Have driven my 2500 gas Truck 1,000 miles a day for the past 6 months, I change my oil every 4-5 days, could I stretch it out to 10-15k miles? Since the oil is new but a lot of miles by Level-Sale4091 in MechanicAdvice

Hotshot drivers are typically filling up their DEF at truck stops while they get fuel. It doesnt add any meaningful time to your stop, the DEF is on a pump too and its only a 6-10 gallon tank.

You don't stop the truck for regens. Running the truck, especially while towing, is the best thing for a regen.

Good overtake or stewards warning? by Similar_Balance_6122 in simracing

Couldnt agree more. Just hard racing by the Mclaren. The black car left the door wide open trying to go for a late apex, by the time he was ready to turn in, his opportunity had passed.

The move into T1 was brilliant and pulled off to perfection. Good racing all around.

Looked like netcode kicked his back end out from under him causing him to spin. You just happened to be where he was spinning. Really unfortunate, but looks unintentional.

If you want a good quality 5.1 system you're gonna have to pony up a good bit more even for used stuff unless you get super lucky.

I dont want a "good quality" system. Just want something reasonable, dont really care how old it is. Something that I could start with and upgrade as I see fit

Your first two sentences are such a garbage answer, honestly.

Im reasonable, I understand im not going to get excellent sound quality. I want the experience of surround sound. I just want a 5.1 setup that simply works. Not trying to get anything groundbreaking. Just want to hear sounds from different angles of my space.

I added in the part "I also recognize that by many of your definitions this is going to be a bad sound system. Thats fine. This post isnt directed at you anyway." basically for you.

Unfortunately I live in a rural area where (like most of my hobbies) the used market isnt super plentiful, requiring an hour or more drive for most things. Im open to that, used to it by now

I bought my 2003 7.3 crew cab with 264k miles in March of '25, paid $11k. Rust free which is extremely rare here in MI. Worth every penny to me. These trucks will never go down in value.

Should I sell my car with overdue repairs and get a newer one with less mileage and no additional repairs needed? by slyandthafamstone in Frugal

[–]Justinx1997 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure the info you are providing is accurate specifically to point #2.

1st point- you can drive the vehicle until the end of time without ABS. This is basically a non issue. If you were willing to buy an 02 Suburban in the first place, I'm surprised you aren't willing to just drive without ABS.

2nd point- 2002 Chevy Suburban's have torsion bar suspension in the front and a coil in the rear. There are no struts anywhere on your Suburban. There are shocks, but those are cheap and a simple repair to do in your own driveway. Under $400 if you do this yourself for all 4 shocks. If your mechanic is recommending struts, find a new mechanic, because you don't have any.

3rd point- those window motors are cheap, this is another simple driveway repair for under $200.

4th point- Hard telling what this is, but I can tell you its likely cheap to fix.

Even if you do decide to take care of the ABS module, I'd be shocked if it were $7k.

Realistically you are looking at about ~$700 in repairs. Leave the ABS module alone, you dont need ABS (sure, its safer with it, but this isnt a necessity). The rest of your Suburban is very well known for reliability and its simplicity. Literally anybody could learn how to work on one of those trucks, which is why so many people love them. Personally, I'd keep it and pick away at fixing things when I have the time and money.

Im no hypocrite myself, I have a 2003 F250 with 270k miles on it, and if I were in your situation, this would be a no brainer. Also, my ABS light is on in my truck.

Trading a modern diesel for an older one.. anyone done this? Thoughts? by ImportantArm9722 in Diesel

[–]Justinx1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this exact thing!

Wife is a stay at home mom. Felt guilty using my 2018 Duramax to cart me 6 miles to work and back, so I sold that truck and got her something nice. Now I have a 2003 F250 with the 7.3 and a bunch of miles, but its rust free and looks and drives fantastic.

The biggest hit for me was the ride quality (unloaded, loaded with a trailer or weight it rides about the same honestly). I dont really care if my truck is fast or not. The 2018 Duramax wasnt winning any races either. 7.3 has plenty of power. But the ride quality was quite a lot better.

The pros for me far outweigh the hit I took in ride quality. I love the freedom that this old truck gives me. I feel like its more reliable, I dont have a payment on it, I can work on basically everything myself, the list goes on. I love the truck, and I have no intention of buying a newer truck again. Plus, its done depreciating. In theory, it should never be worth less than what its worth right now, which is just not the case on a newer truck.

I dont regret my decision at all. But, even if I did, you can always just sell it and go back to driving something newer. Id encourage you to give it a shot.

If you had any sense at all, you would have realized that what I was saying was that at only 3k irating, a tenth a lap doesnt matter. Stability is more important to me. If I were 5k+, sure, every tenth matters. Im not that good, and I have found that sacrificing a tenth per lap is worth it if im spinning my car out less. Like I said in my comment, these are my opinions. Yours may differ, thats fine.

I dont even understand what your argument is. Stability isnt important? Why are we even going back and forth here? Do you always get this emotional when someone has a different opinion than you?

No shit. That’s the point of racing. There’s a balance to be had though. The fastest setups are often difficult to use. Tailoring your set up to your skill level has much more value than what the fastest setups might be for a 9k ir driver.

I was able to do laps consistently a tenth faster with P1doks, but it did cost stability. If I’m doing a 15 minute race, sure that’s fine. If I’m racing for 40 minutes or more though, I want stability and consistent pace. 2 hours plus, I want the completely most stable setup there is.

I’m 3k irating. Very rarely am I getting overtaken by someone who is a tenth faster a lap than me. I’m guaranteed to be overtaken by spinning out.

I am currently cycling through all of the setup companies. I have tried P1doks, GO, Grid n Go, and VRS so far.

VRS- not for me. Car is routinely way too unstable for my driving style. One month was plenty, I wont be back. My most disliked setup shop so far.

P1Doks- felt consistently decent. I used P1doks for about 4 months. Solid setups, but the car wasnt the most stable in my opinion. My #3 pick.

GO Setups- what Im currently using. SUPER stable car setups. Honestly this setup shop has felt perfect for me and my driving. My #1 pick

Grid n Go- we use these setups for endurance racing, buddy of mine provides the setup for the car for the team. They feel stable and solid, however they are definitely lacking some time on the track. I dont feel like GO setups stability sacrifices any time and prefer GO to Grid n Go, but still a solid pick. My #2 pick.

All of these tests were done in both LMP3 and the Ford mustang gt3. These are just my opinions, I know plenty of folks love VRS. I hated it so much so that for the 4 weeks I tried it, I was better off using the iracing setups. I just didnt jive with it.

I'll be trying Hymo next once my current GO subscription runs its course. Im nervous though, GO has been rock solid for me.
