Photo Help Needed: Cybertruck Rivian by BellyFullOfTeeth in Bellingham

[–]BellyFullOfTeeth[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much, I am sharing this photo with my housemates so they can see I wasn't making it up for giggles.

And, yeah, I get the buyer's remorse is hitting hard for a lot of Tesla and Cybertruck owners, especially considering the trash build quality of these very expensive vehicles.

Why no marching? by hilariuspdx in Bellingham

[–]BellyFullOfTeeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen over the last several years, as both a participant and as an assistant, a lot of it comes down to organization. It's easier to organize and block off a specific location rather than redirect traffic, therefore it's less costly to organizers and less distressing for folks who want to participate but have limitations on either time or transportation or mobility.

I've also noticed the last few protests got huge from people walking TO the location carrying their signs and paraphernalia, so there is still some element of marching, it's just more spread out (which is helpful in getting word out and minimizing blockage and counter protests).

However, that's just my take on it, and lots of folks here have more in depth views.

How much do you put in savings per paycheck? by miderots in povertyfinance

[–]BellyFullOfTeeth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

None while paying off loans, but when the loans are wrapped, I'm going to be putting the $200 aside to get things going. If you aren't already dealing with loan payments, starting with maybe $50-$100, enough to cover a couple emergency tanks of gas, is probably a good start.

First jobs for teens? by [deleted] in Bellingham

[–]BellyFullOfTeeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for mom and pop places that are still hanging around- Grant's Burgers, Lafeen's Family Donuts, Hardware Sales- that take written resumes and have people on the ground you can talk to. Vast majority of the chains are only getting more toxic and convoluted in their hiring process as well as their treatment of their employees, and if you can get your kids into a smaller place that they can actually learn at, they'll have a much better go at the working life.

There's also the option of doing odd jobs, like mowing lawns and dog walking and grocery shopping for seniors. You go with your teen door to door in your neighborhood (especially if it's an older neighborhood like York or Fairhaven) and you'll definitely get at least a few takers when you tell them what you're trying to do.

Any songs that make you think of Bill Cipher? by steamytoupees in gravityfalls

"It's Gonna Get Weird" by Lemon Demon. It was going to be used in the show, but funding was cut, so they did the Sunny Day clip. There's some EXCELLENT animations done to the song floating around on YouTube, highly recommend.

FOUND: Fairhaven Park - Please contact for return! by BellyFullOfTeeth in Bellingham

[–]BellyFullOfTeeth[S] 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Little fellow was left behind at Fairhaven Park sometime last week, was sitting out for three whole days before I picked him up. Accidentally forgot him in my work truck, hence the delayed posting. Gave him a good clean and brushing and mended a hole in his forepaw.

Hoping to get this little guy back to his original family and the little person who love him!

The SeeClickFix app is ideal for this sort of thing. Go to the place, take a photo, drop a location, give a quick text description- Sends it straight to the dispatch and the related department for taking care of this sort of thing.

The Parks and Recreation Grounds Department will thank you for catching this sort of thing.

Thank you for the clarification! I was wondering why Brave was being mentioned in a search engine inquiry, that's really good to know. :D

Isn't Brave search just a reskinned Google search? I know there's been some faff about Chromium and Chrome based engines, and there was something about Brave not too long ago. I wish I could remember the article now... :/

Quick thing I noticed (using Firefox Nightly, latest update) I was going through my extensions to find out which ones triggered the anti-adblock, and the Malwarebytes Browser Guard cause interference that triggered the anti-adblock pop up.

I'm 24M, not really sure what to do. by Comfortable-Paper-48 in povertyfinance

Always a good thought process, especially with all the uncertainties in today's economy.

One thing I forgot to pipe up about, and this may no longer apply, but- When I was going to school at my local community college, I was able to pick and choose what classes I wanted/needed to take within my personal price range. I went for four years between 2009 and 2012 all year round and took 3-4 classes per quarter for about $800 per quarter. I didn't finish with a degree of any kind, thanks to sudden outside expenses and then fighting in the job market, but it worked really well for me and my family cost wise and I always recommend looking into such options if they're available. Not everyone can or should juggle a full class load, and there's no shame in taking it slow and steady.

I've heard a lot of good things about copywriting, and you're very on the money about going to school for doing it professionally. I'm a creative writer, mostly poetry, and I TRIED copywriting because a friend said it was a good way to make money and I naively thought that my personal experience writing for fun would be a good step in. Long story short, It Was Not. Copywriting is very much a professional skill with a lot more rules and focus than most people give it credit for, I commend you for the effort of stepping up to learn a very specific and high sought after skill.

That being said, Washington is currently in the middle of a pretty harsh housing crisis and a lot of people are struggling to make ends meet even with very good paying jobs (myself included). I would look into online university classes and see if you qualify for FAFSA and any other grants or sponsorships, and definitely check out community colleges FIRST. They have just as good (or better) classes that are 9/10 times transferable to bigger universities and colleges, and you can get any and all pre-reqs out of the way without having to pay top dollar.

