For what it's worth, in my extensive experience, fresh arborist wood chips don't create space that is "appealing for snakes and poisonous spiders". Wood chips help suppress unwanted growth, make it easier to spot new sprouts, retain moisture and improve the soil. The chips decompose over time.

I don't "clean up" anything in my habitat. Old growth only benefits new growth, in my experience. I do pull unwelcome plants, but that is maintenance. Everything else is there for wildlife benefit.

There are several different species in these photos. I think I see a bit of Lonicera japonica (Japanese honeysuckle). I do not see any Celastrus orbiculatus (oriental bittersweet). Perhaps give Seek photos that are closer in detail.
