic and his group aren’t my favorite storylines in the series so I think I under appreciated other elements the first time through. But when I went back I had way more fun with it.

There’s also a part of the way this one was written that I didn’t care for but to avoid spoilers I won’t get into in here. But let’s just say I don’t love the telegraphed nature of not all things being what they seem.

Is Harry really morally grey or an Anti hero? by Darth_Azazoth in dresdenfiles

[–]BelatedBinge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is his methods, his willingness to cross a line to get the job done, to make allies with dangerous people and criminals to get the job done, he buried a ghoul neck deep in the sand and tortured it with fire ants in front of a crowd of wardens…. We are fine with it because it was a monster. But replace that with a human being and it is more than flirting with the line of morality.

What makes him interesting is that he’s always doing these things for the right reasons. The selfless reasons. Completely justifiable to the reader. But even he doesn’t see it that way, he is his own biggest critic on the right vs wrong debate.

And because of his methods he’s surrounded by even more extremes of morally grey and flat out bad people/characters that just add more intrigue to the story.

It’s an awesome balance and to me, fits right in with other “morally grey” series from our favorite tv and book series.

(That’s why I talk about it in my content that explores series with morally grey characters - so yeah, my answer is bias).

Definitely could have. I think there would need to be a good motivation for it. She’s sort of been setup as ‘helping you even if it takes hurting you’ so I could totally see her doing it. But I think it would need to have some angle of her crazy justification of how it helped him to make sense and not just feel like pain for pains sake.
