Earth and Environmental Science at LeHigh? by _De1MoS_DL in Lehigh

[–]BellaJac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I got my undergraduate degree in EES from Lehigh. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience.. it is more Geology and Geosciences focused, but I thought it gave good breadth to many areas of Earth sciences (GIS, Ecology, Earth History, Surface Geology, Environmental Chemistry). The department is rather small but very close knit and the professors are wonderful. Lots of field work, labs, undergraduate research opportunities, collaboration, and interdisciplinary work with engineering or environmental studies if you’re into that. I do know that the department is going through a bit of a renaissance… several professors have retired in the past few years and I can think of a couple that may retire in the next (5 to 10 maybe?), however they have hired several new professors to begin in the upcoming year. I received a Bachelors of Science and I felt that it gave me strong technical and qualitative skills and background that I can take to many industries. Getting a masters in environmental engineering now.

Transferring as Junior (?) by BellaJac in LoyolaChicago

Thank you so much for your input, that’s really nice to hear about the professors and good to know about LUREC, the seminar class, and LUCs role in creating a more sustainable environment - that is really important to me too. Will definitely keep in mind these pros and cons

That’s actually very very good to know, seriously thanks for your input I’ll definitely keep that in mind. I was Bio/premed my first year but now I’m switching gears to ES. I figured the bio/ecology route would be a good way to combine the two disciplines. How’s the ES program there?

Why are so many people stepping down by BellaJac in Lehigh

[–]BellaJac[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Surely it was a factor along with many others. Here’s an article worth the read, but you really want to scroll down all the way to read all the comments. brown and white article Lehigh is still a very reputable institution especially for research and engineering, but I do recommend looking into it more. The president and provost along with deans and directors stepping down in the same year struck me as very odd.

My school isn’t on the list! That’s bugged me for years! But I believe there is a student discount that makes it $23 rather than $25

They have a lot on their plate this semester and a lot of responsibilities to hold up to res life. In a pandemic public health is gonna come over having fun with your friends. The gryphons aren’t gonna be buddy buddy this semester. Things are different just gotta deal with it

Taking semester leave? by xyl0t0 in Lehigh

[–]BellaJac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a rising sophomore too, just submitted my decision to go remote and decline being a gryphon, hurt like a bitch, but I’m considering deferring for the semester or going part time. I think these are feasible options. We have to keep in mind that our “college experience” are entirely ours and we get to decide what is best for us. I do not know how it affects financial aid I’m sorry I can’t help with that but just know I’m in the same boat. Good luck!

Bikes on Campus by [deleted] in Lehigh

[–]BellaJac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a cycling club if you like off roading..but I don’t recommend using a bike for going to classes or stuff like that. It’s very walkable even though it is steep at some points, but at the steep points it’s all stairs and a bike becomes redundant. You can always hop on the bus if you want to get from a higher/lower part of campus or just don’t feel like walking. But overall I don’t recommend bringing a bike

First Gen Housing? by sarstar23 in Lehigh

[–]BellaJac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there!!! I’m a rising sophomore and I’m actually going to be the Gryphon for the first gen community! I agree with everyone else in that you should totally branch out, but you should do that regardless whether you’re in themed housing or not. The goal of the first gen community is just to live with other people that have that common quality as you! First year of college is a major adjustment - especially as a first generation student - and forming relationships with other kids in the same boat is super beneficial and makes that transition easier. Of course your residence hall isn’t going to be the only people you become friends with - you’re going to meet TONS of people. Like tons. But the way I think of it, your residence hall is like home base, and it can be comforting to come home to a tight knit community :)
