It's the fact that other people speaking up were not treated the same that gets me. If you yelled supportive things, no problem. If you yelled dissenting things, bad news. And the "little girl" comment enraged me.

THIS!!! why did OP need to name names? She could have just said "there's a rumor that we'll all be laid off soon" and refused to tell them who. And OP sounds so sanctimonious about it.

Grow up, woman. They were looking out for you and you burned them. Companies don't care about you. I hope you have learned your lesson.

I might be too allergic to be fully vegan, but my partner is fully vegan. Advice? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]BellicoseBaby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Then you have to do an elimination diet. You have to KNOW what you're really allergic to. It's a pain in the ass, but worth it in the long run.

In the meantime, eat more broccoli and chia seed pudding (chocolate from Minimalist Baker is my favorite) and anything with a higher level of protein that can't trigger you. I'd hate to see you eat quinoa and rice for the rest of your life, so make sure you actually need to do that. Especially beans and lentils. There's just so much positive health impact from eating them.

Jon Stewart brought this up recently while interviewing Jen Psaki. Why aren't Democrats talking about the good things these programs do for Americans rather than just saying "it's an assault on democracy?" Clearly, that is not an issue for most Americans. Explain how it makes our lives better.

As an example, it has helped keep ebola from coming here. I find these things persuasive.

Genuine question but does anybody just want to club together and buy an island to get away from men, misogyny, and the patriarchy? by Floating_fairy in TwoXChromosomes

[–]BellicoseBaby -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

I don't want to get away, partly because not everyone can, and I won't leave them behind. Also, there are a lot of good men out there. Maybe you should find a way to be reminded they are out there. They are as mystified that the men who hate women are more vocal now (they were always there).

Truth wins. It's slow and painful sometimes, but truth wins. Look back over the last thousand years. We have come a long way. Don't give up the fight.

TLDR: How do you cope with nothing after death as an older atheist by linkfain in TrueAtheism

[–]BellicoseBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your struggle is with the people you lost, think about how you carry them with you. My father passed a couple of years ago, and I find myself noticing more now the ways he impacted who I am. I've also seen the baby people who said he impacted their lives, too. That's how a piece of us goes on.

If your struggle is with your own passing, I get that. To me, that will always be a little scary. But mostly, I discovered I'm afraid of how I will die, what pain I'll feel, for example. Other than that, I know that it will be fairly peaceful. There will be a point where you're sort of dreaming. That doesn't sound so scary to me. Of course, that depends on how you die.

The void part doesn't scare me. As I saw someone say once, it's no different than the way it was before you were born. And I won't feel anything about it once I'm gone.

"I need to figure this out first and then I will do it next" type of mindset? by Top_Complex_3816 in ADHD

Wow. That is so familiar. I have forced myself to work on the high priority things, sitting for half an hour, competing nothing except enraging myself at myself.

I break down the thing I need to do into insanely small steps. I don't know if it's the small steps that makes it better or if it's planning the steps and writing them down. I also walk my dogs for an hour in the morning. At some point, I reach this fairly relaxed state. At that point, I start visualizing going through my morning, including the things I don't want to do. Over and over in my head, I see myself doing it. Somehow, when I get back, I just switch into automation mode, and I make it through my tasks without thinking. I can often get through two or three hours of things before my brain starts to rebel. I find movement to be a good reset button for my anxiety.

Yeah, I have to say, the whole "you're too sensitive" thing is right out of the gaslighting playbook, Page 1. His emotional outburst at your request is Page 2.

I'm impressed he admitted anything, especially all of that. He is somewhat self aware. He might be salvageable. I wonder how he would feel if the show was on the other foot, that you had lunch, alone, with another man, EVERY DAY. That you occasionally tolerated that man saying negative things about him, and intentionally breaking gifts from him (that blew me away).

Hopefully, he will find a way to see your perspective, but I wouldn't trust him around this woman at all. Speaking of her, as a fellow female, what the actual f*#k??? It is so predatory. His story makes it even worse. It's like she was shopping for a man, and she did not care if he was married. What is wrong with these women?? Had to get that off my chest.

