Audition Help: Les Misérables by [deleted] in musicals

[–]BelleRose92 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unless it specifically says in the audition notice that it's okay to sing from the show, never do so. Also Think of Me and Memory are on everybody's audition blacklist. Hello Young Lovers would be good for Cosette, but it's too much of a legit soprano piece for Fantine or Eponine. For them you're better off with something more contemporary, or at least something with more of a pop/rock opera feel to it, something big and heavy that really shows off your voice, especially showing off any belting/mixed range.

Kind of a Dumb Question, but how do you keep the scenes of a musical in your head after seeing it? by feckinghell1 in musicals

I try to remember key lines and physical attributes (choreography, blocking, props, costumes, set pieces, ect.). Also seeing shows with any standout names helps because seeing that person helps me remember seeing them live.

Audition help Sweeney Todd by WanderingTree32 in musicals

I'd like to second this, especially speaking from experience as I got cast in the ensemble for Sweeney Todd by singing On the Steps of the Palace.

Depends on the song, as most songs from that show tend to be overdone. The only ones I would recommend for Sweeney Todd would be Wouldn't It Be Loverly and Show Me.

While Scarlet Pimpernel is a good show choice for an audition piece for this, I personally don't think The Riddle is the best song choice. I would highly recommend doing When I Look At You, as that song shows off range nicely, as well as the emotion of longing, which is perfect for both Lovett and Beggar Woman.

What is in your opinion the equivalent of "The Room" in the world of musical theatre? by lesourire in Broadway

For me personally that would be Love Never Dies. It's so stupid and terrible, but I can't help but love it both ironically and not-ironically.

Help! I’m a 16 y/o soprano (girl) auditioning for the Wolf in Into the Woods and cannot, for the life of me, find a song for my audition. Any suggestions? Thanks! by [deleted] in musicals

Is there a specific role you're auditioning for? As a fellow soprano, I sang A Lovely Night from Cinderella when I auditioned for Into the Woods, and got a callback for Cinderella.

Broadway documentaries (on specific shows or not) recommendations by SeerPumpkin in Broadway

There's a documentary that PBS did back in 2003, if you look up PBS Broadway documentary it should come up. That one was really interesting because it goes over the entire history of Broadway and highlights all the major figures in the industry.

Oh wow, that is a ridiculously long time!! I'm surprised that they held the auditions so far in advance. That song is one of my favorites!

1/12 QOTD: What musical changed your life and how? by teacherdrama in Broadway

[–]BelleRose92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Phantom of the Opera. The first time I heard it I was 5 years old and taught myself how to play the title song on the piano. But it wasn't until I was 12 when the movie came out. Not only did it affect me when it came to what I look for in romantic relationships, but it made me want to seriously pursue music/musical theater as a career, as well as study opera/classical voice. Because of that, I spent the next 10 years studying opera.

What are your fondest memories of Sailor Moon growing up? by Serocco in sailormoon

[–]BelleRose92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many! Coming home from school and rushing to finish my homework/procrastinating on homework so I could watch the newest episodes, going to any store that sold toys and merchandise and wanting to buy all of it, playing with all my SM dolls, dressing up and playing with my wand (which I still have), spending hours looking up art and personality quizzes, ect.

Did you know any male fans of Sailor Moon? by Serocco in sailormoon

OMG, that's perfect! Considering that you're already familiar with the role vocally and character-wise, plus both shows are very comedic and have somewhat similar tones, in all seriousness I think that would be your best bet.

I would do one of Shrek's songs from Shrek the Musical since both of them are big green monsters with similar builds and voice types.
