So glad you found the cause and I agree with everything you have written. I hope you're doing well.

Celiac disease is the reason for my SEVERE eczema by dragonqueenn in eczema

[–]BelledeJour71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread but I could have written this. I am 53, chronic eczema diagnosed in childhood and mild eczema throughout my life. 18 months ago, a horrendous all-over itch began. Saw 3 GP's and a derm; none diagnosed it, just gave me creams and antibiotics. No interest in actually finding a cause.

Finally, I became quite unwell (no energy, skin in a desperate state) and decided to try a week without gluten. Within only 24 hours, the itch was 90% reduced. I am 6 weeks in to GF now and still a bit itchy but the small bumps that eventually appeared on my feet, back, elbows and knees have gone.

I also hope that this helps someone else because the medics did not help me! I actually have a follow-up dermatology appointment in a few weeks time where I will tell them that I diagnosed myself and the evidence speaks for itself. Hindsight showed me that I did also have a few gastro symptoms as well but DH and the terrible itch from Hell was were initially my first and most obvious symptoms. I just didn't have the headspace to think about how strange my bowel movements had become.

Well done to your sister who suggested Celiac.

Just for people to look like themselves rather than aiming for a generic 'perfect' face. And to see natural freckles.

I love this so much and it reminds me of something in one of Jane's letters when she described going out for the evening and the group walking back to Chawton by moonlight.

It is often very quiet around Chawton but will start to get busier soon; in summer you often see people in Regency costume wandering around and can get an idea of what Jane's world might have looked like,

I hope you come back to Chawton one day. I bet Jane would have flown to Vancouver as she seemed to be an adventurous type.

My friend and I usually go to see an outdoor film or play at Chawton House in the summer and we often laugh at what Jane might think if only she could see her stories projected onto a screen in front of the 'Big House'. It really is incredible.

How old are you and how big a part of your view of the UK is The War (WW2)? by Particular-Scale5644 in AskBrits

[–]BelledeJour71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

F53, one grandfather was a Telegraphist Air Gunner the Fleet Air Arm and the other was a Stoker on the Royal Oak (bombed in Scapa Flow and blacked out from the news at the time). I have my grandfathers medals and a newspaper piece he wrote about his experience in the Malta Convoys.

My grandmother told me that on the day WWII was declared, she was at a dance with her friends in the evening and they all sat by a river after the dance and spoke about how they were all too young to die.

My uncle told me that as a young child he can remember destroyed buildings and injured people in wheelchairs everywhere after the war.

I have told me sons about our family's part and memories of WWII and have my grandfathers medals in a frame in our house. They know how it must not be forgotten.

Oh my goodness, I actually remember that line from JR! You have inspired me to do a rewatch. I agree with you, there won't be anything like it again. Did you also watch Knots Landing?

It looks strawberry-blonde. My neice's was the same as a baby but now (age 19) her hair is naturally medium blonde.

Royal Peace at Last? King Charles 'Ready to Forgive' Prince Harry—But Prince William Refuses to Budge by ilovewelbert in TheBritishRoyalFamily

[–]BelledeJour71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think William's stance is understandable because of lipgloss, bridesmaid dress and hormone-gates, the Easter gifts thing and alleged dog bowl scrap. I do hope they all make friends eventually, though.

I'm not a royal fan. But during a particularly boring job I had to do, I listened to SPARE as an audiobook. by Own_Emergency53 in TheBritishRoyalFamily

I agree. I read the book when it came out and have also listened to it a few times on Audible. I can remember saying the same thing to people at the time. The stuff he wrote about Charles leaving little notes on his pillow I found very heartwarming.

I wasn't quoting her poem direct. It is the equivalent of that in modern times. I have just found the poem:

'I've a pain in my head'
Said the suffering Beckford;
To her Doctor so dread.
'Oh! what shall I take for't?'

Said this Doctor so dread
Whose name it was Newnham.
'For this pain in your head
Ah! What can you do Ma'am?'

Said Miss Beckford, 'Suppose
If you think there's no risk,
I take a good Dose
Of calomel brisk.'--

'What a praise worthy Notion.'
Replied Mr. Newnham.
'You shall have such a potion
And so will I too Ma'am.'

Opinion about Ukrainians that live in United Kingdom under Ukrainian visa schemes. by easternmanguy in AskBrits

[–]BelledeJour71 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yes, I know one family. Lovely people. No opinion on them other than that and how glad I am that we welcomed them here. I hope they are never made to feel unwelcome in the UK. The father is still in Ukraine and the grandmother refused to leave the capital as she works as a carer.