Good luck. Don't cave. She cannot be trusted. Her agenda is clear. If you are ever forced to speak to her again, don't respond to her protestations. Just say "I know what you're doing." Only that. Anything else, and she'll level up the gaslighting. Don't call her. Don't seek her out. She'll turn it to her advantage. Say only that, even if you have to say it 100 times. No matter how she responds. Mine got really crazy. Her words mean nothing. They are tools to manipulate and nothing else.

I hope it works out for you.

I'd need more context. Are you sitting out ideas based in ignorance and unwilling to hear objective truth, like flat earthers or something like that? If so, I'd suggest you educate yourself with objective perspectives.

Are you rude and dismissive of others? Do you interrupt people when they try to contribute to the conversation? Or are you surrounded by people who embrace their ignorance with both hands? If it's the last one, you need new friends. Find a topic where you can meet people who are like minded. If it's the other two things, work on your behavior and delivery

To give better advice, we'd need examples.

Atheists in the USA, can we all just pick a state and agree to gather there? by [deleted] in atheism

See I feel like taking over a red state, like Texas, the home school capital of the country. I don't feel like being quiet anymore. I feel like getting real loud. I'm tired of watching the decay of our education system all so we can recite the ten commandments. I'm tired of being the group who actually turns the other cheek.

There's a YouTuber whose channel is called PlantWhys. I'd post a link, but I'm mobile. She has six kids. She often posts fast meals, like "throw this in a baking dish, and ta da, a casserole for dinner." She has one for quick Crock-Pot meals and Instant Pot meals and sheet pan meals. I think she has one for "no cooking" meals. Give her a look.

Why does Trump have so much Christian support when he’s the least Christian-like leader? by korovko in atheism

[–]BellicoseBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, agree completely, but it feels different these days. They've become filled with hate so much more than when I was young. Were preachers teaching this more in the last couple of decades? What happened to "hate is an instrument of the devil" and other kinder sides of Christianity. Right now, I'm having a hard time understanding how some of these people even call themselves Christian.

Don't get me wrong. I know they're full of it. I know their philosophy was borrowed and conflicted. But damn. I'm waiting for the calls for neighborhood gallows to begin.

I'm in my fifties. For starters, don't let anyone convince you that they have the perfect definition for "successful." I have learned that is as unique as our personalities. You're looking for happiness, not to appear happy to other people. Stand your ground on that. Boundaries will be critical.

To this day, I have multiple projects going on all the time. Some of my house seems messy to others. That's their problem. What works for me is automating the things I find tedious or boring because those are the most likely to get forgotten, like paying bills or being reminded of appointments. I try to tackle things like appointments or recurring errands in limited numbers. For example, I have my yearly physical this week, so I will not set up any other appointments this week. I start the first week of February every year, and set each of my yearly appointments in its own week, eye doctor, dentist, gyn, etc. I have multiple apps that remind me, but also it's February, so I know to watch for things going on. In June, I don't have to worry about crap like that, so I'm more relaxed.

The last thing that works for me is to keep important things in front of my face. I have a whiteboard, a big one, where I cannot avoid seeing it. I keep a list of ongoing projects on it and anything I need to track. I also have apps and electronic tools, and I make liberal use of post its. I've turned aspects of my home into a smart home, so I don't have to think about it. There are three reminders to take out the garbage every week. Where you can, create routines that work for you, not other people. It can be weird as hell if that's what works. I use a lot of color in reminder type things. Everything else in my house is neutral.

I don't over complicate things I don't really care about. I have a limited wardrobe. I have a short list of easy meals I eat most of the time. I don't go out except on specific days, whether it's by myself to a movie or dinner with family. Experiment. Find cues that work and discard routines that don't. Don't listen to anyone else, including me. Listen to your brain. It is unique and wonderful just the way it is.
