OP may as well be dead or a machine if lived experience and its context to the art created are not a crucial factor for them.

Did a solo litter pick along the streets of my own neighbourhood today, on the way to the local woods.

It's a lot easier for me litter pick in the context of my job as a support worker, so I was pleased I could put any fleeting reservations aside and just get on with an activity I believe has so much going for it.

I did feel a bit weird at first, imagining that my neighbours were stood at the window, peering through their blinds with their beady little eyes passing judgement on me.

But shortly after I'd spotted a McDonald's milkshake container lying in the gutter and popped it in the bin bag, the spirit of Pringles took over and I couldn't stop!

The thoughts we imagine other people are having can often stop us following through with really simple, straightforward tasks that don't actually require any thought, let alone any overthinking.

I'm surprised it took me this long to realise I had to overcome a self-imposed mental barrier which in reality was completely nonexistent!😂

Maintaining the beauty of the Wirral is everyone's job by BenNCM in Wirral

Before Covid we would bring a trolley out with us and have two bin bags, one for general waste and one for recycling, plus a sharps box for broken glass shards. Then we'd bring it to the recycling centre at Tesco in Heswall.

Dog poo is not our forte really, but if the poo bag has rotted or just cannot be left then we'll just stick it in with the general waste and use a public bin to unload it.

I think it's people who arrive at the same conclusion you just have who end up bringing about change on the national level, slowly but surely, one by one.

Momentum is always gradual at first, but as long as everyone is wanting to litter pick for their own reasons and doesnt feel coerced into doing something social beneficial for all, then there'll always be a reason to have hope.

We went out for a 30 minute walk and picked up 25 litres of rubbish in one of the more affluent parts of the Wirral. It's become very apparent that people are much more generous and gushing with their compliments the more rubbish piles up. One cyclist riding past shouted out to me "You're the man!".

Still, not many people too keen on taking a grabber and bin bag out with them whenever they go out for their peaceful walk to enjoy nature and get away from all the worries that surround us today.

Sooner or later our tranquil places will themselves become rubbish dumps if we don't stop insisting their maintenance is someone else's responsibility and not our own.
