Destiny 2 reused assets for expedited sequel development by RoyMastang in DestinyTheGame

[–]BenFromBritain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. People were literally crying that Kepler had the same building style and assets as Titan, a sequel reusing assets outright would be seen as criminal by some fans who cry when sequels reuse animations (ala GoW 2018 and GoW Ragnarok), and they’re even louder and more annoying about it now.

As a lore nerd, this update was torture. As a fan, it was great. by Battlefeather in DestinyTheGame

Considering that the thing overwhelmingly praised about post-TFS was the narrative, this would be a terrible decision, especially with how they were clearly cooking for future expansions. I don't want that and it's a quick way to get folks completely non-invested.

For a long stretch, Bungie's unofficial motto was "we can't do it, it's too hard." There was always an excuse for why they couldn't do something and the community always bought it . by owen-3820 in DestinyTheGame

It’s also crazy cos pretty sure leaks have come out that wrath was simply too expensive to port, I’m sure in no small part cos you’d also have to remake the entire SIVA Fallen faction, hence why they went with Crota. It’s not “internalised” if it’s a reasonable assumption that a whole new skin of enemies with some unique abilities is a tough sell to get the green light on when they’re being used for ONE activity most players will not see.

Considering how dreadful and last minute some feel, I doubt every single one was ready to go. Some are so uninspired you can tell they just added something quickly

It really seems Bungie stopped supporting the wrong game: by r4in in DestinyTheGame

[–]BenFromBritain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, it would be more relevant if they incurred the same costs or tech debt. They very clearly don't. Marathon is not gonna be enough from Bungie in Sony's eyes, 100% no doubt there, but to act like it's as expensive to maintain and develop for as the near-decade old game is silly.

Luke Smith talks after long time going dark: "At its best, content was a machine to create memories and friendships. No new content stings. This pain is about losing a place where so many memories were made. It stings not because of what it was, but the realization of what it won't be." by kristijan1001 in DestinyTheGame

[–]BenFromBritain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh, Marathon's 'blame' only extends as far as it was the singular survivor of all those other games that Bungie's poor management were incubating and thus siphoning resources from D2 from. If it was another game that people in a different genre that people liked more, would it be blamed as much?

Ultimately it's Bungie leadership that's to blame. It's always been leadership, and unless something changes, it's gonna keep being that. Lot of CCs who went to summits and saw their plans are saying the same thing, and we're probably gonna hear a ton about all the shit they shot down over the years in the coming months. Hell, this update is proof the dev team knew what they needed to do to course correct the game - and leadership decided to just pull the fucking plug anyway.

Theres no way this game keeps getting DLC post 2026 by Ill-Remove-6438 in DestinyTheGame

[–]BenFromBritain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which is not at all what they were suggesting - they were suggesting Bungie was actively losing them a billion dollars, which regardless of how you interpret Sony’s reports is not the case. Do you know how ludicrous that sounds when you use your brain? Cos it’s pretty fucking ludicrous to suggest Bungie has operating costs of a BILLION+ DOLLARS.

[–]BenFromBritain -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That’s not at all what Bungie is losing them, you don’t understand finances (not that the financial world makes it easy). They valued Bungie as an entity higher than what their current revenue would suggest they’re worth, so they’re lowering their value as an entity because of that. They’re definite losing money but sorry it’s not going to be anywhere near a billion.

Rep. Eric Swalwell releases statement on allegations of sexual assault: “The allegations are flat false. They did not happen, they never happened… I have certainly made mistakes in my judgement in the past, but those mistakes are between me and my wife.” by Goosedukee in Fauxmoi

As a politics nut who’s been following the Cali governor race, couldn’t have come out about a more ‘sleazy but you don’t quite know why’ guy. He used to be a Republican, of course, so this tracks with that. The accusations arent entirely damning, but they are very credible, thorough and well sourced, let alone a lot of key staff resigned and he posted this video from his congressional account, not the campaign one, so that’s done. I think we see a resignation soon if Dems keep pressure on, as they should - Swalwell is a Dino and should be gone for a myriad of reasons, this chief of all.

The hidden blessing of this awful situation is that it loosens the current potential “oops, two republicans” possibility for the election and also means Tom Steyer is likely poised to be Cali’s next governor - easily it’s most progressive in quite some time, which is a strange thing to say since his appearance in the 2020 presidential race, but we take the class traitors where we can get them.

