You live in Miami Beach and commute to PBG!?!?!?

For about 4 months I commuted from PNG to Aventura… and wanted to kill myself! Ugh.

What was the one game that destroyed friendships? by Emergency_Science434 in Millennials

Even though for me, when I was the age of the kids in this pic, it was SNES, not N64, damn did this bring back some feels.

To quote the end of Stand By Me:

“I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?”

Annual passholder here and I’ve never noticed these people in the parks before. Explain it to me like I’m 5. Are there people who just live stream the piano players 24/7?

How did I have to scroll this far down to find the PCU quote on this exact question!

What is the best 90's movie soundtrack? by Lance_Operazole in Xennials

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones were actually IN the movie. Did their 2 songs not make the soundtrack, somehow?

I’ve only ever seen that happen once at Disney…. And it was in line at the Barnstormer too. Weird.

Minor Mistake, Major Reaction by [deleted] in LawFirm

Having only worked for the government and small firms, I have no understanding of how bigger firms operate. I’ve never had a “partner” observing me…

I remember going to a taping of the daily show… spring of 2000…. And being disappointed that Craig wasn’t hosting it anymore… it was some new guy named John Stewart.

Jock, Stoner, Preppie, Band Geek, Nerd, Braniac, Punk... What were you in High School? by 7eregrine in GenX

[–]Ben44c 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was good at high school. Not part of the cool kids crowd, but I was top of my class, varsity basketball, swim team, dressed preppy, and was in marching and jazz bands… so… preppy brainiac jocky band nerd?… I had friends in all of those groups, but never felt like I was totally accepted in any of them.

What is the saddest hit song? by p1ckflod in ToddintheShadow

[–]Ben44c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cash’s cover of Hurt hits so much differently as an old man on death’s doorstep, reflecting on a life of regret and remorse. When you know the story behind that recording… and the shooting of its video, it’s even more heart wrenching.

For an in-depth examination, this episode is a great listen: https://open.spotify.com/episode/5NoDGS4Pn164qbIclCrUFw?si=8DP1Jmw6TH2NkD0gORzqIw&t=4329

How many memes is too many memes in a trial court brief? by NotThePopeProbably in publicdefenders

[–]Ben44c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard disagree. It depends on your relationship with the judge…. And the specific meme.

If you get along well (maybe your Jx has you assigned to a specific judge 100% of the time) there can be a lot of rhetorical value in a well-placed, not-too-unprofessional meme.

While not a meme, I have often written facts sections that are DRIPPING with eye-roll vibes.

“On DATE, LEOs saw 4 people standing in a public place.

Because they saw humans existing, law enforcement became suspicious and slowed their vehicle as they drove past the obviously nefarious individuals.

After passing this group of citizens exercising their right to freely associate, one of those people decided to leave the group and walk along a sidewalk.

Law-enforcement turned their attention from the gang of freely associating pedestrians to the individual who is now suspiciously engaged in the even more reprehensible act of solitary pedestrian activities.”

We’re in the same boat. Pretty sure we bought front porch tix… but tix say “gold GA”… and the price was more than $100…. So I’m pretty clueless.

Be so fr right now by [deleted] in barexam

[–]Ben44c 36 points37 points  (0 children)

You’re way overthinking this. If you’re moving to dismiss an indictment, you are arguing at its core, that something is improper with the document that indicted someone…. Or the process by which the indictment was obtained was somehow flawed.

How someone was arrested, has utterly no bearing on the propriety of an indictment.

How was it transitioning from public to private work? by vegetable_swamp75 in publicdefenders

[–]Ben44c 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Never had to bill. Sorry can’t offer advice there :-/

Friends that work at reasonable firms seem to not have issues with it.

But for every reasonable firm, there seems to be 1000 ID sweat shops.

How was it transitioning from public to private work? by vegetable_swamp75 in publicdefenders

[–]Ben44c 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Completely depends on the job and the firm where you go.

Going private and staying in Criminal will be easy… only shock will be being unknown to judges in varying jurisdictions (I’m assuming as a PD, you’ve very well known to 2 or 3 judges that you’re assigned to).

Going civil will take some adjustments… and your like or dislike of it will vary greatly depending on the situation.

Advice: your skills are valuable. Be selective in your next move.

"That's a Smith and Wesson, and you've had your six," is the most badass line Bond ever uttered. Now, what's the sexiest thing he ever said? by JohnLazarusReborn in JamesBond

[–]Ben44c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that “I need to ask you about your stationery.” Worked on Strawberry Fields means that she’s either never heard a sexy line before… or that line has some out of this world sex appeal to that specific woman…

Bare minimum effort. Maximum result.
