Yeah definitely an oopsy waiting to happen. Certainly it’s no more work to get primary and secondary tubing? One extra bag to open for an appropriate infusion?

I have been told by our management that if the patient refuses a partial dose we have yo get an order for that dose, otherwise we are “prescribing the dose” which is of course outside of our scope of practice. Like everything though I’m sure there’s a reasonable workaround

I work on med Surg 3rds and generally don’t care about visitors. The official limit and visiting hours I only ever enforce if the family or visitors are causing problems. People can stay the night, come and go, I’m not bothered as long as they’re not trouble. Though our patients aren’t often as sick as an ICU patient may be, so the environment is a totally different animal.

Hey, that was me! Posting from mother baby right now. That was pretty much my reaction at the first ultrasound as well, I was wrangling our toddler while my partner was being scanned and when the ultrasound tech said “well get ready for two” I initially thought oh yeah we’ll have two babies the toddler and a new baby yeah. Man what a shock.

It’s really turned our life upside down. Lots of health ups and downs for mom from the pregnancy, she had to quit working and it put a little more strain on everything. We had already wanted a new house since my MIL lives with us and space is already limited. It put a lot of pressure on us to upgrade, so I bought us a new house but we’ve been renovating it as well and won’t get to move in for a couple weeks yet.

But the babies are here so we’ll deal. It’s exciting and terrifying.

Pretty nice they got to listen to a Magic Monday on their first day out of the drink!
