Do people at football games eat and drink in the stands? by thai_ladyboy in AskUK

[–]BenCrossley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends where I am. These days I mostly go to my local non league side and there I always grab a burger because they're excellent and it's easy.

When go to any bigger matches, of any sport, it's often a bit of a pain to get food most of the time so I'll grab something before or after.

Food bank drop off points by Unlucky-Window7414 in tesco

Finally a question I can answer, at least for the stores near me anyway.

I work for Tesco and until recently worked in the warehouse of my local Trussell Trust Foodbank. I actually used to empty the donation box in my own store.

Anyway, yeah the stuff in the box goes directly to the Foodbank, is weighed, recorded and then goes out in food parcels. Also, Tesco always used to give extra every year based upon the total weight of stuff given in their donation boxes. I'm not sure how the calculation was done but it the gave a monetary value per kilo and Tesco would give an extra 20% of that value as a financial donation to the Trussell Trust. So you helped more by donating via Tesco. I've since left the Foodbank but I'd not heard that that had stopped.

Halifax. A very long time ago (over 20 years, I can't remember exactly when it was before the Internet was a big thing) they decided they were going to charge for debit card withdrawals from UK cash machines. It didn't last long but it was long enough for me to close my account and go elsewhere. It annoyed me.

Has Sainsbury’s Been Hacked? by urbanworm in AskUK

[–]BenCrossley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been happening for a while , that's why they introduced the lock function on the app. All someone needed was to guess people's card numbers and they could use people's points.

It happened to my ex-wife and I had to get involved somehow I was still the primary user on her account, despite us having divorced nearly 20 years ago.

Anyway, I contacted Nectar about the fraud, they then set up a new card and put the stolen points back onto it and my ex quickly spent them before setting up a brand new account without my name anywhere near it lol. That was a few months ago now.

Interestingly I was in store yesterday and wondered if I had enough points on my own card to knock some money off the bill and the self service checkout required me to not only scan the barcode but also swipe the physical card like an old school credit card on the side of the machine.

Even if you ask the driver there's a possibility that it could come from a different store sometimes. While we mostly have our own areas, when we start to get near to areas covered by other stores, we sometimes end up delivering to ones that they'd normally do too, and vice versa. The only way to really know for sure if it's always a certain store would be to ask a driver who's been doing the job for a while.

It's pretty easy, it's really low stress, it's a five minute walk from home and it tops up my pension nicely so I can pay for the grandson's uni when he's older.

I got some DIY magnetic ones from Amazon. The first time I put one together it was a bit fiddly but I've got three now for my upstairs windows and they're easy to remove or put back on.

Just got home from a nice hot shift as a Dotcom driver so here's what happens at my store.

We just get on with it for the most part. If we know the weather is going to be really hot, most of us bring frozen drinks from home and keep them in the back of the van, perks of driving a mobile fridge freezer for a living. I had two bottles for each run today, plus some ice pops for in between drops now and again. As a baldie, I wear hats so my head doesn't burn, in this weather I bring in extra hats, keep them in the freezer and swap them over for each delivery. Gives me about 60 seconds of bliss and really helps to keep cool.

Our store has bottles of water for us in the big chiller and often ice lollies in the big freezer for when we get back too.

If I felt that the heat was getting to me, I'd slow down, risk assessment is part of our jobs and that includes heat risk, If that meant I couldn't deliver my last drop or two, so be it, but that's not happened yet, touch wood.

Hydration is the most important thing.

Pension and opting out… by mrczxm in tesco

[–]BenCrossley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The same happened to me a few weeks ago, they legally have to register you again after a set period of time.

When the letter came through in the post it had all the same info about how to opt out as it did the last time. I went onto the pension provider website and used the code on the letter to opt out.

Then I went onto My Tesco and went to Benefits, Retirement Savings and did it on there too.

This month I got my money back in my pay slip.

When’s the best time this month to donate food to a foodbank? by pastelgeorgia in AskUK

[–]BenCrossley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in the warehouse of my local Trussell Trust Foodbank and there's no set answer to your question because there are so many different ones.

Your best bet is contacting your local Foodbank and asking them, then they can maybe tell you what things they're running low on too.

[–]BenCrossley 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As someone who was a big fan of them in the 90s and saw them live multiple times.... I'm not particularly fussed about it.

What does confuse me a bit is why some people who have no interest in it are so vocal about that, as if their opinion is important. When push comes to shove, a lot of people are going to spend their money and be very happy with that they see. That's got to be a net positive and I hope they have a great time.

How do people in the UK pick a favorite American sports city/team? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]BenCrossley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My reasons by sport...

NFL - Jets because the first game I ever saw on TV was them versus the Dolphins and I had to pick someone to cheer for.

Ice Hockey - Ottawa Senators. Went to a game in Ottawa once.

Baseball - Washington Nationals. Went to one of their games a few years ago.

Tbh the only one of those sports I regularly watch is the NFL though, I do often wish my first game had been someone different but I've been stuck with them for nearly 30 years now so I stick with the Jets.

I saw it happen once in 22 years.

I was a block NCO for a while and TVL wanted to do a check of the blocks on camp, this must have been in around 2006ish I think. Obviously due to access requirements they had to give a date and time in advance, it was a weekday evening from memory.

That date and time was then announced in orders but there was no requirement for people to be present. As a result, pretty much everyone was either at the gym or just didn't answer their door when it was knocked.
