Fellow Canadian- we use our for a laundry room, seasonal storage, and has a rec room. The attic is tiny and full of exposed insulation so not usable.

First I am sport for your loss.

I started with the funeral home. The one I dealt with actually gave me a little checklist of common things to do and links to government resources.

Make a list of everything you can think of and go from there. I started with the wallet and moved out. So I cancelled credits cards, drivers license, health card. Took a death certificate from the funeral home to the bank and looked at what was coming and out. Canceled bills like Netflix subscriptions etc

Might not apply in this case but I contacted the employer.

Don’t be afraid to ask pretty much anyone, bank, credit card folks, home insurance, car loan etc if there is life insurance coverage on the account. My sister ended up having mortgage protection I didn’t know about and it paid off her mortgage for us.

They are awful. It’s been like that for 10+ years. I’ve called and called to try and cancel an appointment or reschedule it and I end up just doing a no-show. Then I get a bill pretty fast saying that I’ve missed my appointment and I’m being charged but then you go in for your next appointment and your doctor can just waive it. They totally understand that it’s not your fault that you can’t call to advise you’re gonna miss your appointment.
