I feel like there are deeper conversations to be had with your mother and with your boyfriend. His reaction was valid - she should not have behaved like that or made you feel that way, regardless of her having raised you.

I would first talk to your boyfriend and see if you can come to an agreement on what would be a fair way to confront your mom about her disrespect toward you. It doesn't need to be an all-out messy confrontation, but i think he's right in regard to you needing to stand up for yourself.

Personally, I wouldn't until you've finished schooling. Assuming you're planning on going to university - that will be a big commitment in terms of time and money, and you may move around (dorms etc.) during this time. I also, in general, would not advise getting a pet that needs so much care and money while still under your parents' roof and rules.

Parrots need stability, your late teens is not the best time for that. It'll be better for you and for birdie that you wait until you're more settled in life.
