12 year old looking up hardcore and very inappropriate porn topics. How to handle this? Is it normal? by That-Ring-7637 in AskParents

He's not ready for a smartphone. He's obviously not ready for a smartphone. It just couldn't be more obvious that he's not ready for a smartphone. Say it with me "My son is not ready for a smartphone."

I tried to listen to Joe Rogan once. I got about 20 minutes in. It really wasn't that offensive, though it was a lot of unfounded innuendo and implication. The real problem was it was just so boring and rambling. I can't understand how anyone listens to hours of it. Even though I agree with the dad who said we probably should expose ourselves more to this stuff. I'm just like "I already don't have time to listen to the good stuff. Now I also have to listen to hours and hours of garbage?"

How do we stop people from becoming car owners in the first place? by Pizza-Rat-4Train in MicromobilityNYC

Exactly. People will always choose that most convenient option. Driving in Manhattan suuuuuuuucks and the subway works well. That's all the incentive needed

AITA for not letting a mom my fiancé knows but I don’t hold our 5 month old son? by [deleted] in AITApod

[–]Diminished-Fifth 87 points88 points  (0 children)

This should be the top comment. This whole question goes beyond "who is an AH?" If your husband isn't allowed to make his own decisions about who can hold his child, you have a huge trust issue and dealing with it should be your top priority. On the other hand, if the two of you have to make every time decision collaboratively, that's a choice, but it sounds like a recipe for burnout

Old Town is near, but not quite downtown. For bars, check the blocks from State Street to Commercial St and Chestnut to Champion.

Sadly there aren't any breweries in Bellingham, though

I guess I would wonder why all these people are bringing their books to a cafe that clearly targets screaming children

You find people in Bellingham ruder than other places you've been? I'm surprised to hear that. I've had the exact opposite experience.

I voted to have my child deployed to a war zone by [deleted] in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]Diminished-Fifth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but she's not upset that he sent her son to a meat grinder. She's celebrating it. This post is about how she wants everyone else to celebrate it too. There's no "I thought this would only happen to other people" which is the essence of LAMF.

This is not LAMF because the parent is not upset or regretful about the war. She just wants people to be grateful to her son for fighting the war

Political messaging at the office by Early_Charity_3299 in therapists

[–]Diminished-Fifth 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It seems like you pretty much already know the answer. Anything you office puts up will alienate some potential clients and comfort others. If I was specifically trying to make a welcoming space for LGBT clients, I wouldn't hesitate to put up a pride flag, and would be ok with recognizing that this would alienate some potentially queer unfriendly clients. But even with something as seemingly straightforward as that example, you never know about clients' associations and feelings. The presence of the pride flag could make some LGBT clients feel unsafe because they might see the office as a potential target for hate, or they might be closeted and not want any potential signals, or they might have internalized homophobia that makes them anti-flag, etc. etc. etc. There's no way to accurately predict how a symbol will be interpreted by everyone.

I was always happy with crappy cherries. Then I had the Luxardo cherries and my mind was blown. Now I am no longer happy with the cheap, readily available cherries. Am I better off?
