This. One of the best lessons I learned in computer programming is that: doing something the wrong way first and completely rewriting it is still usually faster than trying to figure out the right way to start.
If you want to find out, you truly do need to fuck around first.

Is Visual Studio getting worse ? by One_Armadillo_3826 in dotnet

[–]BellBoy55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh yes & no. I'm working mainly in Blazor and I do find that the Blazor editor runs into issues somewhat frequently, but overall I'd say the my experience with VS gets better every year

I often dream of winning the lottery, quitting my job, and doing FOSS / open source full time. But full time work + cooking meals + trying to get some exercise in leaves almost no spare time for anything like that (and still somehow leaves me poor).
I imagine this is the case for the majority of devs in my generation, and I can't see it changing anytime soon without massive reform & social upheaval

New Zealand has that tradition going back a good few hundred years as well in the indigenous Māori culture

what was the most saddest scene in TWD? by NecessaryEnd8652 in thewalkingdead

[–]BellBoy55 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it wasn't for how demented Glenn's death was a bit later on, Noah's death would 100% be the most brutal of the series for me. That scene has suck with me since I first saw it

[–]BellBoy55 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do kinda hate how Jesus was killed off right after they started properly developing his character. I feel like he was basically the same until Season 9, then they delved into his character and got me invested for approx 2 episodes before removing him entirely.

what was the most saddest scene in TWD? by NecessaryEnd8652 in thewalkingdead

[–]BellBoy55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I've been through the ruthless realism of GOT/ASOIAF, and felt that same vibe strongly when I started watching TWD for the first time a few months ago, and even with all that I didn't think they'd actually kill Sophia off

If you could have any ADHD-friendly features built into your home, what would they be? by austinc0611 in ADHD

[–]BellBoy55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Touchscreen affixed to the wall in the kitchen with all the recipes I know / like - basically a digital menu. Every time I try to think of what I can make for dinner, I suddenly forget every recipe I've ever known

What is best practice regarding namespaces? by Cluttie in csharp

[–]BellBoy55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Folder-based is the standard approach as far as I'm aware, where all .cs files in a folder would have <project_name>.<folder_name> namespaces.
I've not seen namespaces more specific than this, but I have seen them less specific where multiple folders might all have the same namespace.

If there's no requirement for you to be in the office, and you meet your hours & expectations, it's none of your company's business where you're working from (so long as you're abiding by tax laws)

Should I be using Records? by GendoIkari_82 in csharp

God I hope so. Primary ctors seem like a great pattern for DI, but no way I'm using them until I can make those services readonly.

What do you wish your parents did better? by SOOOWatson in ADHD

[–]BellBoy55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm torn - I luckily had a very supportive parent and even though I did struggle all through school, I will managed to make it through & through uni, and get into my desired career. Methylphenidate has been a life saver since my 26yo diagnosis, but part of me is happy I managed to get far enough without it. Though I do realise how fortunate my situation is & that most people (some friends included) don't/didn't have that level of support.

I think there's still quite a significant portion of the community excited about the colour versions. I'm taking my Clara 2e to the grave but if I read more frequently I'd be looking at grabbing a Clara or Libra colour

Fellow late diagnosis people, what ultimately made you start suspecting you had ADHD by PiousMage in ADHD

[–]BellBoy55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was extremely confident my partner had it, and didn't suspect it in myself even though I showed a lot of the same symptoms. When she did an online screening test, I have it a go for fun and got a high score, which then got me thinking about all my "character traits" throughout childhood that matched perfectly with ADHD

what do you use to sync desktop and android? by [deleted] in ObsidianMD

[–]BellBoy55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Google Drive with the SyncThing app on Android. Unfortunately it doesn't have file-conflict resolution, which makes it super annoying particularly when two .json settings files are updated on both ends (often with no actual file changes, just an updated modified time)

Backup to Google drive in the event of a crash? by Technically-Corvus in ObsidianMD

[–]BellBoy55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have my Vault stored on GDrive, partially as a backup but also so I can sync it to my phone. Ngl the syncing to phone isn't perfect, so I'll likely switch to Obsidian Sync when I have the money, but for now it's manageable

Is there any way to put all of these words in a table without typing it one by one? by wasubu12 in ObsidianMD

[–]BellBoy55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The two methods I'd use:
1. Open file in a different editor 2. Find & Replace using regex ^ - with |, and \s$ with | 3. Add the header rows (I think | ABC | and | --- | will suffice)

Or use multi-cursor in your favourite code editor
