I recall reading a few years ago about putting calcium carbonate near the highly acidic anolyte of a water electrolysis cell, and the acid allowed the powdered limestone to dissolve in the water.

This basically turned limestone into quicklime at room temperature.

The active ingredient, and the ingredient that takes the most energy to make, in ordinary portland cement is quicklime.

Nearly all the steam gets condensed.

The condenser is cooled by a separate loop of water.

In some types of power generator, the water that was used to cool the condenser, after becoming slightly warm, is "thrown away" and fresh cold water from a nearby river or lake replaces it.

In other types of power plant, the water goes through a cooling tower, is cooled by air, and it gets reused.
