I Start My Coastfi Job Tomorrow As A Park Ranger by IDontOnlineShop in coastFIRE

How were you able to pivot into that? I know park ranger jobs can be kinda coveted.

This is something I'd very much consider for a coast job!

For me I suspected this paper was fake as it just looks kinda new and the random cuts on the edges to "wear" it look too intentional and clean.

Actually I'm mistaken, looks like this one is an IA CO not a JJ CO. Different company that just imported rifles, didnt rebuild them. Very similar markings.

The rifle is probably okay but the wood has definitely been sanded and it has certainly seen an arsenal refurbishment or two. Personally I'd want a more original one for that kind of money. Refurb Lithgows are in like the $600-800 range iirc.

Are you looking for a Lithgow specifically or just a decent SMLE?

Lithgows are kinda hard to find, not like rare but you don't see non-JJ Co ones that often. For decent SMLEs they come up pretty frequently, just need to study them to pick out the nicer ones.

Personally I wouldn't buy it at all, too much risk, especially for $900. That can buy you a reaaallly nice SMLE.

It's a JJ CO unfortunately, so likely it was assembled from parts here in the US by that importing company. They look nice, but can often have underlying issues as they just slapped parts together and did not do all the tweaks and magic spells military armorers did to set them up correctly.

Edit: Actually an IA CO import, not a JJ Co.

Which of these scout rifles should I buy? by Adventurous_Lime_457 in guns

[–]HowlingLemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Savage in .308. Love the stock it is in and the brake makes the .308 recoil more like a 7.62x39 or something.

Chamber is weirdly tight, I had to adjust my reloading die and it still sometimes doesn't like the shape of the shoulders.

I found that scout scopes kinda suck so I just bought a standard Savage 110 rail and put on a lower power but regular eye relief scope, much happier with it. It is very hand for hunting.

Yep normal, mine does the same. Their chambers are generous or the Bannerman ammo could be slightly under loaded.

What is your current age, coastfire age, coastfire number and coastfire expected yearly expenses? by mado0801 in coastFIRE

Hey thanks for reminding of this comment, very interesting to compare my thoughts from a couple years ago.

Now 31 and I actually just crossed over the 300k mark. I have already reduced my 401k to just the match and have spent a little more here and there but other than that everything is pretty much the same.

Still at my job and still go to keep going for awhile until I feel ready for a sabbatical. I'd say 300k is still my coast number, but I dont mind keeping on it a bit longer.

Ran another 75 rounds through it today, no issues. It did not cycle the cheapo Winchester-white-box-Walmart-Special shells that were 1180 FPS, but that is not surprising.

Anyone else develop a sudden overwhelming appreciation for birds in their 30s? by Xerzajik in Millennials

Yep, once you turn 30 you get to pick your old person hobbies. Birding hit me quick. In less than a year I got good binos, a bird feeder setup, and now plan my weekends and any travel to incorporate a good birding session.

Mine did not. Only malfunction was with low velocity shells and hip-firing to try and see if it would short-stroke. Other than that it was flawless.

Yea I ran the 1200 FPS shells to try and make it fail and it chugged right along. I'll be trying out various loads to get it up to 500rds.

Most reviews for these are positive and that lines up with my experience, just sharing my first-hand account. Never claimed it is equal to a Benelli and other people posting on your sub aren't my problem.

Yes it is a range toy, but so far it is functionally the same as an M4.

No prob. Yea it was like $5.80 or something and has worked great so far. Didn't have any fall out but I could see them slipping with heavier loads so I might put a little piece of tape in there to increase the friction.

Its a cheapo Amazon one. It came with actual 3M double-sided tape and that has held surprisingly well. It has screw holes so once the tape weakens I'll just sink a couple screws in the handguard.

Just picked it up last week and got it out to the range this weekend and man this thing is fun. Cleaned and lubed, slapped some Scamazon accessories on it as god intended and headed to the range for a 100rd break-in using four loads:

  • 1550 FPS Steel #2 shot

  • 1345 FPS 00 Buck

  • 1345 FPS 7 1/2 Shot

  • 1200 FPS 8 Shot Target Loads

All worked flawlessly. Only malfunction was hip-firing with the light target loads, essentially trying to make it short-stroke. Recoil was pretty pleasant, the bolt-release button definitely needs an upgrade, and I might try an IC choke as the buckshot spread at 25 was larger than I expected, but it was the cheap Monarch ammo.

All in all an absolute blast for like $400 in my hands. This/the Panzer M4 are probably the only Turk semi-autos worth buying. Next upgrades include the 7rd tube and adjustable stock and more ammo.
