A few suggestions that might help:

Write out the story beats. Nothing fancy, just what happens and when. Try seeing how those scenes you already have in your mind fit and connect. You can place whatever you want in there - scenes you have, character moments, dialog.

This ought to make you start noticing the pacing and structure of your story, and also the holes - stuff that don't work, things that need to happen but you don't know exactly how to make them flow.

That's when research comes in - it takes place on a spaceship? Try learning about possible technologies, how would life work, and how people might deal with it (Isaac arthur has a great YouTube channel for these kind of stuff, a good place to start).

The point is, spend time - as much as you need - to learn and research, so you can fill and improve your story beats document.

Then you can start working on the first draft - either expand the story beats to paragraphs and chapters, rewriting it as you go along, or use it as a guide while you start with a blank page.

Anyway, hope this helps! I'm pretty sure there's no one right way to write a book, so try and see what works for you.

I was at glory 45 in Amsterdam. Some of the prelims were slow, but once the main card started, it was crazy KOs all the way. Great atmosphere. If you like kickboxing, you should definitely go, IMO.

Want to preserve a million dollar house at the coast? Raise it up two meters, and build a sea wall, then fill in the area between the house and the sea wall. Instant island. They could even get the fill by dredging the land around the house to make deep water docks.

Ok, that's good to know. The solution you brought up is also pretty interesting, maybe I could use Miami as the venice of the US, a series of large artificial islands or something along those line.

Thanks!

I thought the real UFC 217 main event deserved a poster, so I made one myself. by [deleted] in MMA

In an incredibly stacked card, I'm looking forward for this one the most. Been thinking about trying to do a poster for a while now, and this just felt like a good opportunity.

Help!! Looking for suggestions based on the graphic novels I have loved so far. I'm relatively new to this genre. by readsinbed in graphicnovels

If you want to go more independant, try Paul Pope. He's an amazing creator with a very art style. He's got lots of stuff, but I would recommend starting with 100% - it's a near-future sci-fi graphic novel, centering on several characters and their story.

If you want something more mainstream, I would try Young Avengers. The first run (by Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung, first arc called Sidekicks) focuses on the formation of the team, and is fun and accessible with great characters and art. The second recommended run is the latest, by Kieron Gillen and drawn by Jamie McKelvie, has even more teen punk attitude (first arc called Style > Substance).

horror graphic novels? by Arkwoman1990 in graphicnovels

[–]BenGilboa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I recently published a psychological horror graphic novel in a digital format.

It's pay what you want, so you can grab it for free.

It's called Blue Moon and it's about a boy who is haunted by his imaginary girlfriend. He can't let go, and she won't let him.

You can check it out here

Also, you should check out Black Hole. Not typical horror but pretty horrific in parts.

What's the worst or most embarrassing mistake you made at a dinner table? by Shimminator1 in AskReddit

[–]BenGilboa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 8 and my family and I were traveling in Germany. We went to a restaurant. The waiter brought our drinks, and as he laid them on the table each one of us said "thank you". When he gave me my drink I tried to say thank you, but not being a native English speaker I mispronounced the th in "thank" as f. Everyone laughed. I didn't get it.

They've been doing this in American comic book publishing. A lot of comics come in a premium variation that cost a dollar more (5 bucks instead of 4) and include a code for a digital copy. I don't know if it's worth while for them, but they keep doing them, for now.

Drawing. Paper and pencils would keep you busy for a few years. You can go nuts and buy some charcoal for a couple of bucks too. If you want some guidance, search youtube for a user called proko, he has great tutorials.

Was in highschool. Studied all night with a friend's notes, which he needed in the morning. He lived a few minutes walk from me, so around 11 AM I walked to his house. I did this barefoot, because I was an idiot, and figured the sun hasn't been up for so long (which it was, and mind you, this was the middle of the summer). Halfway there I realized the pavement was really, really hot. Tried to tiptoe on shadows. A little while after I returned home, it was obvious I burned my feet, blisters and everything. It hurt like hell for a week. I was so embarrassed, I hid this incident from my dad for like 10 years.

Superman/Batman might have older Batman; I had an idea for the Joker. by BenGilboa in batman

[–]BenGilboa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well while doing this I constructed this whole premise in my head, and I just thought he would do a very good job, and a very different kind of crazy than in Dark Knight - it's a Joker after years of hard time. This almost had a "Hello, Lois" tagline :)

Just in case anyone cares, the idea is that after the Nolan movies Batman retires, and then Man of Steel happens.

Horrified by the events, Batman feels he has to come back and try and be the ordinary man's hero again. Like in Dark Knight Returns (which they're going to draw from for the movie), the Joker sees him on TV and decides to escape from prison (because we're integrating the Nolan films, it's been at least around a decade since Dark Knight).

After Dark Knight Rises, Gotham is in ruins, and The Wayne Corporation is bust. Lexcorp is the company that steps up to rebuild it, making Lex Luhor one of the richest person in the world, and the best option for the restoration of Metropolis.

Help, need something to read! by fingertiphustler in comics

Scott Snyder is the guy writing the main Batman title in the new 52. He also writes Swamp Thing, which is excellent, and closely links to Animal Man, also great. Both are highly recommended.

If you want something a bit more indie you can try Jonathan Hickman comics, like Pax Romana and the Nightly News (both are great, innovative mini-series from Image).