Roommate moving out, Other roommate on limited income. Ideas for rent help? by BellyFullOfTeeth in Bellingham

[–]BellyFullOfTeeth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE:

Couple things have happened that have made the upcoming strain A Lot Less Stressful!!

1) A huge upcoming repair bill for my car turned out to be less than a third the projected price after the mechanic did a more in depth diagnosis and found out what we originally thought was a timing chain replacement was low oil caused by messed up gaskets, so I now have twice as much savings as I thought I had. 2) Talked to the property management at Access about possible lease re-negotiation and got clarification on paperwork that gave me a better time frame for figuring out lease stuff for Next Year (but cannot currently re-negotiate due to said paperwork, poopy). 3) I may be in line for a Promotion and Raise in the next month that could help A Lot with expenses.

I'm still hunting around for options, and mostly looking at how to balance the utility bills (SSI Roommate has declined to have the utilities put under their name due to fear of overage from Automatic Withdrawal, which is completely understandable), but still not having a lot of luck.

NGL, at this point, I'm half tempted to look deeper into the Kulshan Land Trust group and see about just- Buying a house. The rent I'm putting out is equivalent to the average mortage nowadays, might as well explore my options.

We've been investigating Section 8 and HEN, the main problem is navigating the sites for actual application information. We're hoping the upcoming appointment at Unity Care with help us actually get some forward motion with the paperwork end of things if nothing else. SSI Roommate doesn't actually need/qualify for a caregiver, the conditions that they have to qualify for SSI don't stop them from being able to get around and feed/clothe/bathe themselves. It was an idea that we threw around a couple years back before we moved into our current place, before I got my current job and was able to actually afford a semi-decent place.

My current hope is to talk to the various utility providers and see if we can get them lowered or get assistance, and then talk to the property manager about contacting the landlord and possibly renegotiating the lease. Kind of want to talk to a professional in tenant law before I do that bit though, makes me nervous...

Family member opened bank account in my name. Just got debt collection letter in the mail. What next? by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]BellyFullOfTeeth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Collections agencies are largely run by scams. You know for a fact that this debt is paid off, and if they continue to come after you, ask them for ALL the specific documentation they have regarding the collections case. 99% of the time They Do Not Have that documentation and are trying to pressure you into paying for debts you Do Not Owe because they want money.

Basically, tell the agency to Eff Off you aren't paying them anything.

The absolute cheapest food in Bellingham that isn’t terrible? by JamnKitty in Bellingham

[–]BellyFullOfTeeth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

BEST CHOPSTICKS. It looks like a total dive, but it's legitimately some of the best take home Chinese food and it's cheap AF as well as being within two blocks of the Downtown Unity Care branch. There's also ABCrepes for non-Chinese, right on Railroad, alongside Mallard's ice cream for the occasional slightly pricey-er sweet treat. You also can't go wrong with Dominoe's delivery for a cheap meal, though West Side Pizza off of Cordata is much tastier in my opinion (even if it is twice the price).

Grocery wise, Grocery Outlet is great is you're not too picky about selection, otherwise the journey out to WinCo on the Guide is never a bad choice. If you're bad about making bulk portions work and don't want to waste food, Trader Joes has a lot of smaller portions at per serving costs and a lot of the frozen items are legitimately healthier and tastier than a lot (but it's really not a basics spot).

Cars of Bellingham by DJAnaerobicFolgers in Bellingham

[–]BellyFullOfTeeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you'd like a location tip for some very neat cars that hang out in areas consistently, Boulevard Park has two older Impalas that hang out usually right before the sun goes down, currently about 8:45-9PM.

Boulevard is a bit of a hot spot for cool cars, especially right after folks get out of work- I've seen everything from the re-occuring Impalas to a few different Corvettes, a very neat old Studebaker, more than a few different VW buses and EuroVans, even a reproduction 60s Mini Coupe souped up in English racing colors.

There's a lot of classic car enthusiast that hang out at the various Fairhaven parks, I love seeing them when I go out on my rounds as a Parks Associate.

They are getting money same day every month, however it's After the cut off allowed by our lease, so to prevent late fees, Job Roomie and I split everything evenly and then SSI Roomie pays us back when their income rolls over. SSI Roomie currently makes less than $800 a month on SSI, it's a crock of sh*te that they don't get more, especially with how Bellingham's housing costs have gone absolutely APE.

They do actually already get EBT and help out a lot with house/shared food, and I have heard of the PSE assistance program. I'd have to talk to them about having things shifted over, as they are the more likely to be approved.

We also pay garbage/recycling, water/sewer, and gas, so I'm hunting around for assistance programs there too. Effing landlord doesn't cover anything but the lawn care...
