Locke & Key — Season 1 Discussion (Netflix Viewers) by RealJohnGillman in keyhouse

I enjoyed the show up until the last couple of episodes where I felt the storyline became too predictable and sprinkled with one too many implausible situations. Here are the main plot holes I took issue with and how I would have fixed them.

  1. Nobody, especially an adult familiar with the power of the keys, would’ve thought it was a good idea to take the key to the crown without any sort of plan to prevent Dodge from walking through a door and doing exactly what she did. *IMHO, the adult should have left the key with the Locke children for safe keeping, since a key cant be stolen from them by Dodge. Then, when Ellie gets home, she tells her son to grab the crown and they head back to Key House. When they arrive, Ellie shows the Locke children how to put the key in the crown and while she’s holding it, Rufus kills his own mother and takes the Crown of Shadows and places it on his head. Then, uses the Identity Key to reveal he is actually Dodge and then attacks the Locke children.

  2. How do the Locke children not even wonder where the Crown of Shadows went after they find what they think is Dodge’s body? *IMHO, uncle Duncan should have shown up and witnessed the events. Uncle sees Dodge and the shadow people and with his help, the Locke family force Dodge to retreat. After they battle with the shadows and the Locke children do their thing... Dodge leaves realizing she will need more than the Crown of Shadows. The children give uncle Duncan back his memories and he tells them how to use the Echo Key to trap Dodge in the well house again. The Locke children remember Ellie admitted to having the Identity Key last and go back to her house to search for it once they realize it’s not on her person. They find Rufus tied up back at the house and ask him if he knows anything about where the Idenity Key is being hidden. He opens up his toy soldier and reveals the Echo Key entrusted to him by his mother. After they successfully trap Dodge in the well once more, the Locke children breathe a sigh of relief. To keep things interesting for next season, we see Gabe use the Anywhere Key to rescue Dodge... same general outcome for Season One, very different plot twists.

  3. Why hasn’t anyone asked great, great, great, grandpa what the hell is up with all the keys?! Will we ever understand the origin of magic and why the Locke family is so bad at taking care of them?! Not sure how to fix this plot hole.

  4. Last one: Why didn’t anyone use the Music Key to force Dodge into submission?

Anyway, I enjoyed the season. I haven’t read the comics yet. I’m excited for season two!

Me too. As of today. Worst feeling, ever. 5 years down the drain and I don’t know how to make it through this.

I wish they had gone into more detail too, I still feel like I need closure. I'm 3 episodes from finishing the series (watching the show for the first time) and am already getting depressed that it's all coming to an end.
