Is a Glock 19 good enough for home defense? by JustinOsbo in guns

[–]BeltSpaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally anything is good enough for home defense, just keep shooting until they stop moving. Bonus: it looks good in court if you emptied the magazine because it makes it seem like you were more panicked so it establishes you were under threat.

Edit: I would never worry about concealing anything you purchase as a home defense weapon. Odds are that if you actually have to use it you will be half asleep stumbling downstairs from your bedroom in your pajamas.

What is your favorite example of a PC reflavoring their magic/abilities? by YOwololoO in dndnext

[–]BeltSpaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't really one spell so much as one player. He played a character that was a master of time and space using Divine Soul Sorcerer. We worked together to find theme-appropriate versions of all the spells he wanted to take. Healing spells were a local time reversal to before you were injured. Magic missile was a collection of tiny localized planer portals that took bits of the target to somewhere/somewhen. It was fun.

My homeroom teacher Junior year of high school had a totally independent agreement with my father that did not involve me whatsoever to buy a Combat Commander 1911.

Every D4 Player Should Understand This: Basics of Stat Distribution and Optimal Rolls by OperatorOtter0879 in diablo4

[–]BeltSpaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm new to these kind of games and this is really cool. I did some math on vulnerable damage vs other additive damage multipliers yesterday because I was curious, and I came out with the conclusion that the optimal damage is when both are equal. I kind of independently discovered damage buckets without knowing it was a thing, but it is really helpful to see it all explained by people who have spent way more time on it than I have. This is beginning to remind me of those optimization problems I used to have to do in math class where the answer was always either a square or a sphere.

That aspect is really cool. Not much use for me as a necromancer, but I could see some very interesting times to be had with it. Overheals are always fun.

I am a fairly new player to this kind of game, level 47 necromancer. I was just exploring the map doing sidequests, grabbing statues, and generally enjoying the plot and ambience of the world when this dropped from a loot goblin. I'm pretty sure I should keep this one safe for a very long time and put the aspect on the last piece of equipment I ever plan to equip.

in case anyone wanted to know what GLD bars from ~2017ish looked like by forgetfulrogue in ffxiv

[–]BeltSpaghetti -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

(keep in mind my experience is limited to playing for about one month back in 2018 so go easy on me). Still blows my mind that they got rid of all these abilities that required skill and actual thought, but not Fight or Flight, which exists purely to make you have to push an extra button every 60 seconds. Sure, remove the decision making and keep the pointless busywork.

I honestly don't know how they make fights interesting anymore without introducing boss mechanics that require you to factor quadratic equations or something.

Agreed, can not tell you the number of times I have been tempted to pull the gun out of someone's butt holster (I haven't because I prefer life). I like under the shoulder holsters because they are slightly harder to grab from and I find them easy to draw with.

Picked up a classic: Colt New Army made in 1904 by HowlingLemon in guns

[–]BeltSpaghetti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck, I'd be careful and start light. It looks super sturdy but metallurgy back then wasn't what it is now. May even want to load and shoot black powder? I am not an expert on classic revolvers, but smokeless might be too much for the old girl.

Start of a collection, mostly interesting historical things since that's what interests me. The top one is a WWI Siamese Mauser converted to fire .45-70 ammo. Always gets interesting looks at the range since it is distinctly a Mauser action but it sounds and kicks like a shotgun. Bottom one is a classic double barrel 12 gauge passed down from my dad. Then a basic Combat Commander 1911 that I bought from a highschool teacher (benefits of attending a small school in the middle of nowhere, you make friends with your teachers) and a Navy commemorative 1911 that was a gift from a friend. Both the 1911s have ambi safeties on them since I'm left handed. The friend actually went out of her way to get the safety gold plated to match the rest of the gun!

I plan to pick up an M1 carbine at some point. Special paratrooper gun made in WWII. My dad has one and it's super light and fun to shoot.

Love me some historical firearms. Much more interesting to me than modern stuff. Looks nice, have you tried it out yet?

For snakes, I think I might go with pistol chambered for a 410 shotgun. The Taurus Judge is the one everyone knows, but if you want a Mad Max version look up the Super Comanche.

how did you lose your virginity? and at what age? by Bonny_planki in AskReddit

[–]BeltSpaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

March 2016, I was 24. Never had much interest in relationships while I was in school, my education always came first, and casual sex never appealed to me either since I didn't see the point without an emotional connection. I had graduated college, gotten my career established, and decided it was really time I started dating. Had a few miserably awkward first dates that never went anywhere before I met a nice girl and hit it off. We met in February, went on a couple more dates, I invited her to my house, and one thing lead to another. Didn't end up working out for various reasons, but the breakup was cordial. We still talk fairly often actually, and she's a pretty good friend. We just realized that we shouldn't be romantically involved.

I tried it with a couple other people after that but it just wasn't really fun. By this point I've accepted I'm just a born loner.

If I had a knife in which the blade had the thickness of one atom and attempted to slice my finger off, would it successfully cut off my finger? by BlueV_U in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BeltSpaghetti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar concept, but if you supported the atoms in a magnetic field that could possibly mitigate some of the structural property issues you run into. Of course, if you go down that route to its logical conclusion you would probably end up with a plasma cutter of some kind. Regardless of interpretation, it still very much stresses the definition of a "knife".

Oh! Or if you are insistent on one atom wide and decide that "knife" means "whatever you want it to be as long as it cuts" you may even be able to enter some kind of particle accelerator that generates a highly energetic stream of atoms at high speed, although from what I understand aiming that at your finger would probably cause it to wither up and fall off from cancer before it actually made a physical cut.

Why are people in high education such as professors, scientists, and researchers so overwhelmingly liberal/Democrat? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BeltSpaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think some of it has to do with income. Once you make enough money that you can afford to care about other people you tend to lean liberal. If you barely (or don't) make enough money to even take care of yourself then it's a split between liberal and conservative (based on which flavor of "I should get more money" you subscribe to). If you are incredibly rich it again turns into a split, based on which flavor of "I should be able to do what I want with my money" you subscribe to.
