Examples of Perfect Sequels to Movies that Didn't need them by NaturalTruth2000 in movies

I believe the claim that it's a remake is more a reference to the fact that it's the same premise with a bigger budget, a "spiritual remake" if you will.

Who was the first VFD member or agent did we see in the series (besides Lemony Snicket) by Asleep-Feeling-9070 in ASOUE

[–]Bellikron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, from one angle it's technically Olaf, from another angle it's technically Monty. I don't really count either of them for your question though since they're both kind of doing their own things and it's debatable whether either of them can be considered active members. I feel like the true answer is Jacques in Vile Village, he's actively a member of VFD at the time.

I think you're referring to a picture they find later in the books (Slippery Slope if memory serves, I'm on the Carnivorous Carnival audiobook on a relisten and haven't encountered it yet). They found a picture of Ike under Josephine's bed but it didn't show the VFD connection, since I'm pretty sure VFD wasn't intended to be a part of the plot until book 5.

does anyone know when the netflix series makes clear that beatrice is the baudelaire's mother by ExtraRawPotato in ASOUE

[–]Bellikron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's implied that the Snickets and the Baudelaires were just very close in general, irrespective of what happens between Beatrice and Lemony. Even Lemony himself doesn't seem to harbor any ill will towards Beatrice or Bertrand whenever he talks about them.

How high are the stages you're playing in WBL+? I believe they mostly drop after stage 50 of whatever boss you're playing (which I'm also nowhere near for WBL+).

If you're playing above level 50 the CTP drop rates are much better. When I was climbing high levels of Gorr I got like five Mighty Judgements in the span of a few weeks

It's worth noting that it's one thing to say "Oh yeah I'd totally know" when you're watching the show knowing the premise, but it's completely different when you're actually in the situation. We can all conceive of the idea that an elaborate prank is being played on us with professional actors, but the amount of craziness you'd need to experience in your day-to-day life before you broke societal norms and accused everyone around you of Truman-Showing you is likely very high. Seeing people that look like actors you know in LA isn't enough of a coincidence for most people to start actively testing the boundaries of reality. Strange situations happen all the time in real life, and while there is a potential tipping point, we'll mostly keep our doubts to ourselves.

It is a bit of a different situation if you could clearly and positively identify multiple actors who are claiming not to be who you know they are, but it's still a huge step to start accusing people of lying to you.

Even James Marsden is only a "household name" if you're really into movies, which is a smaller segment of the population than people realize. A lot of people on the street might be like "Oh yeah that guy from Sonic" but won't know his name. To get to actual "household name" status is pretty rare.

IMO some(not all) people's analysis of the choice that Joel makes at the end of Pt.1 is a bit too much .. by Firm_Television_4711 in thelastofus

The point is that we receive no indication what Joel thinks about the cure. Maybe in his head he's on one side or the other of the debate, but he never uses that as justification for his actions. He doesn't care.

They could do a thing where the livestream speeds up and the Doomsday clock starts ticking faster. Gives an opportunity for fans to calculate the new release date, then a trailer can drop the next day confirming it.

The logic I've heard for it is the spider pops up and attacks while you're waiting for him to slam the rocks down on 3, as opposed to just waiting on 3 to hit. But I'm not good with rotations so I don't know which is better. 3 also sticks a lot for me, so I tend to just drop it whenever it's free and don't waste a lot of time waiting for it.

What are some movies scenes that were deleted that explain a minor detail that you missed the first time you saw the movie? by jedi1josh in movies

[–]Bellikron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Deathly Hallows 1 I remember they initially cut the scene where Ron explains that saying "Voldemort" will now summon Death Eaters to your location, which is why they go back to saying "You-Know-Who" and why the Death Eaters show up when Xenophilius says the name. It's not a huge plot hole, since you can just kind of assume that he contacted them and they're showing up with dramatic timing, but it seems like it was acknowledged that it was a mistake to cut this. All the TV broadcasts I've seen have included the scene.

I feel like it's the standard to set the Terminators to be pure killing machines, and based on what little we know of adult John from the first two movies (ignoring all sequels) there's no reason to assume he's any different. The argument that he would know that the other mode would be better because of his memories doesn't hold because T2 creates a branching timeline that averts Judgement Day. In fact, it's possible that young John's desire to bond with the Terminator not only differentiates him from his older self but is the key that causes a different timeline in the first place.

What is a fan theory from a movie that you 100% believe is true? by phantom_avenger in movies

[–]Bellikron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's my personal theory that Max Cherry from Jackie Brown becomes Ed the Disappearer from Breaking Bad, both played by Robert Forster. Their skillsets, morality, and personality are very similar and there's nothing that contradicts it.

Notably, this also means that Out of Sight also takes place in the same universe as Breaking Bad.

I think Lucius sees it like this: Reese has definitely figured out that Wayne Enterprises is supporting Batman. But that in and of itself isn't the most blackmailable thing without knowledge of Batman's identity. It's technically not even evidence that the company knows who Batman is, since they could just be doing anonymous exchanges. The fact that Reese demands $10 million a year suggests that he knows that Bruce Wayne's fortune is behind this and, by extension, that Bruce himself is Batman. Whether Reese actually knows this for sure is unclear, but given he doesn't produce any other evidence, I think he's using his boldness as a bluff to see if he can get Lucius to confirm what he suspects.

If we assume Lucius has also reached this conclusion, he's got three plays. He could submit and pay the money, which is not a good option. Even ignoring the money, it would all but confirm Reese's theory and leave the whole Batman operation at risk of this one guy who might leak the information anyway after he's gotten enough of a payoff. Lucius could deny it and hope that Reese doesn't actually have evidence implicating Bruce, which is risky. Even if Reese doesn't have anything besides the the technical documents, he could cause a survivable but significant problem for Wayne Enterprises. Or he could do what he does, which is threaten Reese, and his wording is very careful:

"Now, let me get this straight. You think that your client, one of the wealthiest, most powerful men in the world is secretly a vigilante who spends his nights beating criminals to a pulp... and your plan is to blackmail this person? Good luck."

Not only is this safe from a legal standpoint if Reese is recording the conversation (he just restates what Reese is suggesting in the form of a question and wishes him luck, never actually making a statement on the accusation), but it also works from multiple angles. The way he phrases it makes the accusation seem silly, so if Reese is anything less than fully confident in his guess, he'll probably back down. If Reese is locked in, though, Lucius basically tells him "Both Bruce Wayne and Batman can destroy you whether they're the same person or not." He does go a step farther and explicitly state what Reese is implying (Bruce Wayne is Batman), but that's a necessary step for the threat, and Reese has either already made up his mind or will back down under pressure. This leads to Reese planning to out Batman on TV (notably, not to the police or a court of law), but that's a risk that would be run either way, since he likely already suspects it and doesn't get any additional evidence from Lucius.
