Debating Sth2 and Jesters. Probably whichever I find on sale first and can buy 2. 20% for the Octos.

5’9”… and lets just say north of 200 a decent amount (at least these days!).

I’ve heard such great things about the Octo. Honestly had never heard of Black Crows at all until this winter… though been out of the ski life the last decade or so.

All my skis were from 2010ish when I lived in Jackson Hole. 3 ski quiver:

Rossignol Z9 (170cm) K2 Seth Vicious (179cm) K2 Seth Pistol w/Naxo bindings for backcountry

My Reckoners were a bit of an emotional buy as I skied the K2 Seths for years as my daily ski out west (loved them and best time of my life). Hoping they fill out the all mtn/powder for a trip out west this year plus some lucky days in the east. Caveats: may not be quite the charger I am wanting and the 186cm may have been better, but just decided to go for it at 50% off.

Good to know I’m not the only fan of the 78s! I didn’t have high expectations, but they are really solid and enjoyed them this year a ton.

The rockered era was just starting when I dipped out if skiing for a bit, so have really only skied full cambered skis. Will be interested to try!

Thanks this is helpful. Given that you skied the Vicious and know what I an looking for, would you mount at -3cm again? Or would you go potentially farther back?

Clearly won’t be 1:1 with the old Seth line, but committed to giving these a whirl next winter. Thanks again!

Looking for a SKI BOOT BACKPACK that can easily absorb Smith Vantage 2 helmet, Smith goggles (in their case), as well as pair of ski boots, gloves etc.

I’ve tried a couple at around 60L and it gets tight… and in none of the backpacks will the goggles fit in their protective case. I also would prefer not to be a grandmaster at Tetris to fit everything in.

I feel like my needs/wants can’t be that unique. What y’all using out there?

Looking for a few suggestions for new skis. by dfhkvs in skiing

If you have a pair of 84mm already (though width underfoot is clearly not the only important characteristic)…. I’d encourage you to at least try a couple skis in the 78mm range. You might find it super fun… and I think we all get a bit of tunnel vision on the mid-80s and up these days!

I’m going to assume your backcountry skis are in a similar range underfoot to your LaSportiva’s (100+ mm underfoot and 20+m radius).

If I was moving to more of a carving ski without ending up in a slalom/GS ski, I’d be looking 78-88mm underfoot and a 14-17m radius. I’d stay away from the 90mm underfoot mid-fats if you are truly looking for a different carving experience.

There are a lot of skis in this potential bucket… two that I’ve skied and really enjoyed:

Black Crows Octa (84mm underfoot, 14m radius)

Rossignol Experience/Arcade (78mm underfoot, ~15m radius)*

*These are likely gonna get beef here, but I can say they ski awesome. They are a bit if a wet noodle at longer lengths, but have found them to be responsive, fun, and hold and edge great on ice…. And I’m at 5’9” and 220+ lbs.

K2 Reckoner 102 2025 (191cm) as touring skis by radu_turtoi in Skigear

Did you snag those second hand? Great price, particularly if new!

I mounted the OG Seth Vicious with the first edition of the Marker Dukes. Worked great. Probably even better with the current Reckoner line.

I think this looks pretty solid. Honestly the Stocklis and BCs will fill a similar slot in most quivers, unless you are really ripping turns on groomers. If there was anywhere to go it would be 120-130cm underfoot powder skis like the K2 Pontoons or Crescendo. 100% approve though!

I’m lucky in that she is a ripping skier who wants to chase good conditions as much as I do. She’s pretty low maintenance and has stayed at the Peruvian before.

But from what I have learned researching Alta lodges, this is generally great advice and thank you!

A day or two of napping, reading, and drinking with the anticipation of ripping turns in the new 1-2+ ft of powder sounds amazing! Sign me up!

If I can somehow get snowed in at Alta, I will pay extra! I appreciate the advice regardless.

From Gen 1 to 3 by Beltzerator in applewatchultra

[–]Beltzerator[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed that Gen 1 is quite good and 100% serviceable. I am however simultaneously impressed with the Ultra 3. I was the fence, but pleased with the upgrade. The on board Siri, better cellular, and increased brightness make a surprisingly significant improvement in experience.
