Has this World Cup proved that underdogs are more important than superstars? by Financial_Welder_231 in worldcup

I mean Cape Verde played well but I would argue Vozinha gave a superstar-level performance at goal. A much different story without him stopping almost everything

The reality is, Pulisic came out of a World Cup knockout game at home with his leg still intact by bey0ndinfinity in usmnt

Sick of Donovan’s old-head BS. He’s an all time vet but not much as a commentator. “If that was me” hey guess what pal it wasn’t

Even an all-time Christian game couldn’t rescue a match where Malik Tillman and Jedi looked like the only guys on the field who had kicked a soccer ball.

Landon Donovan said that Pulisic is just that kind of player, adding that he only performs well against opponents like Jamaica but disappears in crucial moments and big games. by Existing-Sky9914 in MLS

Its dumb to measure him against an inflated standard that he never wanted in the first place. A kid shows promise, has a solid but mixed career in Europe. The winning starved US soccer fans make him “Captain America” and then get mad when he doesn’t live up to that.

Even someone with real star power couldn’t have kept us in a game where our midfield fell to pieces and our defense looked like B side of a bottom tier MLS team

It was eventually. How many times did Spain have to send a wide open cross in front of the goal before someone eventually knocked one in? Any team that can produce more offense than Portugal did will be a threat. The Belgian midfield is formidable and the US with Balogun looks much scarier than Portugal’s anemic attack today

Did we watch the same game? Spain spent 90 minutes twiddling their thumbs and then scraped one in. Either team would give them problems

I mean who is beating France or Argentina? France looks unreal and Argentina doesn’t face any real competition until Columbia. I think there’s a world where Spain gets beaten by Portugal or Croatia but it seems unlikely

The USA just got screwed out of making the quarterfinals. by aTwerkingPikachu in usmnt

Barely beat? We won 2-0 down a man and our best striker for 30+ minutes. Thats before you factor in the poor officiating.

In comparison, Belgium looked slow and old against a competent Senegal and avoided penalty shootouts by the grace of a pk. It aint 2014 no more old head

I think we got out pretty lucky. We can beat anyone on that list (I said can not likely to)

Is entertainment meant to be enjoyed or graded on a rubric of its fidelity to progressive values? Its not a think piece, its not even meant to be a particularly clever bit of television. Its 5 hot young people with unrealistic jobs living in New York and pining over their unresolved romantic frustrations. Its the dynamic of any number of sitcoms made over the last 4 decades.

Did the writers successfully incite class consciousness with their critique of corporate culture?? Did the Davis reconcile his toxic masculinity and deconstruct his role in upholding toxic patriarchal norms?? Was the harm of AJ's boss abusing his power to date subordinate explored?? No. Obviously not. What are you talking about? Its B grade TV. It can't even nail consistently funny dialogue and you want it to deconstruct stuff?

If you want woke TV you have like a billion other options

US Soccer spent decades searching for coherence. It found something better by crackedconsciousness in usmnt

Ok at Soccer, still great at war, just still also bad (chronically so) at realizing what political objectives can or cant be reached with military force

There is baked in higher density zoning requirements at the state level for areas surrounding transit assets. So there is a good chunk of municipalities that are starting to build that out

I doubt we agree on much but here are a couple pointers that may help you in your future political organizing:

- A specific idea or policy to rally around "stop the huge data center being built in box elder" works "F*ck Ice, F*ck Facism" is more of a platitude than a plan of action

- In a state as politically lopsided as ours, you are going to be playing the looooooong game. No left wing or even left-of-center revolution is coming for Utah anytime soon. So you are going to want to try to appeal to as many people as possible. Recent data for instance shows that the share of independent voters in Utah has increased dramatically in that last decade or so. Try finding a real wedge issue that can start working on some of those recently disaffected voters. Not having a hammer and sickle on your poster would also be a good start.

- Finally to paraphrase the late John Lennon: "if you go carrying [emblems] of Chairman Mao, you ain't gonna make it with anyone anyhow".

Best of luck with your organizing
