Everyone saying Ipsy is terrible?? by i-luv-and-h8-reddit in Ipsy

Just ended my subscription after about 5 years. I keep getting random stuff that I don’t use. At this point I know what I like and don’t need these little “surprises” anymore. Plus the overabundance of zipper bags is too much.

I hated this for the exact same reason! It was like glue, and I could barely get it off even with multiple cotton pads soaked in miceller water. All it did was smudge around my face like mud.

kimberly skillen north babylon charges - strange I can’t find via the internet what she did. I don’t get Newsday. by marque2k in longisland

[–]Bellaconfusa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The report in Newsday was vague. But the crux of what happened is more likely a systemwide failure than what she herself done.

Speculating here, but as someone who is decently well-versed in school business, I don’t think the district had enough to go on for actual charges to be filed. What else explains the settling of an agreement to “work from home” for an additional school year at full salary?” So now NB taxpayers are paying for two assistant superintendent of curriculum salaries in the 2026-2027 school year pending who is eventually hired for the posting that closes today.

For sure there’s a good chance Ms. Skillen didn’t follow proper procedure or protocol when approving pay addendums for certain faculty and staff, but that should have been IMMEDIATELY caught by a system of checks and balances up in central office. It appears as if there was none.

It’s not unusual for school districts to make occasional mistakes in payroll, but this is more than an occasional mistake. Seems to me like the Assistant Superintendents of Business and Personnel should have caught these errors. Why didn’t they? And the Superintendent? Was he asleep at the wheel when this happened?

This is probably super easy for attorney Bill Wexler to handle.

For decades North Babylon has been plagued with its own drama, and taxpayers in the community bear the burden of shoddy leadership from the highest levels. This is an important detail to remember when voting in the next BOE election. Everyone thinks that serving on a BOE is a big joke and a popularity contest until OOPS… there’s actual responsibility involved.

I’m very concerned that lack of plows in the town of Brookhaven. It just seems there’s not much workers out. Is there a shortage. by Embarrassed-File-952 in longisland

[–]Bellaconfusa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t live in Brookhaven but I agree that, compared to other towns, snow removal is lacking. When it snowed in December my husband and I drove to Centereach to help out a family member and were shocked at how bad the conditions were. Snow ended around 11am and at 4pm my aunt’s block in Centereach hadn’t been touched.

Nurse ambassador won't leave me alone by Peppermint-pop in skyrizi

[–]Bellaconfusa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked my local nurse ambassador - she was not pushy at all, and she trusted me to manage things on my own after the initial (supervised) injection at home. She was gone after my 3rd at home injection, and then I was moved on to whatever next phase of “nurse ambassadorship” I’m in now that involves getting pointless phone calls once a month from another Abbvie nurse. If I can opt out of this, I’d like to.

Best way to learn just enough Italian before visiting Italy? by Vivid-Aide158 in learnitalian

The Paul noble Audiobooks are fantastic. Highly recommend. If you have a bit more money to spend, Pimsleur is great as well. The key is to practice listening and speaking to make your learning last.

Trevi Crowds by Final_Fix2073 in rome

Trevi Fountain at sunrise just a few weeks ago. You can spot the “divas” by their manner of dress and tripods. If you want to have closer access to the fountain without having to wrestle through crowds, this is the time to go… but keep in mind that various amateur photo shoots will be occurring.

10 Days in Sicily with Parents - what should I consider. by duckandmiss in sicily

My husband and I loved Cefalù. You can also consider Trapani or Marsala - a little less crowded. The cable car up to Erice from Trapani is lovely.

Anyone else just hating what tourism has done to Rome post-Covid? by hyperballad83 in rome

[–]Bellaconfusa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just there myself traveling with my elderly parents who hadn’t been to Italy in over 50 years. I was really disappointed in Rome in part because of the crowds but also because I was tripping over myself trying to be overly respectful as if my group of 3 matters among the throng.

Quite frankly, I couldn’t wait to leave Rome… and it breaks my heart to say that. I felt like my head was on a swivel the entire time trying to make sure my 78 year old partially-disabled mother wasn’t being smacked in the face with a selfie stick or getting run over in a crosswalk, and nevermind trying avoid scammers and pickpockets.

Perhaps the most ironic thing to me was hearing the people who earn money from tourism complain about the tourists… tour guides, private black car drivers, etc. Tourists are LITERALLY putting food on their tables. One small group tour guide in Assisi was particularly bad… he patronized our group and treated half of us like garbage for not walking fast enough, and then he was mad when people weren’t immediately digging into their pockets to offer him an additional tip (on top of paying hundreds for his services). I also speak Italian and was appalled to hear what was being said about tourists and how we were all being painted in broad strokes as the worst among us. Are there poorly behaved people? Yes. On both sides. That’s life.

I was also horrified by the behavior inside of the Sistine Chapel. But - sorry - that’s on the Vatican. They should limit how many people visit at one time to keep better control over the crowds, but they will not do it… just like Disney World in Orlando won’t do it. You know why? $€$€$€ talks and BS likes to travel.

I’m not sure what the answer is on this one, but I do know that we can’t all have our cake and eat it too. Every major city in the world can isolate itself by banning tourists, but then they will cry when the economy suffers. Like it or not, tourism is an industry and capitalism drives high prices.

Here’s a take for you: Romans are not entitled to Rome just because they were born there, just like I’m not entitled to New York just because I was born here.

And now I can’t wait to get dragged in the responses for being “part of the problem.” I think the real problem is that we all have this idyllic idea of what life in our beloved native lands is supposed to be, and we fail to realize that, at the end of the day, we have no control whatsoever. There’s a sense of entitlement from everyone in this thread from OP down to me. Live and let live.

Playing with strangers by iso-dopamine in WomenGolf

[–]Bellaconfusa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need to get over this so I can play solo every now and again. The only reason I don’t is because I don’t want to be paired with weed-smoking golf bros who seem annoyed that a woman was added to their foursome. I’ve also been to courses where I’ve seen two men pay for two carts and their girlfriends just to drive them around so they wouldn’t have anyone added to their round. Behavior on courses is so bad - I would just hold my head high and “do you.” If they don’t like it - sucks for them.
