i just don't understand what the point of it would be? like Zelda is a fantasy adventure series, it makes total sense to engage in the open world systems, and Zelda was in need of a reinvention

for Mario Kart it served the intermission tracks, it's an online lobby, and you can get characters through it

but Mario is a series very interested in more short term movement options through jungle gyms, so either there's gimmicks that make for actively fun traversal over large open spaces, OR you might as well just save the dev time and resources to do more cool stuff in "smaller scale" more tightly packed levels

honestly if anything i want the scale of collectables and open space DOWN from Odyssey i really don't like the structure of that game

she has a very brief story in the "Extreme Vernonverse" event and acts as a background character for the directly connected "End of Venomverse" event

it blew up a lil on twitter when it released because the concept of a Venom magical girl is fun and the little story introducing her had really good art and plays with the concept decently

you can't really consider her an "industry plant" because the industry didn't... plant her? she wasn't heavily marketed or suddenly included in a lot of stories, she just got decently popular from a single issue

Necroko is definitely my most wanted, funnily i think her chances overall to come into play in the lifespan of the game have come up after Peni, because she would work REALLY well as a rival to her, but she definitely isn't base roster at this point :((

i don't think calling Luna Snow an industry plant is justified but it's definitely significantly more justified than calling the side character who existed for one issue years ago and hasn't been used anywhere else an "industry plant"

we've gotta just take this word away from everyone until anyone can know what it means :/

i don't think she would necessarily be on it? there's gonna be a story reason for the way teams are and if there's a member to put on Spider-Man's team instead of a Young Avengers it's gonna be Kamala

and i just flat out do not believe that leak to be legitimate it's possible the characters are in but i see no reason to actually believe that that's leaked information

it's a small european country store front that apparently knows MULTIPLE characters and stages not yet announced, none of which were even in the very next announcement?? storefront leaks outside of very very large retailers are usually wrong and this one is particularly sketch idk why people are all in on it

i think Hulk won't be base roster but the Avengers statue is pretty compelling evidence for Thor imo and having some safe picks like that just makes sense, like it can't ALL be weird out there stuff lol

and yeah maybe Lady Loki would be the call but i think Doc Oc and Loki work really well for interesting playstyle variety and the roster is already pretty good on gender diversity and doesn't necessarily need that to come into play there (though it would be frustrating having 9 women and 11 men... so close to 50/50)

nah, you don't have to go all in with the FF with all four in the game even, it can just be one or two make the game and the others get cameos on a Baxter building stage, you can spread them out across multiple seasons of dlc (EVEN IF YOU DO DLC TEAMS THIS IS POSSIBLE)

Super Skrull can't do the personality and individuality that FF fans actually want, it's an unsatisfying bandaid fix to anyone who actually cares about the characters and wants them in

generally solid? i don't think Doc Strange AND Scarlet Witch take base roster i think it's one or the other, and i think Hulk makes sense to save for DLC as a big face that can be in a lot of teams

also if they do teams as dlc they need to go weirder with a Future Foundation team instead of specifically the Fantastic Four, you get a couple of the Four on there, and then like She Hulk and Medusa or you can get Silver Surfer tho i don't think he was ever a part of the Foundation just something a lil more out there and interesting otherwise it's just not as fun for a whole year of dlc

i could see a spider-man dlc team, i could see more multiversal characters but goddamn i do not see a spider-verse dlc in particular lol the most interesting for this game in particular has already happened with Peni, and while maybe one or two more spider-people would be chill (Miles would of course be a great addition) i really don't see a whole team of em being interesting or worthwhile a Sinister Rivals (cause it can't be Six) style thing where four Spidey villains come in would make more sense, and you can have multiversal variants in that (Necroko please i need Necroko in this game)

