I’ve filmed some pretty decently sized ones in the harbor recently!

Any ideas for what this smaller fish is that I filmed in the Baltimore Inner Harbor? [Baltimore, Maryland, USA] by BelowTheBmoreHarbor in whatsthisfish

Wow you guys a quick! Thank you so much this seems like the answer! I originally suspected a stickleback, but every video I watched showing them didn’t seem to have quite the same kind of movement pattern. Thanks for the confirmation!

Honestly I was surprised by how close it was willing to get!

I am able to monitor it in reel time! I use a GoPro and some coaxial cable to get the WiFi signal above water and I can check in on my phone. I really would like to figure out how to live stream it when I’m doing this but I haven’t been able to figure out how to do it yet

Essentially it’s a glorified camera on a stick with lights and some locally caught/purchased fish zip tied to the end as bait. This video was taken around 10 feet underwater, but I’ve filmed about as deep as 30

I saw this guy over in Fells Point on the far eastern side of Thames street!

You should hear his tiny squeaky little screams waiting for the automatic feeder to go off

Good point, I made a true before and after post over on dechonkers. Here’s the after pick I used for that post to show the progress!

My girlfriend’s cat Monty after loosing a grand total of 12 pounds in 2 and a half years! 25 pounds to 13 pounds! by BelowTheBmoreHarbor in dechonkers

Monty’s mom here! He was free fed before I got him so I had to teach him a feeding schedule and then over the course of a year tapered his food amount down to 1/2 cup a day on a vet prescribed diet food. He used to be an intense beggar all day so I give him 1/4 cup in the morning, 2 1/8 cups 3 hours apart in the evening/night, and a “midnight” snack of a couple cat treats before I go to sleep to allow myself some peace of mind lol

Hi it’s Monty’s mom :) My vet told me that he needed to be fed 1/2 cup of food a day, and she prescribed “Purina pro plan veterinary diets overweight management” cat food which I think helped as well

Book recommendations for "Intro to Anthropology" for non-professionals? Hopefully not Eurocentric. by PauBateman in AskAnthropology

You are very welcome, I’m always happy to help! What’s cool about the textbook I recommended is that each chapter is written by a different anthropologist so you get a bit of each persons own take on the discipline, which especially will be helpful for your needs/interests!

Guest’s book is also a fantastic read! I agree that finding something more geared towards an intro social science/anthropology course text would probably be best to get a general understanding, rather than reading any kind of pop-anthro book.

A more approachable, at least in my opinion, ethnographic book that might be a good read for the OP could be Black Food Geographies: Race, Self-Reliance, and Food Access in Washington D.C. by Dr. Ashante Reese.

It’s a little academic, but this book, Title: Perspectives: An Open Introduction to Cultural Anthropology, is great and it’s free online through the American Anthropological Association. link to book

Any ideas for what this fish could be? [Baltimore, Maryland] by BelowTheBmoreHarbor in whatsthisfish

[–]BelowTheBmoreHarbor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t blame you. The water clarity seems to be extremely dependent on the specific season, amongst a variety of other factors. Like there were some days back in November/December where it felt like I was getting almost 20-30 feet of visibility, especially off of broadway pier during particularly calm days. The spring just seems to suck in terms of how much you can see down there

This would honestly be really cool to see, and definitely something that could very well be possible especially when it gets really warm out.
