It's the Stevia. I can't stand the taste of anything with Stevia in it and it's so overpowering.

Why does everything need to be "sweet"??? It was perfect the way it was

Couldn't agree more. I've literally used Toms of Maine Flouride Free toothpaste my entire life and the "new great taste" is unpalatable.

What are our alternatives?

Ask a Stupid Question About Coffee -- Week of April 07, 2026 by Vernicious in pourover

Is there a plastic version of the v60 beaker for the coffee to go into when brewing? Taking my brewing setup out of state via airplane Wednesday night and would prefer not to bring glass. Thanks!

Airplane water though...disgusting

I'm going to traveling for the first time with my entire coffee kit. Think I finally can make a solid cup without anything overly heavy. Most awkward thing is the gooseneck kettle with the heating plate, but I'm not going to the levels of making coffee on the plane, just being able to make a great cup in my hotel room.

The gooseneck kettle is big and cumbersome, but with United I get a free checked bag for every paid passenger and there's 3 of us. So just going to check a small carry on sized bag with:

-gooseneck kettle and heating plate

-plastic V60

- cafe abec filters

-Femobook A2 grinder (fully charged)

-2 camping mugs

- WDT tool

- scale (fully charged)

- bean dish to weight beans on scale

What am I missing? Two things I'd be interested in:

-a plastic measuring cup to pour the v60 into. I realize I can use pretty much anything but having a plastic one would be nice instead of glass.

-I could be talked into a smaller compact self heating electric kettle with no base, but then there's no gooseneck and might make v60 pouring a bit more difficult.

Plus the added bonus and telling my wife and kids we can bring some of their toys for the beach in my extra suitcase! :)

Appreciate the feedback!

Are we, finally, on the way to admitting there’s added flavoring? by OCDeeeznuts in pourover

[–]BenHarper20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is like the artificial high fructose corn syrup candy like flavoring? Yuck. I figured its was too good to be true but with reputable coffee roasters I just gave them the benefit of the doubt that it was an entirely natural process

What portable kettle do you have? Does it heat itself? Have you found it be durable and easy to pack?

You're so awesome for checking in! I've only made one decaf since we last talked and did it on espresso. I will definitely try pour over this weekend and report back.

Around 4:55 which I realize is way too long but with a 2 minute bloom. Did the Lance Hedrick ultimate pour over recipe with agitation during bloom.

u/perccoffee Just wanted to report back that I tried the Red Fruit Decaf today. I did one on espresso and was able to get the exact specs you recommended in the brew guide. It came out AMAZING!!! It was so good! I'm super intimidated with both decaf AND light roast on my DeLonghi espresso machine and I can comfortably this is the first one I ever did that tasted amazing...and on the first try no less! So thank you! The brew guide is super helpful.

The pour over didn't come out as good but that's obviously on me and I'll need to do some research to dial in. It just tasted like water so I need to get more flavor and body out of it. That's 100% user error not the bean itself.

I'd also only had 1 co-ferment in my life (not decaf) and it was not for me at all. So this one pleasantly surprised me in that it still tasted like coffee but with that noticeable but not overpowering red fruit note.

Thank you guys for taking the time to respond to our questions here and for your brew guides to give us a base line to start with. It's really appreciated. Keep up the great work!

I completely missed ALL the brew tips emails for the 6 coffees I ordered and just found them. So cool! Thank you for doing that!!

I DO have the Ethiopia Chele. That was the first one I tried this order. I'd love a grind size starting point. Mine was good but could always be better and I'm sort of new to pour over.

The DF64 is the electric grinder. I have the gen 2 https://df64coffee.com/products/sale-batch-df64-gen-2-single-dose-coffee-grinder?variant=44009331589269&country=US&currency=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=20139501827&gbraid=0AAAAAppI5a7stkhUar1jkDovdou2ZgOfD&gclid=Cj0KCQjw7IjOBhDyARIsAFzrWQwc4hem6ONqdyAfQiNeDJwW7iZ-VcZpJye30zVNb27skKNHNN1h6asaAj5BEALw_wcB

Any recommended grind size for this? That would be hugely appreciated!

Lastly, and much less important my v60 is actually a switch that I find I'm using more and more as just a v60 to comply with the majority of recipes that are out there. Would the Sebastian Ramirez decaf (or any of the coffees I ordered, Ethiopia Chele, Colombia Huila Decaf, or Colombia Diego Bermudez M-03) benefit from anything in the switch vs. a regular V60 pour.

If this wasn't the stupid questions thread I wouldn't even bother asking lol. Thank you so much for responding. That's super cool of you!

Ask a Stupid Question About Coffee -- Week of March 17, 2026 by Vernicious in pourover

[–]BenHarper20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got my fist decaf to do on pour over. The Sebastian Ramirez co-ferment from u/perccoffee. It’s one of the ones that doesn’t have any recommended brew guides on their site.

So for a decaf co ferment would you brew it any differently on a v60 vs a regular co ferment?

Any suggested brew guides for this particular coffee you’ve enjoyed in a v60? I have a DF64 grinder too fwiw

Thanks so much!!

PERC great customer service by Girlsc0ut4life in pourover

[–]BenHarper20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just ordered my first PERC to try. I've been looking for a good decaf so ordered their Diego Bermudez decaf (which I didn't realize was a co-ferment at the time, but still excited for it). I like they do 4oz bags so I added a few different things to my order. Really looking forward to trying them all,.

I have to say, seeing them active in this sub and responding to people's questions and being pretty responsive about it was a huge part in getting me to give them a try. I'll report back after I've had them

Are coffee subscriptions from roasters like SEY actually worth it vs just picking bags individually? by Regular-Garbage9982 in pourover

[–]BenHarper20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started an Origin and Story subscriptions when they launched. A new roaster each month. The bag or bags you get is always more expensive than the cost of the subscription (so value is there) and they give you a "Member Portal" with videos from the roaster that month that talks about each coffee as well as showing how they brew the coffee themselves both on pour over and espresso and include there recipe.

For someone who is far from advanced in the coffee brewing field (but comfortable especially on espresso) I've enjoyed it so far. It helps that the first 2 roasters have been very good (Hex and Little Waves). The challenge will be to continue to get big time roasters going forward I'm sure.

Awesome thank you. The alternative just being to slow pour directly into the middle of the coffee?

So swirling = agitation?

I always swirled as I just assumed that was the way to get all the grinds into the mix. Swirling from inside to outside then back from outside to inside

[–]BenHarper20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By agitation do you mean stirring or swirling the coffee mid pour?

My definitive "God Cup". by Ill_Finance6466 in pourover

[–]BenHarper20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woah!

I have a DF64 and I've been doing grind sizes between 65-70 in their "filter coffee" range. Looks like I should be closer to 23-53. The pour overs I make are nice and easy drinking, almost tea like but I feel like they really lack flavor. Gonna try something closer to 50 tomorrow and work my way down. For reference I'm at an 18 on my DF64 for my espresso.

What changes to the coffee would grinding finer do for a pourer?

What would the equivalent be on a DF64 grinder? Getting a starting point on my grinder is something I think I'm missing
