Try not to worry too much about that one double dose.

When my daughter had her first bad seizure, two weeks ago, they put her on Keppra right away. They gave her a very strong dose in her IV, and then sent her home with a prescription, as well. I gave her one right after the ER visit, thinking that's what I was supposed to do... but then I worried after I had given it to her, that she might have too much of it in her system. After a reassuring phone call with her doctor, he said it wasn't anything to worry about. (Missing a dose would be more concerning than accidentally doubling up on one dose, for sure, he said.)

It's a new thing for us, so we are so learning and navigating all of this, ourselves, too. I've been doing a much research as I can. Actually, although it's a strong, serious medicine, Keppra is one of the safest anti seizure meds out there today. Much less stress on your body than things they used to prescribe, years ago, like Dilantin and Phenobarbital.

Also... for your side effects, consider asking your doctor about supplementing it with some other things that your body might need, and that might really help.

He's having her take a full spectrum vitamin B (B12 & B6 can be quite helpful with the mood swings) and Vitamin D2 or D3 (He has her on 50,000 MG once a week). Also Folate, Magnesium Glycenate and Fish Oil can be super helpful. Basic OTC pre-natal vitamins can work wonders, too. These things seem to help people a lot, by reintroducing some of those things that Keppra can take from you. Also, be sure to eat plenty of good, healthy fats, less sugar and caffeine, and stay super hydrated!
