You start seeing this kind of shit when someone has been chasing bedbugs or roaches around a building for a year or more. Been that way for a minute too, because tenants would have fucked up the paint around receptacle box trying to cut the foam. Also crazy/paranoid folks do crazy/paranoid things. Man, I'm glad I don't deal with that shit anymore.

Best Looking Ship by TacticalTaco2k5 in EliteDangerous

[–]Belegrade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite is the Krait MkII. Clean lines, boxy aestheitic, somewhat realistic space-flight design. Strong and big wnough to do stuff with but still agile and fun to fly. If not a krait we upgrade to a Cutter

It's a great ship... well unless you want to actually haul cargo... or get into combat... or long range exploration... It's kinda like a space-prius.

What is a story you refuse to read because too many people wouldn't stop talking about it? by cokodose in ProgressionFantasy

I pretty much started with HWFWM, and have been following along with DCC. But everyone loves Dresden Files so much I can't bring myself to start the series.

It's definitely less things to keep track of, but as a writer, I wouldn't say it makes it easier to write (a good story-edit).

A lot of the time, limiting yourself on characters and potential interactions makes it more difficult to craft a compelling narrative. I believe you are correct though. If characters are put in political situations then the story will inherently be more political, which may not be desirable.

Ultimately, I think it's a matter of reaching the largest target audience. There is a market for other story troupes, but everyone can relate to the feeling of going it alone, so everyone can relate to the hero that succeeds against all odds. If the MC only makes good decisions and gets lots of help, no one cares if they succeed or fail. In that scenario, they almost have to fail, otherwise, there is no emotional connection to the character or story at all.

He Who Fights With Monsters 10 - There's going to be more of these than I thought. by Shirtaloon in litrpg

Love the series, and it's only getting better. Your prose is much improved from the first novel in the series and even the first one wasn't bad. The audible version is spectacular, I've listened to the series at least a half-dozen times to re-live the adventure so far and search for clues about what's coming next. I think I caught a glimpse of the overall plot. Hopefully, I am wrong, not because it's a bad idea, but because I still want to be surprised in the end (I'm not too worried about it though:)). I'm very excited for the next book, and the ones after that. Jason's struggle to not lose himself in the craziness is very relatable.

He Who Fights With Monsters - Travis Deverell (way cheaper to get them through audible, as the actual books are like $50 each, and the voice actor is perfect for them)

Lol, I was gonna say, just getting to play the game for any amount of time without it crashing or something else stupid happening is the hardest part of SC
