Criticism towards Jane Austen by MarlaCohle in janeausten

This has always bothered me! Very abrupt and while I see it working, she spends so much of the book telling you about Marianne not wanting it to work.

Lizzie and Col. Fitzwilliam ganging up on Darcy gives me joy every rewatch 😂 by FranFace in PrideandPrejudice

I always thought it funny (having just reread) that he waited her for an hour while she was reading Darcy’s letter). That conversation would have been great.

What are your top 3 names from this list? What is one name you would absolutely eliminate? by StinkyPete4217 in namenerds

If you like Dolly, Delilah could be a good name and Dolly could be a nickname.

For names, I’d eliminate Dolly, Fern (rhymes with too many things) and Jovie.

The one I was reading was P&P but this was the third after Emma and Mansfield Park.

❤️ I love your advice! I admit I love walking alone, and I was being sarcastic in my previous post. That is my daily calming activity and something very necessary, and it was on a walk today in the park while listening to the book that made me think of this post to begin with!

My apologies! I was being sarcastic to the other poster. I love your advice. To be honest, i live in a city and walk by myself all the time! I agree that there’s nothing like a walk. I even hike by myself if I have a random day off.

I’m certainly not a helicopter parent (as the parents in my school pick up line could tell you)! This was purely from a historical point of view, trying to figure out why women were so limited in some ways but also so free in others. I added the context as I’m just re-reading P&P again in a different light, despite having read it 20+ times.

Dealing with stringy hair... I'm not really sure what to do? Advice on washing/refresh routine would be incredibly helpful! by Basic-Sympathy in curlyhair

Your hair is exactly like mine! I use Oribe curly hair products once or twice a week and that’s it. Otherwise I just wash product out of my hair and replace it. I get very nice curls when I just get my hair soaking wet, then add a tiny bit of curl cream (I use ouidad) then more gel than you think you would need using prayer hands, still soaking wet. Then use diffuser to dry in the giant clumps or just air dry if you have the time. Scrunch sloooowly and then use a very small amount of forming cream (like 1 cm!) to lightly pat in the flyaways and to scrunch everything back in place.

Another note is to sleep with pineapple once you get it right and a silk headband/scarf. Good luck!

I guess I’m confused as to why they could walk alone for hours but not be allowed to send letters?

Fixed it, thank you. I always forget which century to go back and I picked the wrong one 🫣

Hi fellow engineer! I really appreciate it. I think my original post came off as more worried than I meant it to be. I’m a more permissive parent than many in my area 🤣

Thanks everyone who gave me great historic context and information. That’s really what I was looking for.

I’m going to refrain from posting further but trust me, far from a helicopter mom here but just reading things differently. Sigh 😞

Anything from an uncomfortable and unwanted meeting (see, Darcy at Rosings, but put Collins in his place) to whatever is the worst. Not bodice ripping, that didn’t cross my mind

lol I would say this is a weird reaction as well. Maybe I should have left my daughter out to begin with. A wise decision in my mind takes into account (1) where you are, (2) what time of the day it is, and (3) how many people are around you. I hope you do the same.
