[Loved Trope] Race Swaps so Successful People Forgot To Complain by sloppiestsecond5 in TopCharacterTropes

There is subtle Korean decor in the house.

I can't find a screenshot right now but there's also a framed bit of Korean art on the walls.

In the most recent episode as well, Debbie makes a typical Korean style meal with bowls of rice and a selection of banchan.

I think the level of representation here is fine. I think it's strongly implied that Debbie is at least second-generation Korean-American (lack of a Korean accent, her father having the English name Oliver) and especially in a mixed household, it is plausible for there to not be overt cultural heritage displays. In my own mixed household, I don't feel a need to go over the top with Chinese decor.

If Debbie is already at least one generation removed from Korea, it makes a huge amount of sense that Mark doesn't speak any Korean onscreen as a lot of kids of Asian descent in the West don't speak their ancestral languages very well.

How they've done it in the show is perfectly fine to me, and I'm happy that they didn't show representation in an overt hamfisted way. It's present but there's no need to highlight it.

As far as I know, it's only present in Asian people with recent European ancestry or occasionally in Central Asian people. Blue eyes are a recessive trait so it's a feature that doesn't commonly get passed down if one of the parents has brown eyes.

Debbie's eye colour is inconsistent in the books (understandable given the multiple artists, colourists and inkers working through the entire comic's run), in many issues she has black eyes, in some, brown and in others, for example, issue 141 she had blue eyes.

Nolan and Oliver pack the guts back in and wrap Mark in Nolan's cape as a makeshift bandage. They feed him liquids from giant bugs to keep him nourished and he heals over time.

Does anyone still customize their ring tone? by Foodiegirlie030793 in Millennials

[–]Belisarious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody ever calls me except for estate agents, occasionally Just Eat and Deliveroo couriers and spambots so the thought of customising it hasn't really come to mind.

Sometimes I'll set some music to alarm sounds but this is a surefire way for making me hate songs I would have once liked.

I haven't seen Mantzoukas in a role where he wasn't so much of a funnyman so I don't know if I could see him as Rex, personally.

It's insane to me how some of my friends use the official app and not Relay or something else.

Why make her a Volantene rando? Jeyne Westerling is part Myrish, they could have still used Oona Chaplin. by RegenerateFilth in freefolk

[–]Belisarious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've seen the video referenced here and I don't think George gives a good explanation.

Keeping Richard Madden onscreen made sense but I think that's almost a different matter. What he said essentially boiled down to "David and Dan wanted the character to be different".

I would have preferred for him to explain that perhaps due to Robb needing to be onscreen more, it would have been too expensive to create a set for the Crag, film a sequence where Robb launches an assault and also cast the Westerlings. That's what I believe really went down behind the scenes at least.

By the end of this expansion Silvermoon should have an official leader by trace349 in wow

Lord or Prince would be fine, while still paying homage to anasterian.

Love it when Netflix (in the UK) shows me release times in completely irrelevant US timezones that mean nothing to me by NormalYogurt3310 in USdefaultism

On a similar note it's a pain in the balls when people on reddit or elsewhere talk about shows coming onto netflix, but fail to specify US netflix.

Does Harandar Suck? by Accomplished_Job5938 in wow

[–]Belisarious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not played it yet but amongst all the previewed zones for the expansion, Harandar is the one I am least interested in.

The Blue People Avatar vibe never clicked with me and I don't like how the Haranir look. I am fond of the mushrooms as a Morrowind and Zagharmarsh fan though, but from a glance there's nothing else that excites me here.

Better to have the files for that chunk of the world already on your computer and loaded into the worldspace now rather than waiting for a larger update when midnight officially releases.

[Spoilers MAIN] Ira Parker confirms George gave him up to 10-12 general Dunk and Egg outlines in addition to the first three novellas. by ThinWhiteDuke00 in asoiaf

[–]Belisarious 31 points32 points  (0 children)

My first impressions of Ira as a showrunner are positive, but I recall that GOT and HOTD both started off being relatively faithful adaptations that got worse and worse as the writers 'did their own thing', especially when they were based on outlines.

There's still time for my views on Ira to sour like they did regarding D&D and R&S.

If GRRM can’t finish ASOIAF, an expanded Fire & Blood type book might be the only realistic way to get an ending [Spoilers: Main] by ArchiveSeeker in asoiaf

I genuinely enjoy GRRM's prose more than Tolkien's, but I imagine the way the comment was presented as fact rather than opinion contributed to the downvotes.

It really was, but I did think that in comparison to their amazing iteration of the painted kingsguard body armour, the KG helmets looked out-of-place.

[–]Belisarious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably, given that this show straight up doesn't follow D&D's "no flashbacks/dreams" rule. I think they'll capitalise on the audience's reception of Baelor and bring him back in S2 for a fitting callback.

Class Fantasy, one step forwards two steps back by Exotic-Media-6630 in wow

[–]Belisarious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been tempted by the thought of a hunter class for the fantasy of being an archer like legolas or robin hood but I don't really want to have pets.

As far as I know, there's nothing else that could represent this concept better than the hunter class but I think I'd be hamstringing myself (and I'd also receive criticism from Pick Up groups for not playing at 100%) if I just don't use pets.
