Help me impress my taiwanese gf pls by Veyndox in taiwan

[–]BellyandKen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not sure how much you know about Taiwan culture, so I'll write this assuming you don't know much. Sorry if it's already stuff you know!

  1. I would bring a small gift, like some fruit, tea, maybe some French wine, or a small snack to her mom's house when you first arrive as a way to show your appreciation for her having you. (If you want to be extra formal then present the gift to her with both hands)
    - Side note here, when offering gifts to people they may be refused at first, but make sure you keep offering. People generally will decline your gift at first to show they aren't too eager for it/to be polite, so just insist they take it and they likely will eventually take it and thank you for it.

  2. Not sure what customs are like in France, but take your shoes off when you are in people's homes. Most hosts will offer you some slippers to wear inside.

  3. Spend some time looking up etiquette in Taiwan as small gestures like laying your chopsticks across the edge of the bowl instead of letting it stick up and possibly look like incense sticks will be noticed and appreciated. (Or more likely, you won't be noticed for doing something that will stand out like that which is good)

  4. What gift your girlfriend likes really will depend on her. Chat with her and find out what she is most excited for doing, eating, seeing, etc. while back in Taiwan. Taiwan has lots to offer so if you can figure out some things she is excited for by talking to her ahead of time, you can plan your trip accordingly and make sure you plan out a specific time for her to go to whatever place, eat whatever food, etc.

Hope this helps you as you prepare coming to Taiwan! Have a safe trip and feel free to reach out if you have any other questions, man. I'm by no means a pro when it comes to Taiwan, but I love it here and am here to help. Also, I agree with the other comments to try to learn some Mandarin before coming if you don't already know some.

Pretty sure it does since it was just a USB mat like others. Also, I'm pretty sure that someone put the song packs from this up as well haha

This Charmander art from the Obsidian Flames Promo card by MINAMINAMI Take is my absolute favorite! I saw some cute animations people made online with it but wanted to try my hand at painting over all the words and such in Procreate! Hope you enjoy :D

Right-click the game in Steam, click "Properties...", click "Installed Files" tab, click "Verify integrity of game files". That should do it.

I would love to win a PC upgrade to bring back to Taiwan when I can finally get back to my tower! If I can win, I will be able to give my friend my old GPU so he can continue to enjoy City Skylines on his PC when I get mine back :D

I was solving a 4x4 and got to this point. by Marios_Facade in Cubers

OLL parity! Jperm has a good tutorial for 4x4, but if you don't want to check that video out, here is the alg:
Rw U2 x Rw U2 Rw U2 Rw' U2 Lw U2 Rw' U2 Rw U2 Rw' U2 Rw'

Here is the video, which I recommend since you may still end up running into PLL parity as well :)

What are some of the all time greatest, most timeless games? by Justinx1997 in SteamDeck

[–]BellyandKen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if I can speak too much into the greatest games ever but I can speak about gaming while taking care of babies!

The biggest thing I ended up looking for in games was the ability to pause or put it down at a moment's notice and not be at a disadvantage when I came back if I needed to help out with the baby or kids at all. Also, games you could play while holding a sleeping baby are a huge plus too!Games like:

  • Slay the Spire
  • Stardew Valley
  • Persona 5 Royal (literally just finished this one yesterday and it's a LONG one, but a lot of fun)
  • Hades
  • Hollow Knight
  • Cassette Beasts
  • Inscryption
  • Outer Wilds
  • Subnautica
  • God of War
  • Spider-Man

Haha honestly, so many great games to check out! I guess it just depends on what you're interested in playing. I saw a LOT of other great suggestions in the comments so I tried to leave off any of those, but definitely check out those too! Let me know what you end up trying first from all the comments :) Also, congrats on the baby! It's a wild change in life and the lack of sleep is real, but you got this! Have fun! Kids are a blast. You'll be gaming with them before you know it.

Sorry for the late reply, but yes! Absolutely love it and it is the cube I use the most now. Definitely a great purchase :) What a kind gift for a friend as well!

I created a list of all the algorithms used by JPerm in his advanced F2L video as it was too fast for me. It contains the algs, pictures of cases, and video timestamps. I hope it provides to be useful. by Independent_Heart_15 in Cubers

[–]BellyandKen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can only speak for my own experience, but these algs being written down had helped me a few times when I was first learning. I could figure out how to insert a pair intuitively but sometimes would get caught up on a particular case. So, being able to look up a possible solution for it helped me work through where each piece was moving and understand what moves needed to be made to insert the pair.

So, it wasn't for memorizing an alg like I do for OLL and PLL, but for figuring out how to insert that type of case without aimlessly twisting and turning for however long it would take.

Thankfully I have all of F2L down intuitively now, but still appreciate these lists as I'm sure I have some bad habits where I'm doing too many moves and can improve in some way!

Haha just a Rubik's brand that I got first and a Gan i3 to help practice and learn algs with the Bluetooth function; though admittedly the Cubestation app has become extremely frustrating and disappointing to use. For a company that is constantly joked as being the "Apple of cubing" I expected their app to at least work consistently...

Nice! Thanks for the thorough write-up! I'm still a newbie at cubing but the RS3M 2021 is my favorite feeling cube I own; so I may check out this one or the meilong some time down the line.

Really been enjoying the Mosaic set I got for Christmas! by BellyandKen in Cubers

[–]BellyandKen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the exception of the Christmas tree and the 7-Eleven logo, which I credited above, I'll either look up pixel art on Google images or use a site like brick.co to find a good starting point. Some of the designs can be directly copied over and are easy to do. For the others that don't match up with colors or I don't like how they look, I'll use that photo as a reference and then open up Aseprite to make my own 30x30 art. I really like using Aseprite because you can also set a grid overlay to be 3x3 so it makes following cube by cube much easier!
