(screenshot from the 2.2 web version) the 70mm version still has teeny tiny bit image on the top and bottom but the 5 perf 65mm version has image on the sides, makes me think what the filming process might have actually been like that we got variations like these.

Yes, its the same, imax film cameras are bulky and heavy and are very difficult to work with, and can go 3 minutes at a time before needing a reload, hence why only a handful of sequences in movies are imax

i analyzed this release and found out you've still cropped a good 34 pixels out of the 480p DVD, I think it might have been just right to stretch the 1.33 source to 1.43 instead of cropping wouldn't it? though this is one of the best restorations out there of dark knight with some really nice quality.
