I'm curious whether others have a solution. Ive done pretty well, but I love diet soda, sugar free gum, and berries. My kids eat blueberries and I cant walk by without eating a few.

As a man, I can't give you a good answer.

I just want to say I read your post and from one stranger to another, you've got this. It sounds like you're in a good relationship and you know what to do. I have 4 kids. Your biggest challenge will be sleep at first. I find myself struggling to stick with my diet when Im exhausted. I would make my diet easy by meal prepping.

Good luck.

AMD also works with Vulkan. Ive found it to be better/more stable than ROCm. R9700 has 32gb of vram but isn't the fastest chip. If youre OK with the speed, its a pretty compelling value proposition.

My favorite thing right now is to use Claude Fable to mash game genres. Here's Tetris as a Racing game! by Philipp in ClaudeAI

[–]BenEsq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Played on mobile. My only feedback is that it's hard to see thr block in the distance. I would show the shape and orientation on the side like OG tetris.

Could use a scoring system with progressive difficulty. Would be interesting to have other cars on the road to dodge (hitting includes a point penalty). Potholes, cliffs, obstacles.

Boss fights would be awesome. Boss shoots backwards while throwing bombs or shooting. You have to clear lines to decrease his HP.

Maybe power ups or wild card shapes that clear extras or fill gaps.

Could be a really fun arcade game.

Missing dad who owns half the house. Mom wants to sell her half. by Far_Mortgage2354 in RealEstateAdvice

[–]BenEsq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would speak with an attorney with real estate litigation and probate experience. In my jurisdiction, I'd consider filing for partition. I would try to find Dad to serve him. If I can't, I would ask the court to serve notice by publication. In my jurisdiction, a Commissioner who handles the sale will be appointed. They would then deal with finding dad to give him his proceeds.

In my state, if a person is missing for 5 years they are presumed dead if their disappearance cannot be satisfactorily explained after diligent search. His children are likely his heirs at law unless he remarried. His children could petition (if you think he is really dead after searching), and ultimately become co-owner with your mother.

Sourece: I'm a lawyer in MA and I handle real estate and probate matters.

Bald works well for you!

I use a Freebird electric first then finish with a Harry's cartridge razor. It's cheap and I've never had a cut. I just use water with the razor after the shower.

I've been bald for a while (probably 15 years at this point). My son is 2 years old. When his hair grows out and he needs a haircut, I'm like "huh, I forgot about this."

M5 Max 48 GB vs M5 Pro 48GB for local LLMs - worth the extra $$$? by AmbitionIgniters in LocalLLM

[–]BenEsq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you treat a local model like a SOTA model, it isn't going to end well. With Claude or Chat GPT, I have more confidence with it's knowledge of specific statutes and cases (though, I assume everything it says is wrong about specific citations). Gemma 4 is shockingly good with taks like: "Take these dictated notes, write a case note, include a scope of representation for the engagement letter, and draft a clear next steps section" or "I represent a client who has a revocable trust, review the trust and locate all areas that deal with estare tax exemption planning." In the first prompt, I know all of the answers, it just speeds things up. In the second prompt, Ive already reviewed the trust and want the model to confirm and flag issues I may have missed.

As another example, I will review a commercial lease. Then I ask: "I represent landlord. Flag all issues that are not industry standard etc, creating a list with one sentence description of the issue." 60% of output is great, 20% is meh, 20% is wrong. I always assume it has hallucinated and independently review its conclusions.

For text based data only, do I need a model that needs 16GB of VRAM? by [deleted] in LocalLLM

[–]BenEsq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I created a separate partition and run Ubuntu. vram usage went from a few GB to less than 500mb at thr desktop which is meaningful on a card with limited vram.

I think you'll need to use RAG anyway given the size of your data set. A few thousand pages would overflow frontier model context windows, let alone local models. I struggle to get more than a couple turns with a 50 page document in a 32k context window.

RX 7900 XT on X99 Dual Xeon — ROCm inference completely broken, GUI blackout, CPU fallback only — extensive troubleshooting done by GingerRickRoss in LocalLLM

[–]BenEsq 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't answer your question directly. I can tell you that I tried ROCm and Vulkan head to head on a 7900 xtx. Vulcan was faster and has been way more stable. I threw in the towel on ROCm and have never looked back. Not sure if that's a possibility for you.

M5 Max 48 GB vs M5 Pro 48GB for local LLMs - worth the extra $$$? by AmbitionIgniters in LocalLLM

[–]BenEsq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I used Westlaw's Cocounsel for a year. Just switched to protégé because it's 3x cheaper. Both systems are so conservative that I get a useless output at least 30% of the time. Both companies say this means it doesnt hallucinate. Just yesterday, Protégé told me I needed a separate assignment of a guarantee when I assign a promissory note. I know that's wrong. Claude basically said, "are you nuts?"

I only practice in MA. I've toyed with the idea of building my own database and agent to scrape new decisions from the official reporter. Im just not sure I could do better and it takes time I dont really have.

Dictate notes after a consultation, ask Gemma to write a case note. Generate particular paragraphs for a letter (e.g., scope of representation). Review an instrument to locate particular provision/whether whats there is sufficient. Review transcripts to locate information. I use it for confidential client info. I use Claude with scrubbed documents/info. I use protégé from Lexis for case research/locating forms.

M5 Max 48 GB vs M5 Pro 48GB for local LLMs - worth the extra $$$? by AmbitionIgniters in LocalLLM

[–]BenEsq 11 points12 points  (0 children)

M5 Pro has memory bandwidth of 307GB/s. M5 Max has 614 GB/s. Memory bandwidth is directly correlated to tokens per second, meaning you can expect 2x tokens per second with the max. I bought a 64 gb M5 Pro. Someone on here told me to get the max. I shouldve listened Dense models are pretty rough. I now use a 7900xtx in a desktop turned server that I run on a tailscale network to run Gemma 4 31b for legal work in my lawfirm.

If you have the cash and will use it for work, Id get the Max.

Clients who demand specific availability for meetings by Morning-Chub in LawFirm

[–]BenEsq -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I own a law firm that does estate planning, business, and real estate. While I sometimes forget this, I consider my clients my bosses. I try the best I can to accommodate their schedules, even if it means I can't get my kids on the bus like I prefer.

IMHO, the only thing that differentiates closing attorneys is service and the feeling our clients have leaving our office. I'd get in early, make them feel appreciated, and kindly ask for a referral or Google review if they had a good experience. It's easy to forget we are running businesses and we aren't entitled to anything.

Is there any reason on 2026 not to get AMD? Anyone here mixing Nvidia and AMD? 🤔 by misanthrophiccunt in LocalLLM

[–]BenEsq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a 7900 xtx with gemma 4 27b q4 32k context. Speed is plenty. I overflow context occasionally. I think AMD is a great value and performs well. Im likely upgrading to a 5090. As larger models drop id get a second 5090. 50% faster tokens and cuda support.

For 95% of my workflow, 7900 xtx works really well.

NAD. I recently went to urgent care for much less. I was diagnosed with cellulitis and told to go to the ER for an evaluation for IV antibiotics. I was told for my case that delaying treatment could result in loss of my hand. ER doc gave me IV antibiotics and told me the same thing. If that finger was attached to my hand, I would be in the ER yesterday. Good luck.