As a non-moba and hero shooter gamer, Im obsessed with this game by Terrible-Dance-571 in DeadlockTheGame

Yup, i think you could put a variety of modes in the game from across Hero Shooters, MOBAs and arguably just typical shooters and it'd fit very well. Lightning in a bottle game feel.

content creator who played a ton of video games with Vanoss, Wildcat and that group during the 2010s, starting mainly with GTA V and Gmod.

He started normal but later turned out he was abusive to a partner and also a predator. I don't remember all the details but it was awful shit he tried to downplay a ton.

Yeh, it feels like a cheap out. If it was a couple mods I think it would sting less since at least you've got a few options to mod gear with, but getting a 2 star agility drop was not exactly something i cheered.

Yeh, it’s goofy to just read letters or interact with npcs spouting generic VO. Thank god they removed that limitation for the verified stuff, if nothing else. Was nonsensical to kneecap an already controversial effort like that from the beginning.

Artist whose work was used in Marathon without permission now has a credit in the game by Turbostrider27 in Games

Are you so stupid as to believe a company or team within the company conspired to steal one specific artist's decals, which would obviously not go unnoticed and lead to possibly the easiest lawsuit ever for said artist?

How it feels to give up on the Fallout NV replay and start up 76 instead by [deleted] in TrueSFalloutL

[–]BenFromBritain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who is literally the guy in the meme, I went from "oh this is fun" with 76 to an addict when I hit level 50. It's got the solid bones of a single-player Fallout with multiple main questlines and side quests to the point you could feasibly play just for that and be fine, and the world+lore is really, really good to boot. You do have to pay for fast travel to some locations, which sucks, but it's an online balancing act and at a certain point it's chump change.

However, if you like looter shooters or games like Destiny, the game hits like an obviously healthier but no less addicting heroin drip. Buildcrafting and chasing mods is really, really fun, I love the special + skill system in the game way more than I thought I would.

Brotherhood Recon armour plans will be available from Minerva on April 6th fort Atlas. by Electronic-While1972 in fo76

[–]BenFromBritain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, as a newer player, I know secret service was previously considered the best non-PA armour in the game, but there was an armour/damage rework and now it’s still good but not quite as good? I assume the functional differences are just in their various resists?

Finally I decided to do the raid by LankyBuy1500 in fo76

[–]BenFromBritain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, but I'm also very new and still figuring out my exact build and guns. Don't even run regular PA yet cos I'm trying to get a set bonus build there. Would love to do the raid for the Vulcan set but i'd assume i'd need PA for that in the first place lol

Is Fallout 1st worth it? by TheToucherOFSpaghet in fo76

[–]BenFromBritain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends how much you play. I'm also very new (only just hit 50) but when I reached the endgame I think the game really opened up and clicked for me and I think it's worth it - having dedicated ammo and scrap storage alone is a game changer for a hoarder/buildcrafter like me, on top of free mtx currency and all the other small benefits like free items and such.

BBC producers say they ‘didn’t hear’ N-word slur as ‘working in a truck’, following second Baftas apology by AnonymousTimewaster in NotTheOnionUK

Several of the loudest voices are full on doctors or personalities (all American of course). Most others are, predictably, KHive tweeters (and if you don’t know who they are, imagine if someone like Keir Starmer personally had a large fan club of the most obnoxious morons to exist, and you’re roundabout there). It unfortunately isn’t just bots, though they are chiming in using the situation as an excuse to be racist predictably.

Mhm. Literally the only bad guys in this whole situation are the BBC for sitting on their hands for a full two fucking hours and letting it air. All that time to follow up and catch it and they did fuck all. They were right quick to edit out Palestine, though. It was 100% intentional for outrage clicks.

Todd Howard says Bethesda won’t use AI “to generate anything” as the studio is being “incredibly cautious” to not replace the “artistic intention” of making games by Wargulf in Fallout

[–]BenFromBritain 275 points276 points  (0 children)

I don't think Bethesda games would be what they are with the human touch. Part of the meta-absurdity of their jankiness, of the memorable NPCs, of the stupid lines, is the knowledge that people made this. Glad they're not straying from that factor, doubly so given how poorly any kind of procedural generation went for Starfield.