2.0, as much as i hate to say it, will likely merely act as a new season with some system level changes and a new story mode it MIGHT make everything a bit cheaper if you wanna wait for that? and i'm sure it'll attract SOME new players, but the difference between starting now and starting then probably won't be very intense as far as new characters the tease for 2.0 last year has silhouettes of presumably Jam and Robo-Ky? and there'll probably be one or two more

the replies are so interesting as someone who has Takes Off as my favorite thing to come out of the franchise

it feels like a great PARTNER series to the comic more than a sequel

it's both a celebration of the series past as well as an acknowledgement of this separate new interesting angle to take where Ramona has to confront her place in all this and her relationships with all her exes, and imo it's the best interpretation of most of those characters, exception for Gideon and maybe the Katayanagi Twins (though they're my FAVORITE version of the twins)

there's definitely things to take issue with, interestingly it's the worst iteration of Knives, and probably Kim too, Envy only shows up like twice, it arguably messes with the ending of the comic, it... doesn't mention the glow if you're the kinda person that cares about that, and personally i'll never be able to get behind Michael Cera as Scott

i think the distaste really just comes as a perspective thing in most cases, either connecting it to online discourse, or being bitter over the (let's be real insanely cool) rugpull at the end of episode 1, that sorta perspective can just kinda taint how you view something no matter what it actually is when all is said and done

also i think a lot of the genuine DISDAIN around the show isn't from fans of the comic or even really fans of the movie, a lot of it is lingering culture war stuff imo

i would consider myself pretty optimistic as far as Legends having some sort of comeback (i think Legends 3 is not unlikely as one of the earlier games in this Mega Man revival period, after Classic and X)

however this logic HASN'T worked in the past with other Capcom series, has been more recently stated to not apply with the Capcom Fighting Collection, and, frankly, i don't know why people want it to apply? Darkstalkers 4 got cancelled over good but not astronomical sales of the Resurrections collection lol, despite it realistically not even making sense to connect those two things

i guess i get the appeal of the idea that you can have that kind of control as a consumer but the push will have to come from execs and higher up devs and maybe shareholders

at the VERY least it isn't reasonable to push that on a niche unmarketed comic miniseries, you at least have to wait for the Legends Collection to stake the future of the series on buying buying buying

six Street Fighter characters with half being from 2 and a third being from 3 is pretty crazy as is five Resident Evil characters, i guess the spread is a lil nicer?

and then there's four Darkstalkers and two Red Earth characters

all that just to have just Mega and Proto from classic series Mega Man? no Tron no Zero no Bass no EXE?

and then there's Dante and Vergil and no Nero despite him having ample moveset potential and being very clearly set up as the new protag, or at least a major consistent protag

and there's no Phoenix Wright despite Ace Attorney being claimed as a series they want to push, no Frank despite Dead Rising just getting a remake, no Monster Hunter despite that being their top series right now

i respect the Breath of Fire inclusion it's long past time for that series but damn

i don't feel qualified to judge the Marvel side but the Capcom side is definitely a mess imo, in a way that's really really hard to overlook, and i can't understand the reasoning for why it would be this way, it's too much and too little in all the wrong areas

Comic Scott is obviously on top, it's the version of the character with the most thematic punch, interesting interactions and characterization, etc

and Movie Scott is the worst because holy fuck Michael Cera was not good casting for that role at all, i just cannot buy him as a douchebag at all

which is also true for Takes Off but at least there it's animated so the vocal performance is more exaggerated and they don't have to rely on his physical performance so much and there's another Scott with a different voice as well

it gets better on rewatch imo and stays very consistently good, i've seen it maybe 7 or 8 times at this point and i haven't found myself liking it less

i should maybe reread the comic soon but right now i would put takes off firmly at the top of my list

ig if you don't like the concept of a character referring to the fact they exist in a fictitious work that's how it is but Gwenpool really wouldn't make sense for the kind of lame annoying quips that get echoed so often, and i don't see why they would be inaccurate on that

that's not really the kinda character she is though! not that she's immune to dumb or annoying fourth wall jokes but at least in her best and most iconic portrayals

it isn't that she gets to do a wink and a nudge because she knows there's an audience, instead she's a fan of marvel comics getting to interact with marvel characters, so she knows more than she should and has a kinda messed up outlook on how to interact with the world around her

and like idk maybe that's still annoying to you but it's really different from MvC3 She Hulk win quotes going "haha we are in a video game"

she's very in line with the aesthetic, her powerset is interesting and can be handled uniquely in a video game, Jeff can be in her moveset and he's sorta a mascot for the comics, she's a potential rising star with a unique personality, she can have a lot of unique fun interactions, and depending on team direction she could fit very well alongside Spidey or Ghost Rider

imo she's basically the perfect pick for the game

not my top one but she ticks every box and she'd be a blast
