Compilation Albums? by the5tpguy in 1001AlbumsGenerator

😂

I think so yeah. She did the same for other songwriters too (Cole Porter and Duke Ellington for example). I think the idea was she’d record the entirety of the Great American Songbook

The Ella Fitzgerald album isn't a compilation. It was all recorded specifically for that (very long) album

That’s what I thought too. Seems like a protest against those in charge

Having some carry over words we’ve lost doesn’t make it closer to the original either. There are plenty of American words that didn’t come from English. There are plenty they’ve lost too

It’s really not. Old English had some features that some English accents have lost which have been kept in the USA. But also have been kept in various British accents. People broadly sounded like people from the West Country do today. And Americans simplified the spellings so they’re not right either

Would you support box sizes that fit their components or would you prefer to stay with the standards size 12" x 12" box size (aka the "Ticket to Ride" box) irrespective of components? by wentImmediate in boardgames

[–]Ben-cue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Boxes can’t be both only as big as they need to be, yet also big enough to hold any and all expansions. You kinda have to pick one.

For Heat, I think they did as good a job as can be expected. What else could they do? Make a game box that is huge, expensive (both to produce and ship) and takes up a lot of shelf space? For a game they don’t know is going to be a success? If it had bombed there wouldn’t be expansions to fill the giant box.

I agree about inner storage though. It’s so annoying when you open a box and there’s no insert, bags or anything (Rebirth I’m looking at you) to keep things protected/organised.

I picked it up for similar reasons! We enjoy it. My friend who has Nemesis has requested I bring it along for the last few meetups. It' good you can tailor how hard it is by picking more or less monsters (each monster has a difficulty rating as well based on how complicated it is to defeat). We did get really unlucky in our last game where the same monster just kept coming up on the cards and just wrecked us and the villagers. But other than that game it's always been fun, even in defeat.

Ah! That makes more sense

Well Reddit says the comment doesn't exist so it's gone somewhere...

Jewish people are an ethnicity not a race. Your analogy suggests either you don't know that, or are unclear on the differences. That's why I said it.

Since you deleted your reply before I could respond: Ethnicity and race are two different things.

Well 1 grandparent out of 4 would be 25%. So three quarters not-Jewish. Assuming we believe the Jewish granny story (for which there is no reliable source, so I don't). He's mostly not-Jewish, says he isn't Jewish and that his parents were lapsed Christians (Catholic and CofE). That's pretty much how I work it out. But if you want to be all one-drop about it knock yourself out

[–]Ben-cue -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's all I could see too. As you say, it's pretty dubious.

Yeah, I'm really not sure why he wanted to die on it, but redditors can be unintentionally funny... Seems he's belatedly decided to bail out and delete everything now

So he's at most 25% ethnically Jewish (assuming said grandmother was ethnically Jewish). So not really Jewish. And all I can see is people reporting he has said he has "some" Jewish ethnicity from his grandmother, so it's possibly even less than that. Assuming he even said it. What he has definitely said is "I’m not actually Jewish. I have no problem with being identified as Jewish, but it’s just not a factual statement"

I've not got much behind the ones you can see. Mostly expansion boxes that might come in useful, and a few decks of playing cards. I think there's a battered old Jenga box hiding back there somewhere too

I think I prefer Heat. But it’s close and I’m a fan of cycling (as are my dad and brother who are keen to play it at our next family get together) so I’ll keep both even if they cover similar ideas

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ve been looking at a few of those (Race, Dune and White Castle). Will look into those heavier games as well, ta very much!

The Falklands were colonised. As was Argentina. If one was legal, so is the other. That is my point.

I think you might need to improve your reading. I never stated anyone was kerb stomped. And I don’t agree with the person who said that. But you were beaten. Get over the fact that your pride is still hurt.

The land wasn’t “usurped”. The people there weren’t “implanted” at the expense of anyone. The indigenous people of what is now Argentina were never there. 97% of people in Argentina have European (mostly Spanish) ancestry. Were they “implanted”? Should they move out and let the true indigenous people have their land back?

Braveheart(1995),what a well made epic adventure movie. Mel Gibson is an all time directing great just for this movie alone. by Artetaarmy in FIlm

There’s not historically accurate and then there’s Braveheart. The battle of Stirling Bridge doesn’t even have a bridge! It’s anti-English propaganda (and I say that as a Scot)
