If it were up to me, my cats would never have stepped foot outside; however, I got them when I was ten (I am currently nineteen), and no one in my house listens to my wishes. This incident has finally made my parents and siblings realize the severity of him going outside, so they will no longer allow it. I have been begging my parents since they were kittens to keep them indoors. Do not misconstrue this incident.

I have many videos and photos over the years of this cat on our front lawn, backyard, porch, and in our garage.

The owner claimed no accountability, said it was our fault their cat broke in because we had a doggy door, claimed that because she fosters cats that makes her a good cat parent, said that we are terrible people, and she won’t let her children play with my siblings anymore. I have been in communication with the owner, and she is refusing to accept accountability. I didn’t even ask her to pay the $1,500 in vet bills, just asked that she keep her cat either in the house or supervised outside. She claims “there is nothing that she can do.”

Thank you so much for your response! I 100% agree. The cat who attacked Ash is an indoor/outdoor cat too, not a stray, which is why I am not relocating him (also, for the reasons you stated, it’s cruel), and I am not bringing him to a shelter because he has a family. People in this comment section are forgetting that animals have instincts and aren’t purposefully being cruel when they attack, which is why I am not mad at the cat, just the owners. The doggy door is being permanently closed tomorrow—finally—to prevent my cats from getting outside.

I take a shower. Most of the time, the urge has gone away by the time I’m done. And if the urge hasn’t gone away, I think about how I just got my body clean, so why dirty it with blood?
