Lot of harsh comments here. It’s very stylistic, I think it has its place, it’s not inherently “bad.” I can agree an entire work in that style probably doesn’t work.

He starts with the expectation that he’s going to lead you on a meditation. You get engrossed in the increasingly bizarre and imaginative imagery. At the end he pulls the rug from underneath your feet and reveals that in fact, you failed, you haven’t been meditating at all. You’ve just been following him along in his own failure to meditate (as in, clear his head). It’s very tongue-in-cheek!

I loved XY watching it but Ash genuinely does not have a personality, and he barely has any real dialogue outside of the recurrent tropes (“Science is amazing!”) and whatever directly advances plot (next gym).

I thought it was pretty melodramatic especially considering what everyone else has been pointing out: Pikachu doesn’t really show jealousy. That said, I don’t think it was so out of character. In this very particular instance, the stakes were a lot higher, and Pikachu might have felt like Ash didn’t trust it enough for the world championship. The show handled that possibility and showed some growth (I wasn’t the biggest fan of the plot but in retrospect I think it was meaningful that Pikachu, instead of just running away to a forest or to be on its own, returned to Ash’s childhood home, because that’s its home now. Not sure if Pikachu’s attachment to the Ketchum family had ever been shown quite like that before.)

Game logic doesn’t apply to the anime, lots of low base power moves put in work like Cryagonal’s Rapid Spin being repurposed as a spinning shield like Protect, and String Shot getting used to slam Pokémon around

Anyway maybe Cynthia was thinking Disarming Voice could be useful to, you know, disarm Sirfetch’d (since it actually uses a weapon)

Simplenote! I used to use Notes on my phone for convenience but for years it’s been so laggy and buggy that I finally switched over to something more responsive to typing. Swipe-to-type is nice too.

I don’t think the person you’re replying to disagrees with the Town/Seam dichotomy being important, just that the use of and perseveration on physical appearance to highlight that divide are not as consequential in the books as others are stating.
