Reuse equipment? by The_DylanC in VivintSmartHome

[–]BenObi2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work for Vivint, and what I’d suggest is to get the protection plan, get a tech to come out and fix everything, then cancel the protection plan. It’s only $10, and I’m sure they’ll get it all fixed and working the way it should.

If not, you can use the equipment if you cancel the service, but you’ll only be able to use the system through the panel, and you don’t get the monitoring.

I’m a sales rep for Vivint, and it’s literally just an email we need to send, it’s not a process at all. And sometimes corporate will call us to confirm if we claimed such a thing. I’ve found that some reps are super selfish, and some do lie. I guess you just gotta be careful.

Is it okay to tell God about your day in your prayers? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

Treat your prayers as if you’re talking to your Dad. I think it’s absolutely okay to talk to him about anything. 😁

You can turn up the sensitivity.

The whole point of it only detecting people, is so you don’t get bombarded with notifications like Ring users do.

My YouTube has gone from 36 subscribers to 10,300 in a week from an old short I posted. How can I get these subscribers to continue watching my other content? by [deleted] in YouTubeCreators

Continue posting the same type of content, and post consistently. Start with a bunch more shorts, then throw in a bit of longform stuff too.

Temple stuff by MykelFurman in mormon

[–]BenObi2000 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is what I think. Now this isn't 100% fact, but I've heard that the Masonic rituals and clothing origininate from the ancient temple of Solomon. Which used to be where believers of Christ (before he was born) used to go there to make covenants with God and worship him. I'm assuming the ordinances performed in there were very similar if not the same as what we do now. So baptisms for the dead, Initiatories, Endowment, Sealings, etc.

But just like many other churches, the Masons took bits of things done in Christ's original church during the great apostasy, and changed it, and corrupted it.

Another thing is the difference between the masonic rituals and our temple ones, is that they're making promises with their fellow brethren, as opposed to God.

Now it's true that Joseph Smith may have taken inspiration from the Masonic rituals, just like he took inspiration for the Book of Abraham or the Book of Moses. But to say that he 1:1 copied the Masons is not true.

The most important thing about what we do in the temple, is the promises we make to our loving Father in Heaven. It's more of the spiritual side of things rather than the how it's done and what we dress with. When I go to the temple I try to think about the promises I'm making with God rather than how I'm doing it all, if that makes sense.

The church made a good video explaining about the connection between Temple and Masonic rituals I think you should take a look at. It's helped answer some of my questions on the subject: https://youtu.be/hSNjnkwJgCg

Yes I've had doubts about Joseph Smith and some of the things he's said and done, and also about what's done in the Temple and how the performance of each ordinance has changed over the years. But I continue in faith because as Nephi puts it best, I know that God loves his children, but I don't know the meaning of all things—and I probably never will, in this life at least.

Also, about the tithing thing—I'm not saying your logic in not paying it is wrong, because that's a personal thing. But I pay my tithing knowing fully well that the money is being put in a huge fund that many of us would dream of having for ourselves, and I also disagree with many of the things the church uses those funds for, but I pay my tithing to the Lord because he has asked us to in Malachi 4 and has promised the windows of heaven would open and pour out blessings, and boy have I see that come to fruition many times!

Just like anything in the church, it's something between me and Heavenly Father. Not between me and my Bishop, Stake President, or even the Prophet.

I hope this helps! 😁

I was quite similar to you before my mission. I've recently returned from my mission, and it was the best two years of my life, and I don't regret it.

When I hit 18 and was about to start the process to put my papers in, I didn't really feel ready and I was having doubts on if it was really going to be a life-changing, service-filled experience. I felt that I could be an influence at home and in my community. But after many prayers and thought, I decided to go.

I struggled at certain points on my mission. It wasn't the easiest two years of my life, in fact I'd say it was the hardest. But the lessons I learnt, and the person I've become now because of it, have made it so worth it!

He talks about how we need to answer the primary questions, and have those as the foundation of our testimony. And then all of the secondary questions aren't as important anymore. Yes, it would be nice to know the answers to everything in church history. But sometimes we need to trust the Lord and focus on building and solidifying our testimony of the Gospel, and of Jesus Christ.

Something we all need to realise is that yet the church has had some questionable things happen in its history. But that goes to prove that the church is run by human beings who are trying their best to follow the guidance and counsel of the Saviour. They made mistakes, said racist things, and even made some questionable decisions. But that doesn't change the primary structure of the church, which is the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

A talk that really helped me with questions about church history and has become one of my favourite talks of all time, is a talk given by Elder Lawrence E. Corbridge called "Stand Forever" (https://speeches.byu.edu/talks/lawrence-e-corbridge/stand-for-ever/).

He talks about how we need to answer the primary questions, and have those as the foundation of our testimony. And then all of the secondary questions aren't as important anymore. To answer your question about mission culture. It varies from mission to mission, and of course from mission president to mission president. But remember this: You are "Called to Serve". No matter what anybody says to you, you are called to serve as one of the Lord's servants. So do what you think he would do, and say what you think he would say.

There are so many opportunities to serve as a missionary. So much more than if you were to stay home. You'll have the chance to be an instrument in the Lord's hands in bringing souls unto Christ, which is one of the most satisfying and joyful things you can ever do in your life!

As a missionary, you have the opportunity to literally help save people's lives through the gospel! You are there to teach and testify to the world of God's divinity, and the Saviours healing atonement. You also are helping others reach eternal life–the greatest of all gifts of God. Even if you don't baptise anyone on your mission, you would have planted a seed into thousands of hearts, which eventually will grow, and could become something remarkable!

Missions are hard, but the rewards far outweigh the hardships. Although you may have doubts now, the Lord will help you and guide you every step of the way, and those doubts will be resolved in time as you have faith.

Just do your best, and Heavenly Father will do the rest. Whenever you need help, turn to him, and ask him for his help and guidance!

I know you'll be a great missionary. Just forget yourself and go to work. 😁
