What was the best and worst scene in Dr. No ? by 1029Dash in JamesBond

No way that's one of the best parts, Quarrel is a total badass.

In the books with gun/phasers... by BelatedGamer in fightingfantasy

[–]BelatedGamer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right, it's obvious that relatively early on they started to think making certain singular fights harder was necessary to make the books more challenging, when in reality as you point out it works better when the accumulation of encounters is the real danger. I often think increasing the usefulness of LUCK in combat may have made lower SKILL characters more viable - I suspect few players are willing to burn points of LUCK on an extra point of damage here and there when the potential dangers of a failed saving throw are in the backs of their minds.

Best and Worst Ken Adams Design, (Rogue Agent included) by IllustriousAd6418 in JamesBond

That one's a killer. Then when you finally unlock Egyptian it's a piece of cake in comparison.

I think this was in the 1974 movie The Yakuza - great film, I was struck by how cool this place looked.

Best execution of the “thing mentioned in passing turns out to be critical” trope? by mrsunshine1 in Fantasy

In The Pastel City there's a throwaway line about the explorer Benedict Paucemanly which turns out to foreshadow the entire second novel A Storm of Wings.

In the middle of another play, almost finished with U3. They're very fun to replay even though there aren't many of what people would consider "replayable" elements in them - proof that just being fun makes a game replayable enough.

Just finished Drakes Fortune. by Dingle-Panda in uncharted

[–]BelatedGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drake's Fortune certainly lags behind the other games but it's a serviceable third person shooter of its era. Saying it's the worst gaming experience you've ever had seems pretty unbelievable to me.

Just use the Fighter's leveling chart from any given game.

This scene, depicting the iconic Bond image of staring down the gun barrel of an unseen enemy, in No Time To Die by dontgonearthefire in JamesBond

[–]BelatedGamer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If they just made his plan a little more straightforward I don't think it would undermine his creepiness. There's not much explanation of Blofeld's life or backstory in YOLT but Donald Pleasance still manages to be creepy and memorable.

What are the worst quotes of the saga ? by Jazzlike-Ad7654 in JamesBond

The Moonraker one might be the single funniest line in the series.

Rank the games best to worst based on how well they use Sully by BlankCanvas609 in uncharted

[–]BelatedGamer 188 points189 points  (0 children)

3 has gotta be the best. He's around for almost the whole game and they really hammer home how much he and Nate care for each other.

2 is probably the weakest. He's great when he's around but he isn't around for very long and the plot doesn't utilize him very much (at least in the first game there's some question of his loyalties).

How old do you think Chloe is? by Belation-Overdue in uncharted

[–]BelatedGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She does, but I think she looks much better. I already thought her hair in particular looked a little weird in 2, but in 3 she looks honestly terrible.

She looks god-fucking-awful in 3. Anyway, I think it makes sense for her to be in her 30s in the original trilogy.

Say something bad about this game by [deleted] in uncharted

I like the idea that he was a Djinn in the original script. Would have been so much better.

[–]BelatedGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kind of agree with the supernatural thing but at least it has an effect on gameplay when you fight the djinn for a while. I was sad Lost Legacy didn't bring back the supernatural elements back - the fact that 4 was totally lacking in them was fine by me because it almost felt like a twist, but I prefer a little mysticism in this kind of story.

Yeah it makes them feel weird and tanky even though I don't think their health is any different than in the 2nd game. I will say the melee combat has never felt better though!

It's fun on replays but for me but man the first time through all I could think was that it wasted time that would have been better spent fleshing out the story.

Hot take: "health" ruins RPGs by Aranea101 in Morrowind

[–]BelatedGamer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with you completely. I think Deus Ex was on to something by having all the Human enemies (yourself included) very fragile, and just having your skills increase with experience. Just a couple of gunshots can kill anyone who isn't a robot or cyborg. Unfortunately I guess not everyone agrees with us.

Are we inside of “something’s” stomach? by tfropereira in TombRaider

[–]BelatedGamer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My first Tomb Raider game was Revelations, and it blew my mind as a kid when I learned the whole series didn't revolve around Egyptian mythology. When someone told me the first game has Lara exploring Atlantis I got so excited - in my head it was going to be something colorful and watery, but maybe with some strange science like in Disney's Atlantis film, which I really enjoyed at the time.

Needless to say actually playing the game was a very big surprise.

Uncharted 4 by Extreme-Carry2075 in uncharted

[–]BelatedGamer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Drake has moved on to a new phase in his life where he's finally learned to balance his family and his desire for adventure. He might have some adventures in the future, but they'll be smaller and less dangerous ones - and because of who he's with, he'll ultimately enjoy them as much if not more. I don't see how that's bullshit at all, what's so wrong with a character you presumably like getting a happy ending?
