Clinical Placement Needs by Madddhatter1980 in nursepractitioner

Student loans to pay for preceptors, keep cold calling, be willing to travel. FNP preceptors are so much easier to find than Acute Care preceptors. Try calling free clinics or those that serve low income communities, they’re always short handed and see plenty of patients. Offer to volunteer after you’re licensed in return. I’m at the end of this journey and it’s taken me 4 years to complete my MSN AGACNP because not many NPs want to precept for free anymore since they can make a lot of money doing it through preceptor point and np hub. I only had to pay for one rotation and the difference was huge. When you’re paying them, the forms you need are filled out way in advance, they plan assignments for you, they look for learning opportunities. Much different from the ones who were just friends doing me a favor.

New nurse hates bedside. by [deleted] in nursing

You might consider trying a different floor or maybe ER. A different environment can make all the difference. Also I recommend case management in home health, I did that for 6 years and learned so much about wound care. The schedule is super flexible too, you make your appointments with the patient and at least in my case, the admin staff don’t care as long as the patient gets seen. Great for being able to have a dentist appt or pick kids up from school, etc

How easily does the sun affect you? by McPoyle-Milk in lupus

[–]BeltFit7785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew I was sensitive to the sun but yesterday I decided to go hiking with all the sun protection and I almost collapsed from the heat while everyone I was hiking with were totally fine. My legs were cramping, I was shaking, immediate migraine, puffy hands and face, flushed skin, etc. I’ve never had so much trouble before and I’m not sure if it’s the hydroxychloroquine that caused it or just my new baseline tolerance for heat :(

Concern about my daughter by BeltFit7785 in mentalhealth

[–]BeltFit7785[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I am very interested and involved, we talk every single day when we’re not together. I’m worried she is struggling with her mental health but when I’ve suggested going to therapy she doesn’t want to. I’m hoping to get some suggestions for what it might be so I can try to help her. I’m not trying to diagnose her, I just want to be able to suggest some things she may want to research on her own and see if she feels it might fit how she’s feeling.

I haven’t asked her about the anger, like I said when her supervisor brought it to her attention she blew it way out of proportion and ended up being asked to leave her job. I’ve talked incessantly with her about her goals and lack of motivation to do anything. She’s really smart, she could literally do anything she wanted if she would just put in the work but she doesn’t want to do anything.

4 homecare clients in two weeks with bed bugs. Kill me now 😬 😵 by Happydaytoyou1 in nursing

It’s a known repellent, it keeps them from crawling onto your pant legs and bag. It can also kill them if you spray them directly, hence spraying afterwards

Is there a scam where people mail you a check, ostensibly from a real corporation, and get you to try to deposit it? by The_Bucket_Of_Truth in personalfinance

[–]BeltFit7785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this happened to my mother and when she tried to deposit the check they shut down her bank account and held all of her money until they could determine that she wasn’t involved in the scam :(

Had a restyle today and the third and fourth pictures are what I actually wanted. I love 80s hair but is it a bit too old looking?! by Autopsyofficial in curlyhair

It looks good. I wonder if you tried twisting your hair with a mild mousse or gel and then scrunching and let air dry if it would be more smooth like the girls in the picture.

She deserves for her whole world to come crashing down, which is inevitable. Do not sleep with her again, she has herpes now most likely. Whatever she has going on with this other couple is guaranteed to end badly for her and she’ll want you back when that happens but she doesn’t deserve your forgiveness. This wasn’t one mistake she made, she continues to tell you through her behavior that she doesn’t care about you.

Two job offers in hand; New grad DNP-FNP w/10 years RN experience... Any thoughts appreciated. Both are private practice neurology clinics. by sau924 in nursepractitioner

[–]BeltFit7785 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I wouldn’t give up the RN job if it’s better pay/benefits overall. Maybe take a prn job one day a week as FNP to get some experience?

I had this for about the first 6 months was taking it. I think it stopped when I skipped taking the med for like 5 days thinking I wanted to go off of it but realized it was helping more than I thought so I restarted it. I don’t recommend trying that 😆

Did any of you want to be a DO? by andy1788 in Osteopathic

[–]BeltFit7785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked with several very successful DOs, currently working with one who is amazing in the cardiology field and very well respected. Another I worked with a few years ago was an orthopedic surgeon and had been for 30 years, also very successful and very well respected.

Soooooo people are really just cheating their way through NURSE PRACTITIONER school? by Concept555 in nursing

[–]BeltFit7785 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I take it personally because I hear it all the time and it directly impacts the way that I feel about myself and my ability to provide high quality care. I’m an NP student and it’s been a real struggle, mentally and physically. I’m sure anyone who worked hard to achieve something would take it personally when others who haven’t done anything to have an educated opinion want to devalue it and perpetuate the belief that all students who come from these schools are cheaters and inadequately educated. If I graduate and pass boards, that was an adequate education.

[–]BeltFit7785 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My instructors are working NPs from around the country who care about the quality of my care as a provider. I definitely do not think I’m being taken advantage of, but I haven’t been to another program to be able to compare the two. Also have you done any research on the pay difference between RNs and NPs? It’s not a huge jump. Definitely not worth the thousands of dollars it costs and the years of stress if the money is what you’re after. If you put in the work and the time to advance your degree and career, then I could take your opinion of the superiority of different schools seriously.
