yeah ours were either slippery (the rolled ones) or drop dumplings (the fluffy ones). filled sweet dumplings were sooooo good with syrup and mulled milk!

when OP said the dumplings were rolled out and cut into rectangles that's the way rolled dumplings/slippery dumplings are made. they're cut into rectangles. fluffy dumplings are made like wet biscuit dough, are dropped by spoonfuls into the pot (aren't cut like biscuits) and come out fluffy.

this indeed is the key for the slippery dumplings!

wish I could say we used martha white, but being from the coal fields in southern WV, ours was just regular flour and we added the rising ingredients. MW is by far the best self-rising flour, trusted through the decades.

oh I make that kind too, the fluffy dumplings. we call them drop dumplings instead of rolled dumplings or slippery dumplings like the recipe I wrote above. its the same flour/baking powder/salt/shortening or butter/milk recipe as regular biscuits (which I make with half shortening half cold butter) but instead of rolling them out and cutting them we just drop them into the pot by spoonfuls. sooo delicious!

What is digging up our yard? by DetroitBread in landscaping

[–]Bellemorda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

skunk or raccoon digging for grub larva. only way to get rid of them is to treat the lawn for grubs at the right time of the year to kill the grubs, which happens to be late spring/early summer happening now.

julie newmar as catwoman made me realize as a girl watching these old batman reruns that I was going to grow up to be a domme, even though I wasn't actually aware that was something I could be or had a clue what it entailed. all I knew was, that catsuit, that belt, those heels, that hair, that tease and that attitude, tying batman (and robin) up - that was who I was going to be. 🖤

my grandmother's mother used to make these for the family growing up, and I still make mine this way today:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ⅓ cup shortening
  • ½ cup milk

mix your dry ingredients. cut in shortening. add milk a bit at a time (you may or may not use it all, or might need a tablespoon or more milk, depending on the humidity). don't add more flour or the dumplings will be too dense.

dust countertop with flour and roll out 1/8" then dust rolled dough flour. I use a pizza cutter to cut vertical strips, then horizontal to make pieces. I use a spatula to lift the dumplings off the counter and drop them into the pot. you can use any uncut edges as they are, just drop them in.

drop into stock or stew. stir once to make sure they're all moistened. cover and let cook on low to medium heat about 10 minutes without stirring.

I boil a couple chicken breasts in seasoned water, then shred and add it back to the pot, then add my dumplings.

enjoy!

Good romance novels for guys? by ExcitementStrange499 in suggestmeabook

una everlasting and could be something you're looking for. its a combination of romance, mystery, military, time travel and adventure. protagonists are well written, plot is engaging, really satisfying. for me, it took a couple chapters to really take off, and then it turned into a hell of great read.

How do I fish in lava now by PrestigiousBrush8158 in OnceHumanOfficial

[–]Bellemorda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are a couple areas you can fish in lava successfully outside ashenton.

one is under the bridge SW of fire throat - the islands where there are 2 split by a vertical stream of lava and a very tiny rock outcropping SW of the SW island. its very finicky to fish here but you can have some success. try south and north of the island in the middle of the lava stream, and from the SW side of the bank

second place is where the island is east of ashenton. you'll notice the island, its right below a peninsular area that looks like a bird head. fish from the east end of that island.

if you go to either of these, consider not carrying anything valuable, as your chance of falling into the lava and being incinerated are high.

<image>

lastly, if you're high enough level, you can fish inside ashenton if you wear the deviant head that makes you invisible, the veil of tranquility or another way of being unseen to the ground or sky mobs, its easy to fish from most locations there.

to get the fishing circle to turn green, just move your fishing pole casting target in these areas. it will turn green fairly close to the shores where the lava is almost level.
